Russell's Ratings and Reviews
The food was good but could have been warmer. It seemed as if it may have been sitting ready in the window and the server didn’t deliver the food quick enough. Our server was mediocre. There is definitely potential but needs a little tweaking in the service department.
We have dined here several years in a row. Food is great, but the bar is in the dining area as you enter. Several people came in, to sit at bar, and the noice level escalated, which ruined the dining experience. My suggestion is to have dinner guests seated in the 2nd dining room, to leave bar patrons to stay in the entry bar. That way they can laugh enjoy the bar, without the noise etc affecting the dinner guests in this area.
Had high expectations. The place was very busy but the service was very good and food arrived promptly. For a highly regarded place, the food was pretty ordinary although the steak was good quality. Scallop starter overcooked and wrapped in fatty bacon with creole spices shaken over the scallops - did not really work. Wine list was extensive but very overpriced.
We loved Russell's. Our waitress was great, the food was absolutely delicious, Steak Diane was perfection, ribeye was delicious, fresh green beans were terrific, but one drawback were the scallop potatoes. They were dry and flavorless. You could tell they made a large baking dish earlier and as they sat there was no coming g back.
Outstanding as usual! As a concierge, I simply tell guests to "can the Chop House. Can Elway's, and go the best steak and crab restaurant in the Valley". Steak Diane is to die for! Great Caesar, french onion soup and, og course, the scalloped potatoes.
Service unsurpassed. Maitre 'd top notch.
Need I say more.
We have dined at this restaurant several times. Last night it didn't have the same appeal as usual. The food seemed really salty. The potatoes-au-gratin (one of our favorite parts of dining here) tasted reheated and the steaks were not as tender as I remember in the past. I suppose I only drank wine on my last visits and was disappointed to learn that they don't have a signature cocktail menu. I love the location of this restaurant and the open and airy feel with all the windows open. The stafd is always very friendly. I wish the dining experience was the same as it was a few years ago when we began dining here.
Food was excellent with much different spices used than normal. Very nice. Steak Diane was good and the chocolate cake was awesome. Service was average to better but needs to step up a notch. I didn't feel like I was the only one there. A Plus: Extensive wine list and Great appetizers.
Only 1 of 3 entrees was edible-small filet was delicious while sirloin was chewy and weinersnizel was overbreaded and unappetizing/tasteless. Certainly not worth the price. Server was civil but indifferent. I've eaten hear previously and was very disappointed.
We have dined numerous times at Russell's and the service and food have always been great...this particular time the food was only marginal at best (I had the Ribeye which I normally get) and it was not good. I had to order a second glass of wine three times to get it...do I need to say anymore about the service or lack of. My wife and I were very disappointed since this has always been one of our favorite restaurants.
My husband and I had a wonderful evening and delicious meal at Russell's! We sat by an open window and loved the cool breeze and beautiful sights of Vail. Our meal was cooked to perfection and our waiter was very attentive. This was our second time to eat at Russell's and both times were delightful experiences!
Russell's is a great place to dine for a good meal for the price. It is not fancy, has great window tables for people watching and a varied menu. My husband had the trout and I had the seafood stew and ahi tuna. It was more than enough food and delicious. Great wine selection and a nice place to eat.
Russell's is the antidote to trendy, expensive, impressed with themselves Vail restaurants with menus full of unfamiliar ingredients you must humbly ask the hip waitstaff to identify, artisanal-this, farm-to-table that. The menu has rarely changed over many years, with a basic array of steaks, plus ribs, a chicken dish, and one or two fish choices; reliably decent, uncomplicated American food. It's quiet in the summer when not so busy, loud and slower in December like every resort restaurant. On our recent visit the ribs were nicely glazed and meaty, and the generously sized trout was very good with a tasty lemon butter sauce served on the side at our request. We resisted the cinnamon and coffee ice cream mud pie, but know from prior experience that it deliciously satisfies a table full of vacationing diet-breakers. Our waiter was friendly and responsive. The only thing needing a really serious upgrade is the insipid coffee.
