Classic Harvard Square go to with great food for a fair price
Service was great. We stopped by earlier in the day to see if we could be seated near the TV so we could watch the games. They were happy to oblige and when it came time for our reservation we got one of the best seats in the house. Thank you!
Good food at a reasonable price. Serving staff was knowledgeable and efficient.
Always delicious food, causal yet classy. It's like your favorite corner restaurant. I could eat there every day.
The heated garden is not very heated - only book that if temperature is above ~30F. otherwise it's a good place.
ambience was nice, but the food was not! The pumpkin gnocchi with the chicken was really bad and dry. the chicken and pizza was good. overall though, for that price point, the food was subpar.
Dakota was a rockstar. Food came out fast, super hot and super flavorful. Would 100% recommend
The vibes at Russell House Tavern were great! We also LOVED the Brussels sprouts. The cavatelli pasta was quite bad (tasted like cardboard with a surprise huge cauliflower hidden within) , but otherwise the food was alright. Nothing amazing, but nothing completely horrible (besides the pasta of course).
Good location with great atmosphere. Food was okayish.
We had a wonderful time, as we always do. The service, atmosphere and the vibe are great, and they keep bringing us back. I would like to mention that, although my meal was overall terrific, I was not happy with the French Fries. They were not sizzling hot out of the frier as I think they should have been. They were flaccid and mushy. I suppose that they were part of a large batch prepared for several orders and had become past their prime, or perhaps they sat in the window waiting for the rest of the order to be completed. Either way they were substandard and disappointing. My wife enjoyed her dinner.
Horrible service, service staff barely attentive when we arrived and waited 20 minutes until being acknowledged, food was great but that alone won’t get me back.
It was 25 degrees out, and my friend and I didn't want to eat inside. So the host set us up, outside, at a table near the gas heaters. We had a great time. We appreciated the attention the servers and host provided all night. And, the food was delicious! Thank you all!
I had house burgers and it was delicious. The place was clean but a bit noisy.
I thought it was great. They had seats on New Years day for Brunch. The prices were excellent for the quality. I'd definitely go back again!
Excellent food and drinks! We enjoyed our food very much!
Food seemed really low quality and not fresh ingredients. The combinations used for preparing food was also somehow not blending together. A bit of surprise for fairly rated restaurant.
Nice ambience and outdoor seating! service was good and friendly staff. The food was OK.
Amazing staff, well heated outdoor seating even in this cold. Delish food / great value for $ - Highly recommended!
Great food and reasonable prices. Service was slow, but it's a pandemic.
We were pressed for time, and the staff did a great job taking care of us.
However, the food was lacking. The cheese board was pedestrian and over priced. Beer selection was minimal. They ran out of pasta. These are tough times, so may be worth another visit.
OK, staffing is a real problem in the World of Covid, but the Tavern wasn’t at all busy while we were there and the service was a combination of incompetence and total indifference. One of our 4 appetizers was completely forgotten and our entrees arrived while we were still eating the appetizers. It took so long to find our server in order to pay that we had to plunk down cash instead of using a credit card which meant that I ended up giving a much larger tip than was deserved. Our first and last time at Russell Tavern.
Food was good to great. Atmosphere was warm and cozy. Service was indifferent, like maybe she didn't want to be there.
Overall a nice place. And I would go back to sit at the bar to eat and drink
Very good overall experience. Seated right away.
Wasn't sure what the heated outdoor garden was like, but turned out it is open to the weather so if it rains or snows, it is unavailable.
It was a great place to be on a snowy rainy evening. Service couldn’t have been better and food was excellent. The braised beef sand which was delicious and I enjoyed a hot buttered cider with rum. I’m looking forward to going th Russell’s again.
Bleh, this place is coasting on a reputation and convenience now. Menu is boring and food is tasteless
My family and I (about 13 of us) came for brunch. The ambience was great. The wait staff was excellent. The food was… okay. Apparently the cinnamon rolls were amazing. (I missed out). But, I appreciate how accommodating the staff was. However, two breakfast’s and three cups of tea coming out to $60 seemed a bit much though.
My partner and I came to Russell House Tavern to celebrate our anniversary before going to a show. We were so glad to have an outdoor eating option in December in their cozy patio! Soon after we were seated they brought us each a glass of champagne to toast our anniversary. Our meal was delicious and the staff really made our night special! We'll definitely be back
It is OK, not memorable. In a city with amazing food they need to up their game.
Our waiter was excellent. Good beer selection. Salmon was quite good, though the sides were a little modest in size. The crab cakes had too much bread crumbs for my taste.
Great place to see and be seen in the square- either on buzzing first level or cozier lower bar dining
Fall sangria was festive and delicious. Excellent salmon and fish and chips. Don’t miss the brussels sprouts!
lovely decor, excellent service, very good food
Would prefer not to have so many TVs around the room
The margherita pizza was expensive but terribly bland. The crème bulee was so runny it’s almost like a soup.
Great place for a Birthday dinner!
Outstanding food and great service and ambience - highly recommend.
Excellent service and good food make this worth a return visit. The noise level was a bit much for my preference, but I'm not sure that is the standard or just the two groups of people who were seated way to close for my comfort level.
Early Thanksgiving with my college junior daughter. No special Thanksgiving items on the menu, but the general selection was great and the food was delicious and well-presented. We both had salmon and found it cooked just right, with crispy skin and texture that was tender but not mushy. Our server was wonderful, just attentive enough without being distracting. We were seated under a speaker and near a sceeen showing sports; the staff turned off the sports as no one was watching, and turned down the volume just a bit on the speaker at our request. The entire experience was warm and pleasant. Very highly recommended.
Food was not great. Chicken wings plain, and calamari was soggy.
Overall poor. 1:30 pm Saturday- very busy, too loud. waitress was sort of cold; one cocktail was poorly made-drinks came out very fast given busy environment so suspect it was ‘thrown together’ and not measured. Unimpressive wine list. Food was just ok- not that we got a chance to eat much- the waitress disappeared after appetizers were delivered and never came back until she saw me pull out my credit card once we decided we would just move on to somewhere else rather than wait to be remembered . Friend was from out of town and was not impressed. Won’t go back.
