Food was amazing. Very quiet tonight but I bet if it was busy, it would be a bit noisy.

An intriguing menu with fine ingredients, and they even make their own bread. We were offered a sampler including an unusual one with cumin, and a rustic buckwheat bread. They sent us home with a complementary loaf of bread too.

I love this place. It was so wonderful when they opened, they were the first good restaurant in Gowanus in over 20 years! Usually I have a 4-5 star experience here, but this time they squished 5 of us into a table for 4 without even placing one person at the end. It seems as though they overbooked the night we were there. Our guests (from Australia) were squashed. Runner and Stone, that's no way to treat your clientele!

I went here on a date with my boyfriend. The food was great and our waiter, Julio was outstanding. He gave us great recommendations and checked on us often to see how we were enjoying everything. He also gave us delicious bread to take home for the morning!

Their take on modern cuisine is fabulous, with always a twist using fresh ingredients. The service is attentive and we enjoy the surroundings. Runner and Stone is a real gem and we're overjoyed that it's in walking distance from our house.

As always we had a wonderful time. Family visiting from out of town always requests a meal here. We love bringing them here as well as finding ourselves in on the weekend.

A friend and I went to Runner and Stone to celebrate my birthday, and it turned out to be just the right choice. The food was thoughtful and delicious, and all of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The apple cider sorbet has haunted my dreams (in a good way) ever since! I would definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for a nice evening but want to stick around Brooklyn.

What a beautiful restaurant in Gowanus! The food was absolutely phenomenal. I had a bite of gnocci which was outstanding, but my dinner was the mushroom crostini with truffle oil and roasted Brussels sprouts. I have never, ever devoured vegetables so quickly in my life! The sprouts were seriously the highlight of my meal. The crostini was fantastic also, I was just so impressed by the Brussels sprouts. the wine list was good, and I enjoyed the chardonnay that I had. It's un-oaked, so not as heavy/buttery as a typical Chardonnay. It was a nice summer wine and a good break from my usual Sauvignon Blanc. The service was excellent from the waiter, to the bartender to the manager (Julio) who introduced himself at the end of our meal. I will most definitely be back.

What they do best is baked goods. The bread, pretzel, and cheesecake were a hit. The rest of the food was under-seasoned and the grilled fish was overcooked. It's a pretty place, but the food needs some tweaking to bring it up to the level of the baked goods. Very good service.

We came to Runner and Stone on a recommendation from friends. It was my husband's birthday and we were gathering a few couples to celebrate. The setting is perfect. The light, the decor and the seating on multiple levels is eye candy. The server was amiable and a true gem. He explained the menu, which had some ingredients we weren't familiar with. He was honest and we had a good time with him. The dinner was the best meal I have had and the blueberry cobbler for dessert is beyond compare. We dined on the fried chicken, chicken liver pate, the steak, a pasta and the brussel sprouts. We finished everything and shared each others plates, because of the oooohs and aaaahs coming out of everyone's mouths after tasting the food. Love this place. Will return.

It was a Friday night, and although it was a cool summer evening, conditions at Runner & Stone approximated the Black Hole of Calcutta. When I asked the server if the a/c was broken, he said it was working. Conditions and service only got worse when dozens of twenty-somethings crowded the bar, which we were seated next to. The noise, the heat, and the lack of ventilation were so unbearable that we left before ordering dessert, and I had to get up and find the server to get the check. The food was expensive and portions were small. The menu was nothing special. The best thing about Runner & Stone was the bread, but our experience was so unpleasant that we won't be going back and can't recommend it.

Menu was interesting and the food was good. I had their market salad with Sunchokes. The dressing was delicious. For my main I had the nettle gnocchi. It was also delicious and I appreciated that you could order all the pastas in small portions. The only downside of our evening was that it was a hot night and there was no air conditioning or open windows so it was a bit uncomfortable. I am always cold and hate blasted air conditioning so for me to make this comment, it was pretty hot. I would definitely return on a cooler evening.

Sort of disappointing. Food was very good, as usual. But service was way off. Too slow with drinks then too fast with food. Hadn't even gotten my cocktail yet and starters already arrived. Not right.

This is one of our favorite spots in Gowanus, now that The Pines has closed.

The food is very good and the atmosphere is fit for foodies looking for quiet conversation over wonderful food & drink. It's their homemade pastas that make this place unique, and I would have liked the staff to engage us in a discussion about the home made pastas a bit more deeply.

They sent over a complimentary amuse bouche--an herbed puffed pastry--which was a bit disappointing because it was stone-cold upon arrival. Had it gone from oven to table I imagine it would have brought out the butter, savory herbs and flakiness of the pastry which would have made a more favorable impression.

After a few delicious appetizers, my husband had the Spelt Gemelli and I had the Nettle Gnocchi.
Both superb.

This was our first trip to Runner and Stone. It was a last-minute unexpected dinner out on a weeknight. The meal was overall excellent! Seasonal ingredients, interesting choices, and wonderful flavor. They are known for baking their own breads, and these were terrific, too. Its a small, pretty restaurant in a rapidly changing Gowanus, and the staff were very friendly. We will be returning, hopefully to try Brunch some time soon.

Loved this place when it opened, but very disappointed with my recent meal. The portions were small, especially for the price, the drinks uneven, and the food was adequate... but before it had been very good. I wonder if it's a new chef? My pork belly seemed a bit burned on the top and the sauce it was sitting on was kind of like cocktail sauce. Hopefully it will find it's mojo again.

The food at Runner & Stone is great. Delicious, approachable and seasonally appropriate. The service left a bit to be desired. Drinks had to be ordered multiple times, orders repeated and a side dish was forgotten with the main courses. Overall, it's a great place and the people were great but I expect more when you're at 1 of 4 tables on an otherwise slow night.

The food was out of this world. The service was unbelievably poor. They were friendly but that doesn't go too far when you aren't getting your food, asking for your waiter to bring your wine after ordering it and hearing f-bombs yelled out of the kitchen. New front of house and less tables in the lower area, could not move - out of control even for NY- didn't seem like it would pass fire code. But the food was so good!

Went for a special birthday dinner. Sat downstairs, was like a private room. Small menu, excellent quality, delicious food. (It's a very small restaurant) Good wine list. Attentive and gracious service. Cake we ordered in advance was delicious. Will def go again, recommend highly.

I'm already thinking about the next time...My husband and I met some friends there this past Friday night. The place is down to earth yet sophisticated, with a warm, friendly staff and a sleek decor. The place has quiet music and the ambiance is elegant but inviting. You can take your time here, be comfortable, and enjoy everything from the little savory pastries to start you off to the must have rye brownie sundae (I was surprised that this odd combination could be so good!). They have a limited but excellent menu with good choices, so you're sure to find something you like. My husband had the duck confit and said it was outstanding. I tried the specials--a lentil curry soup that was divine and blue crab raviolis that really tasted like crab. And then there's the bread, of course. Honestly, I could make a meal just with the bread here. And as we left and the night was coming to an end anyway, they offered us a free loaf and a croissant for our morning breakfast.

I took my wife out on a date last night to celebrate five years since I asked her to marry me. I found this place through OpenTable and was blown away!!! Upon walking into the restaurant the delicious scent of freshly baked bread wafted through the air. The design of this 2 floor small place was attractive and well thought out.
The service was impressive and informative. Our waiter Donte was warm and friendly and offered many wonderful suggestions in detail about some of his favorite dishes. All of the bread, butter, pastas are made in house. Each appetizer, entree and dessert dish was beautifully plated. Most importantly the taste was amazing!!! As our main dish, I ordered the smoked pork chop and my wife ordered the fried chicken. Both were moist, delicious and perfectly cooked. As side accompaniments, we ordered fried Brussel sprouts and braided ricotta ravioli with tomato jam. Both were outstanding. For dessert we ordered the creme brûlée and chocolate cake which were excellent. As a lovely surprise we were presented with two champagne glasses to toast our engagement anniversary and a gift bag of their homemade croissants for our breakfast the next morning. We look forward to sharing many more wonderful meals at Runner & Stone. Definitely try this place!
