For over eighty-five years, New York's defining cultural moments have taken place at Russian Tea Room. Ever since members of the Russian Imperial Ballet founded the restaurant in 1927, it has been a second home for boldface names and the intellectual elite-an exclusive enclave where actors, writers, politicians, and businessmen planned their next deals and feted their friends' latest Carnegie Hall performances.

Food is really good again. There was a period where it was just okay, but NOW we are back to GREAT!
The borscht was outstanding. I opted for seafood vareneki. Light and luscious. My husband had the blini with caviar-a nice portion and the kulebiaka - enough deliciousness for two! We both had the chocolate hazelnut mousse cake- very rich and tasty.
Service is spot on but never obtrusive. The atmosphere is charming. We had a great time!

Very overpriced, food average. Nothing special here.

Very pricey for mediocre food. Service was attentive on a Sunday evening. It was a bit of a “bucket list” item for us, with mixed feelings. If you have any other restaurants in NYC on your “list”, check them off first.

We went there after a Saturday Matinee. First time in a long time. The atmosphere is truly a New York Icon. Food and Service is fantastic. Price fix selections are perfect. From appetizers to Desert were perfect match for a cold afternoon. Thank you to all of the staff for a dinner I won't soon forget. As a New Yorker, you need to go at least once.

Great, polished service in splendid atmosphere & over-the-top expensive menu! Yes, it’s Midtown but $10 for a glass of still water, $10 for tea?
The food was good & well presented w great choices!

I booked the Russian Tea Rooms for afternoon tea for 4 there is no doubt the ambiance is second to non. And its list of famous customers past and present is very impressive
Service was excellent the only negative issue we had was when we asked for a extra tea bag after the tea pot was topped with more hot water. We were told there would be an extra charge for the bag, this did raise a smile.
We English are world experts on tea drinking for the record its one tea bag for the pot & one per person.
Sandwiches were excellent, cake and scones could do with a little extra refinement.

Overrated. Food nice but not really anything special. Decor was beautiful, but no ambience. Waiters were not engaging or interested. Hovered around table waiting to clear our plates, felt rushed so did not bother with dessert.

My husband and I had afternoon tea while in the city for NYE weekend and so glad we went. Atmosphere were perfect. Service was great. The food and the displays were perfect. Highly recommended

Overpriced ($300 including tip for 2 people with 2 appetizers, 2 main dishes and 2 teas “and cookies” for dessert) and delivered with poor attention to details. I ordered several dishes to be shared with my daughter and had to ask several times for extra plates. The waiters were professional but with no apparent desire to enhance any aspect of my dining experience.
The dining room was exquisitely adorned with fantastic paintings. None of the waiters knew anything about the works of art on the walls. Very disappointing experience overall.
The Borscht was excellent however.
This is supposed to be a tea house as pointed out in the name of this restaurant but tea came in the form of tea bags !!
Costing $10 each! And not tasting any better than generic tea !
The tea menu mentioned that tea would be served with goodies which never arrived!
Disappointing experience to say the least !

This is an annual favorite of ours, or whenever we are in New York City. Enjoy the service, the many teas, the wonderful entrees and dessert. Of course, the caviar and vodka selections are fabulous. The staff is always attentive and makes our entire experie ce memorable. This year we brought some more friends and the raves haven't stopped yet. We recommend the RTR to ALL our friends, relatives and fellow travelers we meet. It's a convenient location to the New York Athletic Club, where we usually stay. Excellent!
