Russian Vodka Room
Russian Vodka Room invites guests to spend time with friends while savoring quality vodka and Russian delicacies. Decorated with wooden furniture, artwork and chandeliers, the restaurant creates an ambience of a traditional Russian home.
Its menu features caviar, borscht, duck liver pate, meat dumplings and other appetizers, as well as herring under a fur coat, a typical layered salad. Russian Vodka Room’s patrons can dine on main entrées such as beef stroganoff with kasha, a type of porridge, roast duck with apples, prunes and apricots or breaded and pan-seared sea bass. Farmer’s cheese pancakes with chocolate and other desserts are on the menu, as well. As its name implies, Russian Vodka Room serves a wide selection of vodkas and infusions that range from raspberry and cranberry to ginger and garlic pepper and dill vodka. Visitors can also enjoy live piano and jazz concerts.
I like the place, it agrees with me. Unpretentious, good location, food is ok, not overpriced. Their vodka selections are good. And, there is very nice live piano - what’s not to like?!
Great time was had by all, delightful appetizers and delicious vodka infusions
Best Russian food and vodka in midtown!
Nice Russian restaurant with a very extensive Vodka menu. The main dining room was booked by a large party, so hard to say what the usual ambiance is. Me and my friends had a great time at a table by the bar though.
Music was a little loud but overall a really great dining experience.
I’ve been there in number of times. Not pretentious, good food fir the money. Conveniently located in theatre district. Like their vodkas - pomegranate, grapefruit. Not too sweet. Recommend.
Never had Russian food before. Very interesting!
I have loved the RVR for years. The food is great and I feel like I’ve gone back to the days of the KGB. It gets very crowded by the bar and male heavy but if you go early and find a table you can spend hours sipping delicious vodka and ordering delightful appetizers. The pate and pelmeni dumplings are amazing.
Our waitress had trouble explaining what the food on the menu was. After ordering, we decided to change one of our items. Long story short, we didn’t get what we ordered and according to our waitress, it was too late to fix it. So one of us in the group basically didn’t eat because she didn’t like what was given to her. The other 2 BOTH found a hair in their food, so they didn’t eat either. I ordered an appetizer as an entree but received it as an appetizer, so I basically ate before everyone else and sat there watching the others try to eat. We were soooo disappointed by the food and service. We definitely will not be eating there again! One good thing is they have awesome vodka so if you want a good drink, you will like the vodka!
Before it was much better, sorry would not recommend it. Service is poor, food just ok
Awesome place, simple but amazing menu, all of the traditional dishes and the best Пельмени besides mama Elena’s
Amazing food and staff both, with quick service and excellent Moscow mules.
Great value for pre theatre meal. Just a little annoyed they did not have the duck that was on the menu. I think I should have been informed plus had to ask what the specials of the day were. Otherwise my lamb shank was a yum and my friend had the shrimp kabob that she said was delicious. I asked not to rush our meal. Wanted to enjoy our vodka cocktails first. They went down smooth.
Food and service great. Noise level, insane. Way too loud.
Nice place with old school Russian decor. Very friendly staff- good experience overall. Had several Russian dumplings and loved the beef stroganoff.
Russia Vodka room is a unique dining experience, almost like going back in time to Moscow circa 1997. It's filled with charming/quirky servers, local IT goofballs posing at the bar and furtively scanning the place for attractive Russian women. I love the garlic-heavy chicken tabaka, the salad olivieh, and, my favorite, the "herring in furs". The place buzzes at night, especially when the live piano music starts, and everything feels a little more sexy. I come here when I want to escape my everyday life but don't have the time to take a train.
Visited because of a friend's recommendation and was not disappointed.
Had an early reservation after seeing a matinee a few blocks away. Arrived in time for happy hour allowing us to sample several infused vodkas at reduced price.
A 2nd friend, a Russian gave us a few menu recommendations. The food did not disappoint.
The fat back with spicy mustard and toast was satisfying as was the olivie. My husband must have been hungry as he asli ordered beef dumplings which were quite tasty.
For the main course he chose lamb shank and I had the short ribs. Both were well prepared. I was quite pleased with buckwheat as the side with the short ribs.
We were too full for dessert. Hubby was quite satisfied finishing his meal with a nice cognac.
I recommend a visit and would come again.
While sometimes the wait staff gets a little held up, the overall experience is awesome. Great happy hour, great food, all the flavors of vodka you could ask for. It’s a really good time.
They accommodated a very large party with barely enough time before a show very well.
The portion is huge! The beef tongue soup was delicious and the dumplings were amazing!!
Pre theater. Excellent service, terrific, filling food!
Absolutely not a place for business meetings, neither a family joint. There was a group of 10 who were intoxicated and shouting to ruin every other patrons evening. What you ask the staff for a new table or help control the pandemonium, they reply “it’s Friday, it’s a bar, this is how it is everywhere”. Of court, I politely asked for the check and left.
Good food and drink
I liked the place because it used to be good food. This time however, the beef tongue was absolutely horrible. I don’t know whether they switched the chef, but it was much worse than in previous years. Good place if you want some quiet, you’ll be able to talk and hear each other.
The waitress was new and inexperienced. Bunch of dishes weren’t available and as I said, my beloved beef tongue was horrendous. Honestly, we should have sent it back. The chef and the stuff should try to chew it themselves. I had to spit mine out into a napkin.
A note on noise level: I went late on a Tuesday night, there were only about a dozen or so people in and out, so your mileage may vary. I had the tomato/feta salad, it was huge and delicious, they were not bothered at all that I was ordering after 11:30(I think?).
I was a little disappointed he didn’t have the Genmorangie that was on the online drinks menu, but there were plenty of other comparable Scotches available so it was really no big deal at all.
The band was awesome. They played A-Ha in a polka style, which was initially disturbing as that is one of my top five and I strongly dislike covers that are altered. But it turned out that I loved it so much I low key recorded it and sent it to my fellow A-Ha super fans, who also were skeptical but then really got into it. After the band left they played more 80s alternative, which was the greatest.
I don’t know how much the bar back is being paid, but it’s definitely not enough, that was some great conversation. I haven’t been out to a bar in a decade, and probably won’t again for a long time, but you can bet I’ll be found at this one EVERY time I’m in NYC. I’ve passed it along to all my friends, and they’re pumped to go when they’re in the area. Thanks for the great night guys, it was definitely memorable.
I have dined at the Russian Vodka Room many times, and the food and service have always been excellent. Usually my dining companions and I order several different appetizers, and of course, vodka. They have a very large selection of vodkas, and quite a few infused vodkas that in made in-house.
My only complaint is that the noise level, especially during our last visit, was truly deafening. It was a Friday evening, so maybe that is why it was so noisy, but another issue is that they tend to crowd diners in very close to one another, to the point where one's elbow is almost touching the chair of another person's. So that also accounts for the noise. Bottom line: If you want authentic and delicious Russian food, this is a go-to place, but don't count on it being a quiet, intimate dinner. It's not that kind of place. But if you don't mind a highly energetic crowd, then you can't go wrong here.
A perfect place for a quiet drink, snack and conversation after a theater performance next door at the August Wilson Theater.
If you're looking for something a little different in New York City, try the Russian Vodka Room. The food was delicious and the atmosphere made me feel like I was on the set of an old movie.
Cool piano bar vibe with great Russian food and vodkas. Will definitely return!!
The interior is a little run down, but clean. The service was very slow even though the place was not busy when we first got there, but we weren’t in a hurry so it was no problem. The food was legit. The real deal. Prepared fresh and very delicious. We had all kinds of apps including soup, dumplings and pâté and it was all great, as were the entrees. We especially loved the chicken Kiev and braised lamb shank. I’m sorry to say that the desserts were a disappointment. The apple crepes were filled with applesauce. Nothing special. I would definitely go back and save the dessert calories for someplace else.
A great go to place for after a Broadway play. Open late
Very interesting infused vodkas... loved the horseradish one...server was very knowledgeable and very attentive.. glad we tried Russian fare
This was our second visit to the RVR... the caviar is amazing. We got the caviar trio. Ask for extra crepes. We went on a very busy Friday night, so the pace was crowded. we got there before our reservation, but the hostess was able to seat us in the front area right away. But this was very crowded and we got seated next to a pretentious loud talker. I'm not sure if it would have been quieter in the back, but next time I will ask for a table back there. And we will be back next time we are in NY!
We love this place. Very festive. Fun and delicious.
Unique, fun place...had an underground feel, serving shots of infused vodkas and tasty, bountiful vodka drinks...could be dangerous...dark Christmasy/Valentiney motif, food was tasty...a little crowded but would go back , mostly to try different vodka shots, there were dozens of choices...
Loved the Russian Vodka Room. Fun atmosphere great infused vodkas. Get the cranberry infused vodka it’s outstanding. It’s a bit small and can be crowded but that adds to the fun. Go enjoy before or after a play.
It was truly horrid. It was a birthday celebration. They sat us after waiting a good ten minutes to be seated at a very small table in the bar area and that was with a reservation. When we asked to be relocated they said that they had two large parties and could not do so. We almost left but didn't. The noise level from the bar area, they were practically right on top of us, in addition to the loud music and the inebriated extremely loud patrons at the bar caused us nothing but grief during dinner. The food was all right mind you but the service was deplorable. I do not blame the server. She did the best that she could but they were greatly understaffed. I would nor recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great place - authentic...lots of Russians - vodka selection is excellent - food is heavy but well prepared, especially smoked fish and chicken...reasonably priced
The food was all very tasty. We had gravlox with potato pancakes, duck live pater, chicken schnitzel, beef stroganoff, and apple blintzes with vanilla ice cream. We tried a vodka cocktail. Vodka Lemonade with a Thyme Sprig. It was very good.
