Rusty Pelican Restaurant
Had a wonderful meal celebrating our son's birthday. The food was delicious and the view was beautiful. The waitstaff was attentive but not overly so. My husband had mentioned it was our son's birthday when he made the reservation and the server brought him a dessert to celebrate without us having to remind her. We really appreciated that as many times it seems restaurants miss or ignore that. Our only complaint was the valet parking outside. We waited a looong time for our car, watching the valets run around trying to serve the long line of cars coming in and the long line of people waiting to leave. There's got to be a more efficient way to do it since the restaurant forces you to valet park.
Service was poor, either the waiter had too many tables to serve or just did not care and goes to all the tables he was serving in the patio.
I've eaten here hundreds of times over the years, and rarely do I ever have a complaint. But, this time, it took them three tries to cook my halibut right. They first time, it was overcooked, and the second time, it was raw.
Always a great experience at Rusty Pelican!! My favorite place to eat in Newport!! Service is always fabulous and the food....OMG!! DELICIOUS!!
Flagship Swordfish plate was excellent. Just enough spice and marinade not to overpower fresh fish.
My family loves the brunch at Rusty Pelican and the food is always great. The service is always great with a very helpful and friendly staff. The view is amazing and there’s great music upstairs to just sit and relax with a drink .
I DO NOT recommend. I made reservations for our anniversary dinner. We left 25 minutes after we were seated at a terrible table in a high traffic area that was jammed into an area that was already crowded. The restaurant was extremely loud. We left after waiting 25 minutes for a server to come take our drink order. We told the hostess we were leaving and she just stared. No customer service, No dining ambience, No service recovery.
Food service in the upstairs bar is very slow. The service staff is friendly and professional, but it’s pretty clear that Landry’s runs a lean operation in the bar at dinnertime.
Services was horrible, our food kept going to the table next to us, never got the garlic bread we ordered. Soup was served but with out a spoon, w eat it until the server finally got back. Crab tasted like it had been in the back of the freezer. And we paid with cash and the server took out the gratuity for two people but we didn’t notice until we got home, and we left a tip so since he took out the gratuity, we needed up tipping $60 not the $30 we planned on. Which is our fault for not checking, we were just ready to get out of there.
The food and service was excellent. We also enjoyed the view of the harbor. We had fish and vegetables for the main course with wine. The bread and shrimp appetizers were good as well as the desert.
Our 33rd wedding anniversary-excellent service. Seated right away and excellent view of bay.
Been a customer here for many years but hadn’t been in years due to living in Palm Springs now. Nothing has changed. Superb. Ryan, our server, was so nice and prompt. Bravo!
We celebrated my husband's birthday. He commented that it was a wonderful and relaxing dinner. I must agree. We sat on their outside patio with heaters with nice views of the bay and boats, we both enjoyed our fish entrees and dessert after. Our waiter was terrific as well. Thank you, Rusty Pelican for another great dining experience and for being our go-to place to celebrate important occasions.
This place was amazing! The staff was very friendly and did not care that we wanted to move from being outside (which we requested) to being inside.
The food was good, not outstanding. The wine was overpriced, service was subpar. Our server was trying her best but she had so many tables to wait and it was hard to get her attention that when the check was ready to be picked up it took almost 20 minutes.
Sunday brunch at Rusty Pelican was amazing. Fantastic food, wonderful service, great atmosphere!
Waitress was great at first until she ordered my dinner wrong. I sent it back and it took so long for it come out again. By the time I received my entree everyone had finished eating. She did not do anything about it besides apologized.
I told her just to put it in a to go box and that was it. Just Incase you’re wondering yes it was still on the check. Terrible!
Very disappointed this was a go to location in the past for our family, it took over a half hour to get a glass of water. It didn't appear that busy, would not recommend.
Some of the best calamari I've had in California! Also, the Halibut was excellent, tender and flavorful. The restaurant atmosphere has aged and could use a face life. Also, handicap ramps into restaurant would be helpful vs. walking around to the back.
Wonderful place to meet with friends! We got appetizers and they were all fantastic! We sat upstairs to see the marina it was great !
I had their lunch special:halibut in a piccata sauce with capers with shrimp on top. It was delicious!
Hostess asked us to wait at bar and never returned for us. We ended up eating at the bar. Wait staff was not attentive
View is outstanding, I came expecting some great seafood, went with the grilled fish...sadly the bloodline had to be removed by me and put in a pile. The fish itself was good. The service however was better.
Go to Rusty Pelican every time in Newport Beach. Good food & service. Never disappoints.
Food was great ! Will go again !! Our fish was excellent.
Terrible service! We were seated right away and completely ignored for 20 min until I got up and flagged down someone to get us a waiter. No apology from them - they were actually kind of rude and made excuses. Well I didn’t know you were my table, etc. it was ridiculous! They still took forever to get us our drinks and a simple glass of water. We were never offered a refill on our water when our glasses were empty. Food was ok.
Our service was amazing. Loved the views and peaceful atmosphere. It was nice that my children were treated so well.
Like always, great food, great view, great service, great company, who can ask for more❤️
Excellent food, excellent service, ambience phenomenal. Our server Spencer was extremely friendly and helpful and informative. Management very friendly and went the extra mile. Lovd sitting outside during the sunset, but absolutely hated the typical rude People that like to take selfie's and stand in front of people 5 feet from their table and carry on conversations as if they own the place. Just typical of cell phones ruining today society!! However, I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Amazing food and great service. Wonderful views of the bay.
Perfect dining experience! Food, amazing! Server (Spencer) outstanding! Ambience, fantastic!
Food was delicious, service was first rate and a great view.
Great service and food. Nice location
The Rusty Pelican is my company's go to place and whenever our President is out from Texas he requests coming to this restaurant. The prices are very reasonable compared to other Seafood Restaurants. Would recommend the Rusty Pelican to anyone.
It was my 🎂🎉, we arrived real early so went upstairs for a cocktail, then hostess came and got us and told us our table outside was ready early so our waitress Ashley was fantastic and didn’t bother us totally let us sit there and enjoy the scenery. She was the best any questions she was able too answer. Let them know I’ll be back and bringing friends from Australia 🇦🇺 in December. Without a doubt my favorite restaurant, I’ve never had a bad meal and I always ask what the server recommends. Thank you for a lovely dinner you really made it a memorable one and romantic night.
Dinner at Rusty Pelican was a great choice. The place was perfectly lit and the live band added to the experience. As for food, we ordered crab cakes and calamari for starters. Each were very good. I ordered the Firepot Swordfish which is absolutely to die for! I highly recommend this dish if you like a Cajun spice on a bed of buttered steam rice. We will definitely be returning to this place.
Altohugh we had reservation at the patio for a birthday celebration and arrived on time, they said 1 hr wait-time for patio sitting. We had to have a table inside, AC was not working , it was crazy hot. Slider meat was burnt, service was too slow. Nothing special for a birthday celebration! Overall, terrible dinner with high cost!!
Yes it was busy and we understood that. But when a large group of what looked like more important people came in, I felt we were an after thought. Our waiter was terrible. Other tables that came in after us had water and bread before our drink order. The larger table had drinks and appetizers before our order was taken. Food was good, but not seasoned. Checked were separate and when we informed the waiter, I feel like it was all down hill from there. When we paid, my check and my friends check were mixed. We just paid it. We had waited so long, we just wanted to get out of there. We were seated at around 8 and left around 10. Not by our choice mind you. Most of our time was waiting. It was incredibly disappointing. The restaurant was beautiful and this was my sisters bachelorette party dinner. This was the kick off of all the festivities and this was our last night in Newport. We were headed back to Phoenix the next morning. It was very bland.
