Native New Yorker and our first time at RTR . It was dreamy, romantic & a true NY institutions. Our waiter was informative & jovial. Birthday celebration and it was magical!!
Overpriced. Under Quality. Half the orders didn't come out right. (My guests were so polite and I was embarrassed) The The hostess took and attitude. The waiter didn't understand the difference between an Omelet and scrambled eggs. (Asked how did someone like their Omelet scrambled?)
The ambiance reminded me of Disney World in the 1980's. Definitely past it's prime.
8.00 for a cup of coffee? The tea, they kept pouring water in the same little carafe we received out tea in the first time...reuse of a teabag...not loose tea. Ordered dessert-crepes. Two little baby crepes came out, should have at least been four .
Awesome food and friendly service at RTR! Highly recommend the 3 course prefix. Started with caviar appetizer then boeuf stroganoff for main course and finishing with dessert. Amber provide attentive and engaging service. Thank you! We will return soon!
Food was not good portions too small blini was loaded with sour cream and cold.
Came to celebrate an anniversary, and this place is AMAZING. Gorgeous interior, wonderful and attentive service, delicious food from scones to desserts.
Also the wagyu beef burger was 10/10!
Thank you so much for a lovely experience
The business Lunch, app, entree, dessert best value
Loved the experience. One of a kind. The staff was exceptional and made the experience feel very exclusive and elegant. Def bring your checkbook as not cheap. But for an elegant and special occasion this was really nice. And again hats off to the staff for making us feel like royalty
The service was lacking across the board. The food was good and the ambiance was stellar. But the service was brusk and they ignored us
Waiter was crude and food was horrible, overpriced location.
I expected more from such a storied institution such as the Russian Tea Room. From the moment you walk into the gilded dining room you are transported to a different era. Visually the restaurant is spectacular; however, there are little things that cheapen the experience. The hostess stand is covered in paper notices warning diners that they only have 90 minutes to dine, and other announcements, which could be conveyed in a much more stylish manner. The bathroom was in need of service….Water all over the counter, toilet paper empty in the stalls, And the extra toilet paper was stacked in the corner. I would think they could afford a little cabinet to at least keep the toilet paper off the floor.
Having been a waiter in an upscale New York City restaurant, I know what is expected of fine-dining. We always had a rule of greeting your customers within one minute of arrival to acknowledge their presence. At the RTR, we waited for a long time before our waiter came up and greeted us, and then he didn’t even say hello. His manner was gruff and rude. Almost like we were an annoyance to him. The busboys were great. We had asked our waiter for a drink, which never came, so we flagged down a busboy who went and got another waiter. It was the second waiter who got our drinks for us. Our waiter didn’t even check back to see if we enjoyed our entrées. We were halfway through our desserts when he finally came over to offer us coffee.
I feel The Russian Tea Room is surviving on their reputation from days gone by. When you’re paying the prices that they charge, you expect a level of service and refinement which was severely lacking.
Honorable mentions do go to the hostess who was very friendly and the bartender up front. Whoever our waiter was, he could take a lesson from them on service and attitude.
The Russian Tea Room is still one of the most romantic and delightful evening that one can experience in Manhattan. Loved the evening and the food.
Everything was Great amazing. The server was great. The food and the ambiance just great.
The 3 teapots we got were all chipped on the spouts - very unsanitary. Anyone who’s worked in the service industry knows they have to be thrown out for health code. The tea glassware was also cracked. There were no non-dairy milks for tea, and the servers continuously spilled when *constantly* refilling our water glasses. Was refilling between sips. It was a bit ridiculous. Altogether it made us not want to order food or cocktails, or come back. Wouldn’t recommend except for little girls, but even then, the tea glasses - not cups - don’t fit in their silver slips and teeter around. Not sure little girls won’t spill.
The tea was expensive but wonderful. Many different tea sandwiches, three scones and desserts. And as always the setting is red and Russian. We indulged in a vodka cocktail. Wonderful. Highly recommend.
Celebration of a friend’s birthday and first trip to NYC. We had great service. The beef stroganoff was delicious. Two also had afternoon tea. The tea was served nicely but my friends were underwhelmed by the little sandwiches and scones and tea. The desserts were well conceived and various. We would love to have had more information about the tea room, it’s founding, and history without having to google it at the table. Perhaps a short walkabout tour?
Top notch as always! Great brunch
It was an amazing experience! I did not give it full stars only because we did not enjoy the sandwiches. They were too fishy for us. The desserts were great as was the tea. There were these little cherries that you put in to sweeten the tea that was pretty special. Service couldn’t be beat. I loved her
I wanted to experience the ambience and take it all in. The service was excellent. I was not rushed.
Fantastic. Amazing experience. Spend the money and enjoy yourself.
The food is absolutely amazing. We have been going to this place twice a month for the past 6 months and were never deceived by the outstanding talent of the chef. Service has become worst and worst unfortunately despite a very enjoyable manager. The staff needs to be revised to match the kitchen’s greatness.
Beautiful restaurant, loved the decor and food. Service was fantastic. We really enjoyed ourselves.
A beautiful restaurant with good enough food to be worth a visit if you are a first time visitor to NYC.
Beautiful space, comfortable booths, good food & drinks, very expensive. 2 Vodkas $56, hot borsht was wonderful. Go and bring your credit card.
Always a pleasure. Food was excellent and the servers warm and friendly.
The staff was amazing. The food was very good, although I don’t have many Russian food experiences to compare. The cost is high but for a special occasion it’s a nice place with history.
We recognize the history, tradition, and reputation of this restaurant, and returned after a decades-long hiatus. We were in NYC for a family wedding, and ended our weekend with dinner at this restaurant. It fulfilled and exceeded all our food and ambience expectations.
A must-do experience. The high tea is outrageously priced, but lots of fun. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and considered the price not for the sandwiches, but for the ambiance. I didn't much look at the brunch menu, but it seemed much more reasonable.
Gggg ghvhfh KC ghost. Hjbfhg hjjfhhv highly recommended
Beautiful setting for a delicious afternoon tea. Noise level was very high which spoiled it somewhat.
My fiancé and I booked an afternoon tea experience on 10/10/21. It was our 10 year anniversary and he actually proposed to me that day. Needless to say I was very much looking forward to our experience. As soon as we walked in we had a terrible experience. The host was very snotty as she sat us, the server wasn’t very attentive, and the afternoon tea spread was dry and flavorless. I will say you get a good amount of food, but some of it was inedible, the scones being the most disappointing component. The scones were burned on the bottom and all tasted the same, even though you had three different varieties, and they only gave you a small amount of clotted cream compared to the six scones you were given (3 each). The cupcakes were so dry and poorly decorated.. it was just disappointing. But to top it off, when we asked for more tea of a different selection, they told us they’d only bring hot water to fill out existing pot. Tea bags aren’t suppose to steep in hot water for long periods of time, you often burn the tea and it leaves a displeasing taste. It’s afternoon tea, I’ve never been anywhere before where they’ve refused to get you more tea. It was absolutely ridiculous and we very quickly asked for the check, even though we had more than half of our food left on the table. They didn’t even bother to ask how anything was. I’m very disappointed in our experience and don’t believe I’ll be returning or recommending this place, not that it truly matters in the grand scheme of things lol, but please be warned.
We had a really fun experience having afternoon tea here.
Excellent, good food, good environment, good service. Recommend
This was our first dinner at the Russian Tea Room and will not be the last. Everything about this restaurant was excellent from the service, decor and most of all the food. I cannot recall a more enjoyable meal in NYC. It is now on our list for every return to the city.
Who doesn't love the Russian Tea Room? I especially loved it in the 70s when it was a little dilapidated but though is splendid now it retains it's unique aura and is comfortable with great service. My favourite restaurant in NYC by far.
Came for dinner before a show-it did not disappoint!
Real Russian Fare
Every dish was very good
Service not very attentive. They has several large groups to cater to deal with.
Over priced for sure but a unique experience in a gorgeous setting
Ornate and elaborate. We were not allowed to see the glass bear. The food was good, not spectacular. Rolls seemed like dollar store fare. Eating here is more about the name than anything else. I don’t need to return.
We had the full tea. The atmosphere and service were very nice. However, the tea sandwiches seemed rather stale and the dessert items were not great. We have had dessert tea that was spectacular at half the price.
This is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. The service was poor and very over priced.
