About Russian Tea Room - NYC

For over eighty-five years, New York's defining cultural moments have taken place at Russian Tea Room. Ever since members of the Russian Imperial Ballet founded the restaurant in 1927, it has been a second home for boldface names and the intellectual elite-an exclusive enclave where actors, writers, politicians, and businessmen planned their next deals and feted their friends' latest Carnegie Hall performances.

Food was not as expected. I have been to other Russian tea restaurant much more tasty as Russian food should be.

Daughter’s 21st bday and it was not even mentioned. We are from Kansas. Guess I thought it would be more memorable for the $$$.

The history and ambiance of the Russian Tea Room cannot be matched. The presentation and service of the food and drinks is entertainment in itself. My husband treated me to caviar and champagne before dinner for my birthday. It was a special evening. We will look forward to returning!

We enjoyed the pre fixe menu once again. Borscht, stroganoff and cheesecake. Enough food for four people, even though we were only two! Just delicious, as always. Very dry martinis.
A lovely dinner.

The service is excellent! My friend and I felt welcomed and warm in this restaurant. And the Russian Country Tea is great, I love how they introduced the tea culture in Russia.

Love this iconic NYC restaurant! - my meal was wonderful and the familiar red and green room made me feel at home again. Haven't been there in many years, but I was very happy to return.
Next time I will have the caviar and some vodka!

Great setting but the ornate room should be equalled by sparking service. In other words make us feel special that we are dining in a 90 year old landmark

Service was attentive but lacked pizzazz

The borscht was exceptional. The Stroganoff was good too. The service was attentive, however the main course was brought out immediately after the starter which was too soon.
There was also a very loud opinionated man who's monologue dominated the whole room and spoilt the experience. I understand that staff would not feel able to ask him to speak in a quieter tone but it's a shame he has no self awareness.

We visited the RTR for a special occasion on last Tuesday at noon, and the staff could not have been more obliging, attentive, and well...spectacular! We all tried a different dish, and shared the savory flavors of onion soup, beef Stroganoff, chicken Kiev, and kulebiaka. Afterward, we indulged in the cheesecake, a blintz, and a tiramisu. The bar makes a great Old Fashioned and Cosmo, too. Come for the food, come for the art, or come for the experience -- just come!

We chose the Russian Tea Room as the spot to have our pre-theater dinner on the night we went to see Anastasia. It helped put us in a Russian mood. Do wish there had been a few plainer food options. I enjoyed the Russian specialties, but not everyone with me did. I also wish there had been a bit more explanation about the vodka flight I chose. Without being an expert, I did not know the differences.

I recommend the Russian Tea Room only on the basis that it feels like you're dining in a jewelry box. It is a beautiful restaurant. But the food is really bad and expensive. The service is serviceable.

And these days they let anyone dine there -- three young diners came in with jeans, t-shirts that appeared as if they haven't been washed for months and appallingly groomed. They were loud and obnoxious -- behavior that belongs on a canal barge or in a seedy bar.

I guess the Russian Tea Room is desperate for money.

Lovely ambiance. Appetizers were delicious -the Borscht excellent. A little pricey overall but worth it for the lovely room. The Rapustin cocktail was fantasticly smooth. Would go back to try some of the other signature cocktails!
The only thing that I don't understand is why every restaurant you go to ALWAYS take you to the last table in the back of the room first. This is the only place where thats not a bad thing because you see the entire place from there. Would definitely go again.

A flavor of Russia even though less authentic some some restaurants/bars on the west side. Very good service. Excellent borscht (take that from a native Ukrainian).
Good menu selection and good, friendly service
A good recommendation and their menu caters to both ore and post theater goers

We went for Afternoon Tea, the high tea menu is very nice and appealing. The taste of the items were great too. However, nobody really came by to refill hot water for the tea if we didn't wave them down, and they didn't offer fresh tea bags even for a $60 per person tea. The establishment is historical and enchanting, but the service can be improved to match its glitz.

I was in NYC to visit my granddaughter who is studying a semester there. She requested to eat brunch at the Russian Tea Room. She loved everything about it. She will probably be back with her family when they come to take her home. She even bought a new dress for the occasion.

Have dined there a number of times. Due to traffic, we were 10-15 minutes late for our reservation. I was disappointed we did not have a booth. The restaurant had more diners than I had seen there before, so service was very slow. We just made it to Carnegie Hall next door in time for the performance. However, the food was excellent and my guests loved it!
