Exceptional, from the quality of food and wonderful service. I would go here again and recommend it to friends.
Nice place for brunch. Good food.
We started off with cocktails and I had the Pistols and Petticoats and it was the best drink ever. We shared a wedge salad which was good. My husband had the Steak Frites which had a big juicy steak and great french fries. I had the Lobster Pappardelle and it was delicious. It was my birthday so the waitress brought out light and tasty cream puffs. The service was great too. The waitress was always there when you needed her and very pleasant. It's one of my new favorite restaurants.
Very good food and our waiter Mike was fabulous.
Both of us had fantastic meals. P had scallops and I had the double pork chop. Nice presentation, cooked to perfection. Wish we lived here... would return often!
The Rustic Root was definitely a surprise to me! I had heard about it from a friend and was expecting it to be an loud and perhaps overly-trendy place. Much to our delight, our service was TERRIFIC and we didn't feel like we were out of place or uncomfortable for being a little older than the usual SD Restaurant crowd! In fact, we had the finest server ever. He was relaxed, personable and really took the time to talk to us about the menu and our food choices. Many employees came by to just check on our meals, clear our plates and generally just make sure that we were having a GREAT TIME.
Besides the super service, our food was delicious. We ordered a few appetizers, a salad and shared the pasta dish and everything was savory and left us wanting to come back and try more items on the menu.
This was a great experience and pretty reasonable considering the location and the holiday season. We will definitely visit Rustic Root again!
Food was amazing , drinks were very good and service people were amazing as well
Always a great time and outstanding food at Rustic Root! Will be back!
We came from Los Angeles to celebrate Thanksgiving a bit differently this time. We chose Rustic Root out of a long list of restaurants that served Thanksgiving dinners all over town.
For appetizers we had the Cheese sticks, Kale Salad and Portbelly, which were very good.
We ordered he Prime Rib plate, The Turkey Roullade, and Mac n Cheese for our 12 year old son.
The prime rib was very good, the Turkey in the Turkey Roullade was too salty, but the sides were very good. Our son loved the Mac and Cheese.
The deserts were excellent.
Overall, we were satisfied, but felt that it was a bit over priced for the quality and the size of the plates.
Great atmosphere and rooftop vibes
Mark the waitress was amazing 👌he was very friendly and a happy person with an amazing attitude 😍
Great food. Took a long time for our server to get to us. We flagged someone down and then our server came apologetic. Paid for a drink for us. Service was excellent from there.
The service was great. The wine list was reasonably priced and a great selection. A few of the dishes were not what I would’ve expected.. But that doesn’t mean that others may not love them.
Amazing food and absolutely amazing service
We had a great evening here. We requested to be seated on the rooftop, and although the menu was a bit limited compared to the rest of the restaurant, we found there were plenty of choices. We both got the spicy fried chicken sandwich and loved it. And our cocktails were perfect: prickly pear margarita for one of us, and a pear/ginger cocktail for the other. Happy hour deals were excellent, and the regular prices were also quite reasonable. We would definitely come here again!
Greta food and atmosphere. Friend did it like the chimichurry short rib. 🤷🏻♀️
The service was friendly, helpful, and adept. My server was attentive without making me feel like I was being rushed. The food arrived hot and was presented beautifully. I got the scallops with risotto. Both were prepared perfectly, and the flavorings were excellent. My server recommended the peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake for dessert, and it was fantastic. Although I was dining alone, I was given a great table and was made very welcome. I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in San Diego.
Great vibe, wonderful staff and service. Service from the hostesses could have been a little more attentive we stood there awkwardly and they didn’t really greet us till after a couple minutes. Food was adequate but did not feel worth the price in terms of taste, quality, and portion.
Food was wonderful, but it is too loud in there to have a conversation.
Fun place with great food. Love the open air concept. Will return!
Wow! So glad I tried this restaurant. Came with a party of 4 for dinner after a day at a conference. Every dish was superb, and licked clean, especially the seafood. Dishes we tried included the firecracker shrimp, calamari, hummus, scallops, halibut, and lobster pasta dish. Highly recommend.
Fun menu, quick service. Great rooftop bar with views of the Gaslamp district.
Cool place. Food was yummy. We had the firecracker shrimp - delicious, and the Lobster peppered Elle- out of this world. Service was attentive and quickly (without irritation) split checks for a girls night out. Will be back.
Nice restaurant. Modest but tasty menu. Great location.
Anniversary and fashion show
We had brunch and every dish we ordered was delicious! Would go here again the next time I am in the Gaslamp District.
Love love love this place! The interior design and the service in the restaurant made me feel at home. Everyone was very nice to us. By accident someone took away one of our starters that we didn't finish yet, so they apologized and brought us a brand new one. Very professional. The food is great! If you're with a big group of people you don't have to worry about someone not being able to find an entree that they like as they offer many different options to suit different taste buds. We'll definitely recommend this place to people visiting San Diego!
Wide open room , comfortable seating. Energetic vibe! Food was delicious! Lobster pappardelle pasta, wedge salad and excellent well-priced wine.
Excellent food and ambiance! Booked brunch before 10 am and received a free bottle of French sparkling wine! Wine was better than I expected to be a giveaway! Will be back!
I had the Prickly Pear Margarita and it was delicious! Our meals were great too. Highly recommend!!
We were in a bit of a rush to head to another event and our server was great and efficient in managing our time. We split four dishes. Our appetizer was the meatballs which were a great starter with the rich whiskey cream sauce and not dry. The wild boar bolognese was tasteless and had no flavor whatsoever, I would not recommend it. Additionally we got the side of asparagus, which isn't very large but well cooked. The shining star was the peanut butter chocolate cheesecake, which was decadent and perfect to end a meal. If you are a peanut butter chocolate fan, this dessert is for you!
Very active restaurant. Easy to talk with neighboring tables. Wine was excellent. Food was very good. Wait staff was fairly good, but did not keep up with filling water glasses.
Upstairs bar personnel were not very welcoming.
Service an Food was amazing!!!! We were alittle late but wasn’t an issue
Great time and food!
There was nothing really special about this place. The location is convenient and sitting outdoors is very nice. The service is friendly but inattentive and difficult to get to the table to get the job done.
The food and atmosphere was terrific!! The food was served rather quickly; a nice surprise considering the number of people there. Our waitress was very friendly, prompt to take our order, checked back immediately after the food was served, checked back about 5 min. later, and then it had to have been over an hour before we saw her again. We had to ask two different staff members to please send our waitress to our table. Coffee and dessert were served promptly as well, then we had to wait a long while again for the check. Even so, the outstanding food made up for it. I had the bison meatballs (fabulous!!) and creamed spinach (probably the best I've ever had). My table mate had the wild boar bolognese and mac & cheese. He loved love both. I can attest to the scrumptousness of the mac & cheese. The dessert was some peanut butter/chocolate concoction that was deliciously decadent. The decaf coffee was very good, but not hot. If I'm ever back in San Diego, Rustic Root will be where I eat the first night's dinner!
This is a great place for date night if you want to splurge! The food was great, service was fast and friendly, and the drinks were delicious. Thank you to or server (Chris, I believe?) for your kindness and attentiveness. I would recommend Rustic Root to my friends and family!
First time visit to this area/restaurant for a business conference. The food was very good with a nice presentation. I had a great outside table where I could spend my time during dinner people watching. :-)
However, what made this experience nice for me was the fabulous customer service provided to me by my waiter. He was very attentive, but not overbearing. He was friendly and personable and made me feel welcome at the establishment. I would definitely return to this establishment if in the area again.
