Excellent restaurant in the Gaslamp district! The food was great and our waiter was friendly and attentive. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place.
We had brunch reservations for my friends bachelorette party and could not have been happier! Our server was just lovely, the Mamosa tree was amazing and I nearly fell off my chair the crabcake Benedict was so good! :-)
Our server was great, told us about the specials and even credited our bill for food they took back. Everything came out perfectly and we moved our good time to the rooftop bar for even more fun.
For the price I expected a little more. The steak I had was great but the calamari and the Mac and Cheese and broccolini was ok. Atomoshere and service were good. Nice ambiance.
Crowded, we started on the top floor open area where i was ushered out of a “private party” where I was standing for just a moment to get to the other side of the restaurant. Just rude considering I’m 55, and all of 120 pounds, blonde female dressed very nicely. How i was a threat is beyond me. I’m used to being treated with more respect. We went downstairs to be seated for dinner. Btw, I picked this restaurant because it was mentioned in a magazine and the menu looked promising. So, we get seated in the back of the restaurant, my husband and I, amongst three large party’s. We sat there for 30 minutes with wait staff, at least six of them, never once looking at us in the eye, acknowledging us, giving us even water. We got up and left the restaurant and Uber’d to The Top of the Market where we were welcomed and treated with respect. We were so glad to be out of the loud negative energy that they call an up and coming restaurant. I think they have a good idea, but the decor lacks in providing any loud noise prevention. Oversized metal colanders hung upside down:/. The wait staff need a lot more training or at the least more of them. I never did get to try the food. If I could give this restaurant less than poor I would. This is my first bad review I ever given.
Camila the waiter is the best ask for her great service
Food was great! We got the meatballs and shrimp to start and then scallops and short rib for our meals! Clint was attentive! My only complaint would be that the beer was super warm! Everything else was amazing!
Service was great! Ambiance was great if you're looking for a fun and lively place to dine. Hostess was very accommodating, as we added two people to our reservation only a few days prior. We loved the booth setup. Great for dinner conversation because everyone could hear each other. Food was average. My husband had the pasta special which was not flavorful, and I had the short ribs which were OK. We both liked our meals, but we've had better. Overall, a decent meal and a great time!
Great staff and foos was awesome!
Our server Kyle was great! One of my friend’s frenchtoast was too soggy, but he took care of it no problem!
The restaurant was very warm and stuffy when we arrived at 8:45 PM. It wasn’t until about 45 minutes later that we felt any airflow kick in. The food was delicious and our server was very nice and helpful re: night life recommendations, although the service was slow. Very cool atmosphere/decor and awesome chocolate peanut butter cheesecake!
This is my second trip to the Rustic Root. I enjoyed my experience there both time and the food is wonderful. Definitely a must stop in the Gas Light District of old San Diego.
We had a 7:45 reservation. It took until about 8:00 for someone to come over to our table. Our waiter was very apologetic and ultimately gave us a free dessert and $10 off of our bill. The accountability was superior and the food was very good.
I thought the food and served were wonderful. I found the hostesses unorganized and unprofessional.
From being seated in the cutest table!!
Our server gave us his opinion of his favorite entrees and we listened
Had the short ribs and my husband the lobster both were fabulous!
We loved the decor and went upstairs to the rooftop very cool bar!!
Awesome atmosphere amazing food
Food was delicious
Good food and nice ambiance. We met friends there and had a nice dinner then went upstairs to the rooftop for an after dinner drink.
Great atmosphere, great food & cocktails, great service! Would absolutely recommend it!!!
Wonderful good, am a can't be missed berries and bubbly tray!
Food and service were outstanding. The cigar smoke from next door was highly annoying until we got somebody to close the door. We were about to walk out.
PS - scallops were perfectly cooked.
This is our favorite dining spot in San Diego. Never disappoints! Thanks again RR!
Rich and spicy food, a little pricier than comparable restaurants, funky decorations (the fake goat/sheep/cow heads were a little creepy... Good live music too.
Fantastic service, octopus, shrimp and calamari were incredible. Please order the braised ribs, you will not be sorry. Yvette was extremely professional and efficient!
This is the 3rd time there, great food, fantastic service, comfortable seating and an awesome location.
Food was amazing!!
An awesome experience. The food was amazing and the music that they played was really good. I definitely will be dining there again
Very good food, very good service. Was a bit loud but that's just people having a good time so didn't mind it.
Wonderful time!!! Incredible service!!! Awesome ambiance, food and drinks!
It was a very beautiful atmosphere, we were visiting from out of state. Food was DELICIOUS! The service was a little slow, but nothing too terrible!
Service , food & atmosphere all fabulous along with the location!
Amazing preparations, quality, portions and creativity. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend...can’t be bad if it is relatively crowded in Sunday night!
Well this place was all around disappointing. First off, it must have taken 15 minutes before our server said anything more than "ill be right with you" to us. Once he finally arrived to take our drink orders, I decided to make a last second switch of my beverage choice because I was informed that an old fashioned would be poured over ice chips rather than a single large icecube(not a big deal but I would prefer to have another beverage if that is the case). As I was asking for recommendations for whisky cocktails(this whole process only took seconds) I could see and hear my server tapping his pen impatiently(also mind that I had been waiting 15 mins to talk to him). That was just rude. The drinks were bland and overly sweetened, I could barely finish mine without my mouth drying out from the amount of sugar. When our appetizer(some sort of savory duck pie) arrived it was cold, so not to give up on them yet, I asked for it to be sent back to the kitchen and returned hot. It was returned luke warm so I asked them to just remove it from the table and my bill, which they did. I also ordered the venison special and their side of mushrooms. Both were hot. That is about all I can say for those dishes. Both were a bit over salted. My date and I finished about 1/3 of each before boxing it up and giving it to a homeless man. This place was a serious waste of money and time. After conversing about it with my girlfriend, we both agreed it was one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. Mind you both of us have over 10 years experience in both the casual and fine dining industry. The atmosphere was nice, but that was the only positive about that place. I have no idea how this place is rated so high. If you want to try something new I would suggest trying another restaurant.
I loved this place, dinner was great,
Excellent service 😉
I simply can not say enough about customer service, kindness of the ENTIRE Rustic Root staff during my visit on Saturday, Feb 09. From a wonderful and understanding hostess to great waiter Evan to GM Nathan Doney - 5* service and excellent experience! Thank you all SO VERY much for making the episode with my 6yo son "no big deal"! :) Sincerely, E.Amos, San Antonio, TX
Restaurant was all abuzz with lots of patrons and appeared to be a local hangout as well as a place for convention attendees. Did was well presented and although the size of the same fish deviated from one table to the next, it was a good value. Service was excellent!
Brunch was spectacular and the Bubbles & Berries Tray is a must!
Increíble ambiente y comida muy rica
Great brunch, drinks are a bit steep on price but a fun place with friends with good food.
