Atmosphere and food was good. My salmon came with broccoli and cheese and when my food was brought to me the broccoli and cheese was not even warm. I think for the price they could have done better with timing my food to be at least warm before bringing it to me. Not super impressed and it was nothing special. Decent place to have a nice dinner or meet up with friends. Parking was a challenge if you didn’t want to park in a parking garage.
Great food and service. Everything from appetizers to desserts was delicious! It was a bit loud.
Music: a bit too loud and a bit irrelevant for a Saturday morning.
Service: good but esentials like salt and pepper and tea spoons forgotten.
Food: can be a little warmer, especially since there were not that many people when we were there.
Our waitress was awful! Calamari was bad so we sent it back and they admitted there was something worng with it.
Great servers, food was very good and looked great! Loved the music playlist!! 1 odd thing though.., they did not have cranberry juice, only a cranberry seltzer.
Though service and ambiance were decent, the food was not great
Staff was really nice!
Visiting family from out of town.
Excellent food and friendly and quick service. Great booths and an especially great oyster presentation. Enjoy this classic place!
The cocktails at RH was good. We sat at the bar to wait to be seated. Was able to transfer drinks to dining table, which was nice. Not all place does it. The menu was decent. We ordered steak frites and spicey sausage pizza. Steak was alright, it tasted good but even though we ordered medium, a quater outer layer was well done. Which was okay, however the fries were lumpy as if sitting under the heat light for a while. The pizza was tasty, the crust was good and the size is just right. However, the cheese were thrown on there in three large globs and were not evenly distributed. Is that supposed to make it rustic or just plain laziness? We would return again to give it another chance but feels it's not as good as it used to be. Someone need to pay attention to the quality of food coming to the customer's table.
We were there last night with 2 other couples...my intent here is a fair and balanced review. The Open Table experience was a good one and when we called that we would be a few minutes late, the hostess was very pleasant. We arrived and were seated right away and the waitress was very nice. The drinks were ordered quickly but it took a very long time to get the drinks. We ordered the apps and dinner at the same time. The oysters arrived but the two other apps did not- which the waitress took responsibility for. I appreciated the honestly. When the meals arrived the fries on 3 plates were ice cold and the Brussel spouts had no spoon for serving. The manager stepped in and handled things wonderfully. I would say overall 3 stars as the kitchen seemed to lack the basic care before sending food out.
Russell House Tavern was recommended to us, and it did not disappoint. We've gone out to dinner in Harvard Square after the Revels for decades, and this was our first time here. The drinks were all delicious, and creative, and the food arrived staggered, not on purpose, but it was perfect for us. We enjoyed everything - pizza was great, chicken sandwich, fries, steak frites. The entrance at street level provided a wonderful photo and it was cosy downstairs for eating. Good accessibility too.
Easy. Good food. I would go there again anytime. Location great.
Frustrated that we had reservations and specifically asked for the main dining room downstairs. When we arrived, the host sent us downstairs to be seated. But then the downstairs host said that there were no tables available and, despite our reservation, we had to be seated at a high top table in the bar upstairs. Which was not a very romantic or enjoyable experience for our anniversary. We had dined downstairs before on a number of occasions which is why we returned. But this experience made us feel that our reservation didn’t matter. We did have a fantastic server in the bar area though, and she annular made up for this disappointing experience.
The farmhouse omelet was so-so, the butternut squash was hard and barely cooked. The English muffin was cold. Chicken burger was good, the Bloody Mary was way too salty.
They don’t offer any bread before meals and no chips before 5:00. Service was so slow and we were starving with nothing to pick on. Who only serves chips after 5:00? And no lunch menu on weekends. Really didn’t want breakfast brunch food at 2:00. Won’t go back.
Cambridge has a lot of other choices that are above average. If you ok with average, then the Russel house tavern will fit the bill.
Cool place didn’t try cocktails but boy the food was just awful. We got the charcuterie board which consisted of clearly old meat and what Im pretty sure was fancy feast. The menu is underwhelming for a place that’s trying to be fancy and way too expensive. My burger was average and greasier than pony boys hair. My wife’s ravioli looked like it was slapped together last minute. They need to revamp the whole menu, lower the prices, and possibly hire new chefs. They didn’t even have the beer I wanted :(.
The staff made the evening. The food was fine, the drinks were fine, but the staff made the evening work.
The hostess downstairs was not pleasant. She didn't want to seat us downstairs after the hostess upstairs sent us there. My hope is that it wasn't because I'm a black woman. It was an uncomfortable exchange. I won't be going back there any time soon. And I won't recommend Russell House to anyone. The food and the wait staff were fine, but the hostess left a sour note on the experience.
We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere our waitress was great and had good recommendations
We had a very nice dinner in the basement. The service was great and food was delicious. The menu was somewhat limited but we were there at 4 pm so they may have still been serving lunch. It is a tight space so if it's crowded it can get loud but overall it has a great vibe. Great spot to go for dinner or just a drink.
It was my first time eating here, and I would return if I lived in the area, but not based on the service this evening. The entrées came out before the appetizer, I had to wait a long time to get attention for things like drinks and the check. It didn’t even seem to be an issue that was limited to our server. Rather, this restaurant has a lot of nice things going for in terms of ambience and food, but the servers, waiters, and kitchen do not operate in harmony with one another.
The service was pitiful. We stared with one server who spilt a drink on us, then he went MIA for about 45 mins and we had to grab another staff to ask for a server, at that point a new server came up and said our existing server was "busy in the back" whatever that means. She was also terrible. She took away our drinks without offering another round.
Service was extremely slow
A Boston Classic! This place is a staple in Harvard Square. And the ambience is perfect for any gathering. A first date, a group brunch, a place to see old friends. I went for brunch, and had great food. Everyone in my party was happy. And the restaurant was beautifully decorated for the winter holidays, which made it that much more cozy :) I always know I can rely on Russell House Tavern!
Great spot. Friendly, upbeat service . Good staff
A very good tavern style place. Nothing fancy - the burger and Caesar salad for example were better than the more ambitious lamb dish. Sausage pizza was good but beware it is spicy. We had a round table for a party of seven and the noise level was moderate enough for conversation across the table. Very warm and cozy on a chilly night. Attentive service.
Everything was great!
Food was delicious
Great selection of beer
Server was prompt and personable
Russell House is great. Good food, fun atmosphere!
Very good Thanksgiving dinner and very pleasant server
Service staff were friendly and helpful. Food was disappointing, though, especially the "traditional turkey dinner" for Thanksgiving. The turkey and gravy were only so-so, and the stuffing was bleh. For what we paid, we had hoped for better. General ambiance was pleasant. But like so many restaurants, the noise level was higher than is comfortable for conversation. For general dining, I withhold judgment on whether to recommend to others. For Thanksgiving, their biggest selling point was that they were open.
Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was perfect. Third Thanksgiving in a row and will be back next year.
Always a great place for a late dinner after an evening event but our last trip was really special. Mostly because of our server, Shannon, a charming and efficient young woman from Limerick. She added a very nice touch to an always wonderful and eclectic dining experience.
Great server (Sarah) who was knowledgeable, fun and very helpful...lots of variety on the menu and the food was also awesome...
They were able to seat us earlier than planned
Good all around.
We enjoyed our first time dinner here. The food was delicious and the service excellent and fun. We hope to return the next time we are in the area. It was a great find.
We love Russell House! In particular, I'd recommend the brussel sprouts and the ravioli.
First time here for brunch.
Seating is very cramped but service and food was really good, great coffee.
