Seems like a nice place for a burger. Unfortunately on of us had swordfish and the other roast chicken. The fish itself seemed not fresh, and the dish ill-conceived. The roasted chicken was dull. The server was very nice, atmosphere pleasant. No worries, we're from out of town, and even if we loved it we wouldn't be back soon.
Great gastro-pub type food and attentive service - lively atmosphere. Centrally located in Harvard Square.
It was loud and fun. Energy level was great! Food was delicious and perfect for our late night needs.
Overall a good experience. Salads (beet salad and farro salad) were both very good. Cocktails were creative and tasty. Several solid craft beer options (incl. Trillium). Burgers were also tasty. The one big issue what the steak frites. it was cooked perfectly medium rare, but it wasn't seasoned AT ALL, and so was therefore quite bland. Our server was friendly, but seemed a bit green.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Comfortable and nicely decorated dining room. Nicely varied menu. A very pleasant dining experience in the heart of Harvard Square.
excellent tuna club sandwich; looks like a varied drinks list, tho I didn't indulge.
The service was very slow (though our waitress was friendly), the food was only OK, and it was very loud.
Russell House Tavern is such a wonderful staple. We return again and again and are rarely disappointed. The only reason I give service less than five stars is because we had a server in training and she definitely does not quite have the finesse of the full time staff. The staff member mentoring her was wonderful and we would have been over the moon happy to spend more time with him. We're all for learning, so we hope she knows how lucky she is to be with him. Perfect oysters, pizza, salmon and Trillium on tap! We'll be back.
Food's good. But it's very noisy. Hard to carry on a conversation.
I was especially grateful that the restaurant paid attention to my Open Table request for the quietest possible section of the room. The noise level is incredibly high, but the restaurant did its very best to accommodate our hearing-challenged dining companion's need.
Great place for dinner dates, crab cakes and the pork three way (their name not mine) were really good. Made a nice spicy Moscow mule, reasonably priced too!
My friend and I have each been to Russell House Tavern previously. As has been our experience, the food, service, and atmosphere were excellent and enjoyable. However, the new peanut butter creme brulee is out of this world! Next time, I'm eating dessert first!
Was seated for 15 minutes before server came by with water. Only saw server 3 times, to get water and order, to ask for salt and pepper, and the check.
Terrible service, mediocre food served tepid. The waiter dropped a tray of drinks all over my husband and my purse and barely apologized. No one came over to us until the end of the meal when we said we were hoping maybe a round of drinks oils be comped. The manager then came over and said to write an email and a dry cleaning bill. In the end they did not complete the round. I guess they forgot. Also, the downstairs dining room smells as if it has it been thoughtless cleaned. It was bad
Music was a bit too loud for our and took over 20min for drinks to be served (2 coffees, a tea, a seltzer, a mimosa and a bloody mary - not complicated cocktails or anything) but the food was great and our waiter was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable.
It was just ok. Nothing special. I felt like cattle. In and out.
Great food and good service! Though it was a bit slow while we were there (customer-wise).
Food was ok and service wasn’t the best. Probably wouldn’t go back.
Nothing spectacular at all about the food. Not sure why the rating is so high. Slow service, high prices, mediocre food, at best.
We enjoyed our visit prior to an event in the area. Nice staff, good food, fun atmosphere.
The food and service are always great. The lower level is a little noisy for a business lunch
The wait staff was great.
The food was good, maybe even very good, but not outstanding, or brilliantly creative/imaginative.
Most of the dining is on the lower level, which is mercifully quieter, if not quiet, but lacks much of a vibe. The lower level decor is not especially imaginative.
They have an outstanding location in Harvard Square.
The outdoor dining in nice weather is a real plus.
We will go back. But I haven't developed a sense of passion about Russell House Tavern, yet. Maybe on my/our next try.
Wonderful location. My husband and I met a friend we haven't seen in 11 years! It was a great reunion and the perfect place for a meal. Will highly recommend this restaurant.
Had a wonderful time. We arrived early for our reservation but they still managed to seat us even though they were very busy. Food was very good, cocktails were fantastic.
excellent food, excellent service, deafening noise level, rickety tables, huge bar
The wait staff weren’t very attentive but the food and drinks were top notch, as usual.
Had a really nice birthday meal for my girlfriend. Only problem was we made a dinner reservation for 8PM and at about 8:15 they tried to seat us in the bar. I explained I had made a dinner reservation and wanted to sit in the dining room. We were eventually given a table in the dining room after a bit more of a wait. After that, everything went very well.
I don't know why it took me so long to eat here but it was excellent. Will definetly be returning.
Oysters! Seafood Tower, Mussels, Lobsters, and more Oysters! Great food and service!
The place is good, but they used to be much better in the past in terms of seasoning and service.
We went here for Brunch while running an errand to Harvard Yard area. Always love the food here and just the right kind of energy. The waitress who took our order was quite nice and cheerful. My wife ordered bacon extra crispy and eggs. Another lady brought us our entrees and my wife asked for salt and pepper and asked very nicely that the bacon (not crispy) be sent back to the kitchen. this waitress actually scowled at my wife!!! Really!! needs to be retrained.
Loved the environment. Walking distance from my hotel and Harvard. Food was good. My entree was just ok. I would go back.
It was a great time and the food was excellent!
Perfect for casual dinner.
Great fresh food. Fast, accurate service.
This is our go-to for business meals. The food and service are quality, and it provides a good atmosphere for talking.
The Salmon and Swordfish dinners were excellent. Service was good. Would definitely return.
Great service and food! Loved our experience! It was cozy and swanky without being over the top.
The food was very good! My husband enjoyed his Pork 5 Ways, and I had the burger. We found the drinks to be good as well. We told Open Table it was a birthday celebration and we received a free dessert for my husband! Thank you!
Consistently good service and food. Their burger is the best around!
