Rustic Root Ratings and Reviews
I had heard mixed reviews, but have been wanting to try Rustic Root. Service was top notch and food was amazing. I had the special Chilean Sea Bass which was highly recommended by our server. My date had scallops. This dishes exceeded all expectations. We will be back. The ambiance was unique but perfect. Rustic Root is a must try.
The environment and look of the restaurant was unique and inviting. I loved the interior decor but the service was just average. I went based off a recommendation & the positive reviews. However, it wasn’t an experience where I could say the service stood out to me enough to want to come back. This was my first time ever coming in to dine here with my fiancé and we both loved the food. The cocktails were also very good and we loved the wine list. Our server took extremely long to follow up with us and I had ordered a second glass of wine and he took extremely long to bring that second glass. We had already had our plates picked up and finished our meals and still had no sign of our server or my second glass of wine. For the price and the reviews given I just expected more out of our service. Overall there were positives and negatives, so I’m 50/50 about it.
Everything was fine. I ate the deer. It honestly tasted like my mom's pot roast so I was pretty bored. I'm a cheap date though so it's probably just me. I'd rather have a double cheeseburger and some good fries. My girlfriend seemed to like the shrimp pasta. Nice restaurant for a date.
stumbled on this place almost by accident....had been looking for slightly different menu choices and a decent bar list...and we scored a bullseye. I had the rabbit (excellent) and my colleague had the Wild Boar Bolognese (almost excellent)... great bottle of wine (@ 1/2 price); great service from the wait staff. so no prob recommending this establishment. upstairs is a rooftop bar which is almost pretty cool and looked to be a hip hangout for locals and tourists alike (we were on 5th ave after all)
First time to Rustic Root and was very impressed. The fish special was awesome as were the other meals people with us had. Reasonably priced drinks, delicious fresh food. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back! The only drawback would be parking can be challenging in the Gas Lamp but it was worth hunting for a parking space on a busy Saturday!
The table service was atrocious. Baffling, given all the other good things about this place. We were seated for 30 minutes, literally, with no server coming by at all to take our order. Finally we flagged down another server who took our order, and when our original waiter came back with the food there was no acknowledgement or apology.
The food was great. I had chilaquiles, which was delicious. The coffee was very good. Decor is great. We sat downstairs to have the full menu, since the rooftop menu is limited.
The hostess who seated us was very nice and gracious.
Went for a birthday and the bonus was restaurant week menu. Food was excellent. The restaurant was very loud so conversation was difficult. 1 dessert came out before the other 3, and we waited over 20 minutes for the other 3 desserts. Server was polite, but it took too long for dessert and our check. Overall it was a nice evening, and a fun place for people watching.
As always, food was terrific and serving portions were more than adequate. Service, however was painfully slow and while the manager asked us how things were about five minutes after we sat down we never saw him again. We were going to have another round of drinks but gave up and went across the street when our waitresss disappeared on us for over ten minutes.
First time lunch here with my wife. I had the burger with egg and fries and my wife had the lobster roll which she really liked. Price was reasonable, especially for being in downtown are. Fries were really good, not too garlic-y but just enough w/pamasean. We will be back.
I sent two friends form out of town for her birthday. The hostess said there were sooooo many so many reservations. They said it was very weird. They also said they did not bring waters to the table. I am extremely disappointed in the service provided for our friends while we had a funeral.
Disappointing overall. The upstairs bar was nice. The décor downstairs was nice. Party of 10 downstairs, we couldn't hear each other talk. Had a pushy waitress trying to get us to order more than we wanted, pushing her favorite dishes. The plating was inconsistent. Some dishes had the sauce, some didn't. Messy plates. Meat wasn't cooked to what was ordered. Not the appropriate restaurant for a business dinner.
We went there for my son's 21st bday dinner n drinks! Chris was our waiter and he was the best! The crab cigar appetizer was delicious as well as the shrimp fire sticks. Our family of 5 each ordered something different and enjoyed each dish. The salmon, sea scallops, braised rabbit, and blackened ahi were yummy, but the lobster parpadelle w a cream sherry sauce was to die for! For dessert we tried the butter cake and creme brûlée chocolate cheesecake, both delicious. After dinner we made our way up to the rooftop bar for some Moscow Mules! It was a great evening thanks to waiter Chris! :)
Great atmosphere and service! The meatballs were recommended and were a perfect start to our meal! We ordered several items to try between 3 of us - the special spare ribs and tuna were nicely prepared, very tasty and great presentation! Finish off with the creame brûlée cheesecake!!
Would definitely return!
This is a good place to go to if you want a medium-priced (for San Diego's Gas Lamp Quarter) dinner and you enjoy shouting so that your friends can hear what you are saying. The stuffed pepper appetizers were really good, the rabbit ($26) was dry, and venison ($28), though tasty, was also on the dry side. Drinks generally appeared some time after the food did, which is unfortunate when the food is dry.
Hostess was unprofessional. She had a group of about 10 standing outside so I patently waited behind them to be seated. She looked upset and took about 15minutes to seat them. After she sat them I said I walked up to her and said had a reservation and she told me that why I haven’t I walked in and why did I wait. My reservation didn’t matter and that it was open seating.
They called me 3 times to confirm my New Year’s Eve reservation and to ask for a credit card number to hold the reservation—but never mentioned the mandatory fixed-price menu for $125 per person. When we arrived on New Year’s Eve, we were notified of the high fee and limited menu, and it was too late to go somewhere else—we were forced to pay the $500 fee (not including drinks) for the 4 of us. They absolutely should have told us about the $125 mandatory fee ahead of time—especially since they called to speak to me 3 times.
We just had apps. The Firecracker Shrimp comes with a great sriracha aoli and light sweet & sour sauce. Also had the Mac n cheese. Too much bacon. The crab cigars are good in thought, tough to concur.
Great ambience and decor. Service was on top of it for everyone!
