It was a huge disappointment that Open Table and the homepage of the restaurant didn't specify that on the weekends they don't serve lunch just brunch. I reserved a table for Saturday, wanted to have a good lunch, and I was surprised that there is no lunch. Took all my good mood away.
The burger is nothing special, had better. The sweet potato fries were really good though.
After all, I won't go back there.
So underwhelming, food was actually terrible. For $60 a person I expected a lot more, but they give the equivalent of like 1.5 sandwiches cut up. They were soggy and clearly made the night before. the tea was from bags! I was shocked, I thought it would at least be loose leaf. All and all it was a waste of money
Server was amazing . Very friendly and funny . We had a great time
We went to celebrate my sister’s birthday. They made it very special. The manager told us about the history of the restaurant. Vladimir our server was great very nice and knowledgeable. All the food was excellent especially the chicken Kiev. The decor is spectacular with ornate golden firebirds on the walls, Art Deco ceiling fixtures and gold leaf ceiling. There are Russian paintings on the walls and samovars displayed around the room. The only negative was the $18 per person plating fee for the cake we brought.
What a wonderful place for afternoon tea. My friend and I got the adult tea and our girls got the children’s tea- both perfect!
A truly unique experience with a menu that is perfect for almost all palates. If you get the chance go.
The food was absolutely awful, and very expensive.
This was such a lovely place for brunch to celebrate Mom’s birthday. My mom, Grams and I loved the afternoon tea. Mom and I had the vegetarian afternoon tea and it was perfect. The chickpea, eggplant and beets were perfectly seasoned and the tea was so warm and lovely! Our waitress and the hostess were so kind and attentive too. Highly recommend it.
We had afternoon tea. It was lovely and service was excellent. Beautiful upstairs room.
Amazing experience! I waited decades to finally go to RTR! The Maitre’ D was so friendly and inviting and Amber was an amazing and knowledgeable server! I look forward to going back!!!!
The experience is unique and we loved it. The service was on point and the food is super flavorful and unique. Honestly pricey but very very worth the experience and your taste buds will dance.
Very disappointing. Our waiter ignored us throughout the whole experience. Checked on us once about 25 minutes after our meal was delivered. We were his only customers. He made no eye contact with us nor did he talk to us. It was most uncomfortable. He didn’t even bring us our bill another waitress did who had three tables. I was so surprised. I had read good reviews and we were excited to come. It quite frankly ruined our day. I don’t usually complain nor do I tip poorly. He did not get a normal tip from us and we felt bad doing it, however his behavior was inexcusable.
On a Saturday evening, the place wasn’t lively. The prices weren’t reasonable, especially for the lack of thought into plating. The food was just placed on the plate without decorative food/sauce design. For a high end restaurant, I’d expect more. The hostess wasn’t the friendliness which didn’t help with the experience.
The upper level sucks! The service was not very good and there were too many noisy customers..
Took my boyfriend here as his college graduation and birthday dinner. Staff was amazing, so helpful and gracious, wanted to make sure we had a lovely time. Drinks were dangerously fantastic. Got the cucumber dill salad and Georgian dumplings for appetizers, both were so perfect and so were the portions. He got the beef al czar and I got the beef stroganoff for dinner and we finished with the Russian country tea. 10/10 experience, food was so so good, we are already talking about going back post-covid so we can explore the other floors!
Both the food and the service were exceptional! Although we dined early (6:45pm) it would have been nice if the lights were dimmed a bit and perhaps candles (real or battery-powered) had been on the tables. Also two (maybe three?) of the hand sanitizer dispensers were empty. I tried every one I passed after using the restroom and all were empty, even the one by the front door. Otherwise all Covid protocols were in place and it was a wonderful night.
Iconic restaurant that every mom should bring their daughters to have high tea. Very glad they also had gluten free bread for tea sandwiches as an option. Service was terrific. Thank you for a great afternoon outing.
Top notch service and delicious mean
Excellent food had beef stroganoff
Desert of blintzes delicious
Must go romantic location
This was one of the worse dining experiences I’ve ever had and such a let down for the price and hype of this place. We had reservations and from the moment we walked in I should’ve turned right back and left. The reception person was nice and said happy Mother’s Day, that our booth would be ready but left us Standing there for 10’mins when the table was ready. We sat down and was not greeted for another 15 mins. In fact we were never greeted at all at the table. The waiter came over and said “ready”? No introductions, or offered assistance. He barely said 2 words the entire 2 hrs we were there and I still don’t know his name. Horrible customer service! The food was sub par at best, it was very cold in the restaurant and we felt like second class citizens. Then the printer didn’t work to print the check so they brought the whole screen they use to enter the order. It was an absolute disaster. Only the manager was somewhat friendly and the entire staff was cold. Maybe they don’t care about return customers! We spent over $200 and it was not worth it at all. Don’t waste your time or money to go to this “Iconic Restaurant”. While we were in the restaurant, I got an email from Open table
That I didn’t show up for the reservation. Not sure they really value customers to even care to check the reservations. You would think people care about their jobs with Covid reeking havoc on the restaurant industry but if this place depended on service, it will never survive. It was a difficult day as I just lost my mom 3 weeks ago and thought this would be a nice way to cheer us up but it was the worst mistake and my day was completely ruined. Like I said, don’t waste your time or money.
I booked online, parking was a block away, they did temp check, observed masks and social distancing. and no waiti g time when we arrived. We ordered the mothers day menu , Beef Carpaccio, steak and eggs and edelweiss for dessert. The lady host was very kind to take our photos, bathroom downstairs was neat and clean. The interior of the restaurant added so much character to the place, truly enchanting!
Birthday Dinner! We had a wonderful experience for our first time here… the food was outstanding and the desserts were amazing!!!
Incredibly Russian - fancy-tacky Mafia gloriousness and the warmest, friendliest service! 💖
Wonderful staff, delicious food & quiet place to enjoy a special dinner!
Celebrated my granddaughter’s third birthday with her mom and me with high tea. It was lovely
Special accommodations for a 3 year old.
Vladimir was wonderful
Excellent and delicious.
Lovely evening and fantastic food! Best service in NYC
Everything was great, the service was lovely and the food exceptional.
Great History always amazing to be in "the room where it happened"....
but unfortunately not that special anymore.
The Prototypical Restaurant!
Reminds us of the days before COVID. Elegant as usual. Service a bit slow, likely because they are still at limited capacity, but our party enjoyed a leisurely brunch.
Went for afternoon royal tea with a friend. Amazing service, food and ambience. Would highly recommend.
The mushroom filled crepe was delicious, if not tiny, could easily have been twice the size and it still would have been small. The stroganoff was fantastic., but again small. The dessert was phenomenal. The biggest issue was with the drinks, the $18 beer was 5 months past it’s best buy date. Service was also lacking. Our waiter was cold and rarely came back to the table, we were really doing him a favor by being there. All in all it was fun, the food was fantastic, just not an every trip kind of place.
Could not have had a better experience. Safety, decor, comfort, food quality, food presentation, creativity of the bar drinks...excellent and service attentiveness....top notch.
It was great! Our waitress was so nice! Food was awesome and service was impeccable
I went to have tea with my mom. It’s was a great experience, the service was great. The tea was delish and the food was pretty good. It’s a little overpriced but I guess for the experience it wasn’t too bad.
A fabulous place for afternoon tea. The staff did a superb job!
Excellent service with excellent food! I would recommend it to everyone!
Staff was so nice and friendly but f
I’ve been living in NYC for 3 years and this was the tastiest food I’ve had at a restaurant
