We were in a bit of a rush to head to another event and our server was great and efficient in managing our time. We split four dishes. Our appetizer was the meatballs which were a great starter with the rich whiskey cream sauce and not dry. The wild boar bolognese was tasteless and had no flavor whatsoever, I would not recommend it. Additionally we got the side of asparagus, which isn't very large but well cooked. The shining star was the peanut butter chocolate cheesecake, which was decadent and perfect to end a meal. If you are a peanut butter chocolate fan, this dessert is for you!

Very active restaurant. Easy to talk with neighboring tables. Wine was excellent. Food was very good. Wait staff was fairly good, but did not keep up with filling water glasses.

Upstairs bar personnel were not very welcoming.

There was nothing really special about this place. The location is convenient and sitting outdoors is very nice. The service is friendly but inattentive and difficult to get to the table to get the job done.

The food and atmosphere was terrific!! The food was served rather quickly; a nice surprise considering the number of people there. Our waitress was very friendly, prompt to take our order, checked back immediately after the food was served, checked back about 5 min. later, and then it had to have been over an hour before we saw her again. We had to ask two different staff members to please send our waitress to our table. Coffee and dessert were served promptly as well, then we had to wait a long while again for the check. Even so, the outstanding food made up for it. I had the bison meatballs (fabulous!!) and creamed spinach (probably the best I've ever had). My table mate had the wild boar bolognese and mac & cheese. He loved love both. I can attest to the scrumptousness of the mac & cheese. The dessert was some peanut butter/chocolate concoction that was deliciously decadent. The decaf coffee was very good, but not hot. If I'm ever back in San Diego, Rustic Root will be where I eat the first night's dinner!

This is a great place for date night if you want to splurge! The food was great, service was fast and friendly, and the drinks were delicious. Thank you to or server (Chris, I believe?) for your kindness and attentiveness. I would recommend Rustic Root to my friends and family!

First time visit to this area/restaurant for a business conference. The food was very good with a nice presentation. I had a great outside table where I could spend my time during dinner people watching. :-)
However, what made this experience nice for me was the fabulous customer service provided to me by my waiter. He was very attentive, but not overbearing. He was friendly and personable and made me feel welcome at the establishment. I would definitely return to this establishment if in the area again.

Wow! So it was restaurant week, but I'd forgotten. They had wonderful options on both menus. We chose from both--restaurant week specials, and the standard menu.

We started with tasty, well-made cocktails then moved to the appetizers. The firecracker shrimp were quite good, but the rabbit pastries from restaurant week stole the show. We enjoyed the lamb shank and the braised ribs. The lamb was served in a skillet-type setting along with wilted greens of some variety, a mashed potato, and fava beans--the flavors came together gloriously. The ribs were served on a fried polenta cake sitting in pureed carrots, most amazing!

We ended this mammoth meal with a peanut butter cheesecake. This meal won the vacay. I'd had several good meals in San Diego--this meal was phenomenal. Highly recommend.

From the moment we were seated in these beautiful leather chairs I knew it was gonna be a good night.
The food was beautiful and tasted like nothing else!
The wine pairing was something of magic.
We went upstairs for some after drinks and the view along with the atmosphere was great! Service throughout was spectacular. Best night

The food is a bit overrated honestly, no wow factor. We've heard the rooftop patio is awesome; however, we didn't make it up there. Don't rule Rustic Root out, the location is great and the food is good.

We got there for breakfast at 1:00 p.m. it is great that they serve their full menu breakfast until 3:00 p.m.
I had the chorizo scramble and my husband opted for the breakfast sandwich.
The chorizo scramble was good...needed some salt. The breakfast potatoes were pretty good. The drinks were good as well. They have peach, pineapple, orange mimosas. The pineapple is the best.

Overall vibe was good. Probably should have sat up top on the roof for better experience. Only reason chose downstairs was for wider menu selection. Seems like food service was not on point. Food arrived semi cold and was average. Ordered avocado toast, nutter butter French toast and eggs Benedict. Latte was good but sangria could have been better as it was mostly ice and water. Server was great though.

Food was good. I got the fried Cornish hen which was tasty but could have used some seasoning. My wife got the halibut which was ok. Nothing extraordinary. The noise level was ok but we were sat near a large party which started to get kind of loud. A nice place but I think it's kind of hit or miss.

Went to Rustic Roots early (6PM) so it was relatively quiet, but got louder as the evening went on. They also have rooftop dining with its own bar and music so that's a fun option. The food we had was excellent. We had the beet salad with Burrata cheese and the meatballs for appetizers; both tasty and delicious. I had the double pork chop, which was a bit dry and my husband had the lobster pappardelle which he loved. We will definitely go back.

Wonderful place in the heart of Gaslamp District. My mom and I went during a recent vacation, and we were seated on the ground level (as I am under 21) and the ambiance was wonderful. I really enjoyed people watching, since the front wall is open to the street that, at nighttime, is bustling with people. I had a wonderful salad and amazing salmon dish. While somewhat expensive, I think the price is fair for the ambiance, quality and service. Will return in the future!

All of the staff here was friendly and professional. We ordered the strawberry salad which was fresh and had just the right amount of dressing. We also ordered the lobster pappardelle. The pasta was fresh. There was a good amount of lobster in an amazing creamy and a little spicy sauce.

I loved my brunch experience as well as my girlfriend did. The staff was fast, the drinks were strong, and the food was good. Only thing that was a very small issue was the noise level from the street during the 9AM to 10AM time frame on a Saturday morning. Again this is not the restaurants problem, it's simply a thing that happens at that time. So if you need quite time will eating ask to be seated away from the street. They have a great syrup! Get the pancakes!

The host wasn’t the best when checking in for my reservation. However, our waiter Chanel and the food made up for it. They have a platter for mimosas that is amazing! We ordered the chilaquiles rojo and substituted the carnitas for chicken, and it was delicious. The avocado toast is a great appetizer.
Will definitely visit again!

Rustic Root was a great place for brunch in the heart of Gaslamp. I enjoyed the ambience, with the interesting decor and the live music in the background. The food was interesting and the drink menu was extensive. The only thing I didn't like was that the food was a little bit too salty for me.

Don’t know what to say about this place except the dinner may have been one of the best restaurant experiences ever. First of all, the location of the place is great. Gaslamp quarter is awesome. The restaurant itself has a cool dark vibe but is also very open to the outside. The waiter was knowledgeable and extremely engaging. Never too much though. Just right. The food was special. Expertly prepared and creative but not over the top.

Really a special evening all around. And we didn’t even go to the rooftop!

Service was very slow. For a small property with limited tables to turn;they seemed to not care far you were there or . I will say the food was above average but in the end as a customer service industry with none to proved, that doesn’t bode well with me as there’s are many other culinary delicacy’s to have then your brand with bad service.
