Russell's Ratings and Reviews
Overall good restaurant. Food was good quality with reasonably good taste and a good price point (for Vail). Had the filet mignon, and it was well prepared, but really needed the accompanying Bernaise sauce to bring out the flavor. Vegetables and gratin potatoes were delicious. Cheesecake with raspberry sauce was yummi. Service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was casual and energetic; just sit down, eat, and have a good time. Will definitely go back!
My husband and I had a reservation at 6 PM and were seated at a table by the window . The service was prompt and the hostess suggested bison meat which I ordered and it was utterly delicious cooked to exactly the specification requested. My husband had the back ribs also excellent. We had a Matanzas Merlot that was perfect. All in all a very enjoyable experience . The restaurant was packed by 6:30 with the kind of atmosphere you expect to see in a mountain resort.. Highly recommendable,
Food was as expected. We are repeat customers and will keep coming back. Service was attentive and fast. Steaks, burgers etc are good. Escargot has a different take than traditionally served-
more of a bay or curried flavor. This is a fun, relaxed place to dine.
Wine and escargot appetizer were great. Only reason I gave it 3 Stars. No tablecloths, which is sort of strange for a steakhouse. They claim they dry-age all of their steak 35 days, I wouldn't believe it from the taste if I had sat there and watched it the entire time it was aging. My steak was good, but not 35 days good. My wife's steak was slightly overcooked, but not enough to deal with the hassle of sending it back. Hers also didn't taste dry-aged. The standard potatoes that come with steaks was just that, standard. Not much flavor. It was very loud as well. Don't know if they can control this or not, but we were sat in an area that had 3 large tables that sat 6 or more, sprinkled in with the 2-toppers. I felt like I could hear everyone around me and not hear my wife. It was actually a relief on our ears when we left. Now on to the most disappointing part, the service. I have never had to pour my own glasses of wine so much at a restaurant before. I know this sounds snobby, but when you're buying an $80 bottle, you expect the entire experience. I would have someone top off my glass at Olive Garden when I would go there in my college days (not a big city or nice restaurant), and they can't do it at a steakhouse in Vail? Not to mention we were celebrating our anniversary with no acknowledgement from the hostess or the waitstaff. Not expecting anything (free dessert on a $200+ meal maybe?), but not even a congratulatory remark was simply disappointing. For the money, you can do much better in the valley.
From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome into this cozy steak house. Our waiter was outstanding, the smoked salmon app and filet were delicious. The grouper special as grilled to perfection. Wine list is reasonably priced. Great meal, great service. Highly recommended.
The food was good but could have been warmer. It seemed as if it may have been sitting ready in the window and the server didn’t deliver the food quick enough. Our server was mediocre. There is definitely potential but needs a little tweaking in the service department.
We have dined here several years in a row. Food is great, but the bar is in the dining area as you enter. Several people came in, to sit at bar, and the noice level escalated, which ruined the dining experience. My suggestion is to have dinner guests seated in the 2nd dining room, to leave bar patrons to stay in the entry bar. That way they can laugh enjoy the bar, without the noise etc affecting the dinner guests in this area.
Had high expectations. The place was very busy but the service was very good and food arrived promptly. For a highly regarded place, the food was pretty ordinary although the steak was good quality. Scallop starter overcooked and wrapped in fatty bacon with creole spices shaken over the scallops - did not really work. Wine list was extensive but very overpriced.
We loved Russell's. Our waitress was great, the food was absolutely delicious, Steak Diane was perfection, ribeye was delicious, fresh green beans were terrific, but one drawback were the scallop potatoes. They were dry and flavorless. You could tell they made a large baking dish earlier and as they sat there was no coming g back.
