Russell House Tavern
It is a fun atmosphere. They have great appetizers.
Excellent food. Nice amount of creativity but still recognizable American fare. Crab Cakes were great!
Outstanding Service. Mike, Andrea and Zoe were wonderful. Very attentive, fast and personable. They made it a most enjoyable evening. Management is to be complimented on such a fine staff. We will absolutely be returning!
Nice brunch on Sunday morning. Great wide variety of choices!
The dining room was extremely loud, and the roasted chicken was a bit dry.
Me and my friend had really nice time. Ambiance was good and not much noise. Limited options for vegetarians and vegans.
Great service! Enjoyed my sweet potato hash bowl. It was flavorful and filling. Would come back again!
Nice menu, great service, great food, good beer/wine selection. Rather expensive.
Both of our fish entrees were completely unseasoned and flavorless. Not what I expected out of a $30 dish.
Our server was not very attentive. She was training which I know demands time, but we never got our water re-filled and when 1 person asked for more coffee, the server just took the mug and they never brought over a pot for everyone else to have more. I asked for my bacon well done and it arrived very pink and soft. (Which was sent back and fixed) The breakfast potatoes were also very sweet even though they weren’t described in menu as being so. Was not overly impressed.
Food was good. I felt the server was new. He did not check on us after we were served.
Perhaps we were there on an off night, but both main courses we ordered were very greasy. The chicken sandwich came with what looked like uncooked bacon - rather than crisp strips with rendered fat, the bacon was soft and the fat congealed in the bacon. The burger, too, suffered from excessive grease. On the other hand, the lamb meatball app was good. The service was good.
Fun hip place. Good food. Nice service
So happy we found this place. Cozy and inviting with good food.
It was our friends 40th birthday and our server went above and beyond for us! From the appetizers to the desserts, EVERYTHING was amazing!
Amazing customer service. Music was very good too, caters to a younger audience with it.
Had dinner with friends before a concert at Sanders theatre. Got a very nice quiet table in the corner. Service was very good. Food was good. Nice variety in the menu.
Lisa was a great server. Seasoned trout was delicious!
We had a reservation and decided to eat at the bar downstairs. It was fun and the food was delicious. Looking forward to my next visit here.
Convenient go-to place for a lunch place that allows conversation, if you get a table to the side. Prices are a bit on the high side, but that is to be expected given its location in the Square.
My friend got a burger, which was delicious. I got the haddock, which seemed like mostly cream. I really don't think that was worth the price. I had gone to the Russell House Tavern and loved everything, but this evening's meal was a disappointment.
I enjoyed dining at Russell House Tavern. Ambiance great and service excellent. My Eggs Benedict was a little too salty for my taste, in part because bacon was nestled under the eggs rather than on the side but the sauce also struck me as salty. The fried potatoes were excellent. Next time I’ll order a few poached eggs with toast and potatoes.
We really enjoyed brunch at the Russell House before a concert at Sanders Theater. The menu is most interesting. I had avocado toast and deviled eggs and my husband had the Tavern breakfast. Delicious. We weren’t rushed, everyone was very nice. Love Harvard Square and will come back to the Russell House.
We hung out at the bar. One bartender was only on his second day, and already fantastic. The other bartender, whose name I didn’t catch (in case management is reading this, she’s a tall brunette), has personality and hospitality in spades. I think I’ve been going to this spot since maybe 2012, and it has never disappointed. I wish they had old world wines, but that aside, they’re pretty much perfect.
Food arrived late, like an hour last, the steak tartar was an unrecognizable dish, side of broccoli all burned (1), simply disgusting.
Nice place . Good food. A few odd dishes on the menu but worth a try :)
Atmosphere and food was good. My salmon came with broccoli and cheese and when my food was brought to me the broccoli and cheese was not even warm. I think for the price they could have done better with timing my food to be at least warm before bringing it to me. Not super impressed and it was nothing special. Decent place to have a nice dinner or meet up with friends. Parking was a challenge if you didn’t want to park in a parking garage.
Great food and service. Everything from appetizers to desserts was delicious! It was a bit loud.
Music: a bit too loud and a bit irrelevant for a Saturday morning.
Service: good but esentials like salt and pepper and tea spoons forgotten.
Food: can be a little warmer, especially since there were not that many people when we were there.
Our waitress was awful! Calamari was bad so we sent it back and they admitted there was something worng with it.
Great servers, food was very good and looked great! Loved the music playlist!! 1 odd thing though.., they did not have cranberry juice, only a cranberry seltzer.
Staff was really nice!
Though service and ambiance were decent, the food was not great
We love this place the food is always amazing. Some of the best steak tartare in the city. And the staff is always so wonderful!!!
Visiting family from out of town.
Excellent food and friendly and quick service. Great booths and an especially great oyster presentation. Enjoy this classic place!
The cocktails at RH was good. We sat at the bar to wait to be seated. Was able to transfer drinks to dining table, which was nice. Not all place does it. The menu was decent. We ordered steak frites and spicey sausage pizza. Steak was alright, it tasted good but even though we ordered medium, a quater outer layer was well done. Which was okay, however the fries were lumpy as if sitting under the heat light for a while. The pizza was tasty, the crust was good and the size is just right. However, the cheese were thrown on there in three large globs and were not evenly distributed. Is that supposed to make it rustic or just plain laziness? We would return again to give it another chance but feels it's not as good as it used to be. Someone need to pay attention to the quality of food coming to the customer's table.
We were there last night with 2 other couples...my intent here is a fair and balanced review. The Open Table experience was a good one and when we called that we would be a few minutes late, the hostess was very pleasant. We arrived and were seated right away and the waitress was very nice. The drinks were ordered quickly but it took a very long time to get the drinks. We ordered the apps and dinner at the same time. The oysters arrived but the two other apps did not- which the waitress took responsibility for. I appreciated the honestly. When the meals arrived the fries on 3 plates were ice cold and the Brussel spouts had no spoon for serving. The manager stepped in and handled things wonderfully. I would say overall 3 stars as the kitchen seemed to lack the basic care before sending food out.
Russell House Tavern was recommended to us, and it did not disappoint. We've gone out to dinner in Harvard Square after the Revels for decades, and this was our first time here. The drinks were all delicious, and creative, and the food arrived staggered, not on purpose, but it was perfect for us. We enjoyed everything - pizza was great, chicken sandwich, fries, steak frites. The entrance at street level provided a wonderful photo and it was cosy downstairs for eating. Good accessibility too.
Easy. Good food. I would go there again anytime. Location great.
