It was my wife's birthday decided to try this place, and have to say Debbie our server was AWSOME!!!!!
Have to get the Tomahawk steak for 2 it was very good and there was a total of five of us dining and everyone was happy and we enjoyed our dinner. Oh by the way if you go must have the suckling pig.
A great dining experience. Excellent service .
The service and the food was great. The only thing I was surprised was they had couples underdressed based on the requirement. They gave us hard time when a friend of mine was not wearing a jacket a year ago. But it was not the dress code what bothered us the same couple were arguing loud and make everyone uncomfortable.
While the food was very tasty the poor professional nature of the service is hard to overcome. After being asked by three separate people what type of water or drink we would like we had to ask where the water was. Upon ordering the appetizers we specifically instructed the waiter that we would be sharing them and that we needed plates to share and cutting the appetizers in the kitchen would be extremely helpful. The first came out uncut and with no side plates. I reminded the waiter that we needed plates to share. He then came out with the next two and still no plates. I reminded him that there is no room on the table to set these up to share and please bring plates. He cam back a third time with the final one and indicated that he would now go and get plates. He cam back with tiny bread plates and said he could get larger ones if we wanted them. By the time the right size plates came and we were finally able to cut and distribute the appetizers the food was cold.
Throughout the meal no one came to refill our water glasses so we took it upon ourselves to fill our own glasses from the bottles of still and sparkling. When we were finished with the water we turned the bottles upside down in the ice bucket. At the end of the meal one of the servers pulled the bottles out of the ice bucket and ask which type of water we were drinking as if he were going to poor it from the empty bottles. All and all not the service you would expect from a fine dinning location in Rumson. They should change the name back and provide the service the prior owners gave.
Great food, outstanding cocktails and service! Ask for Sophia
Need to change the current menu. The prior menu was much better. Our waitress Sophia was excellent and made our dinning experience a pleasure.
Very happy pleased overall. The waitress Sophia was outstanding!!!
Nice restaurant for special celebrating. Atmosphere was very pleasant. Service and food were both very good. Not over the top but definitely upscale.
Excellent service and food, only suggestions would be tablecloths and better candle holder.
Sophie our server was fantastic! We all truly enjoyed the entire evening! Looking forward to the next visit.
Excellent service and meals. Consistently a wonderful experience. Highly recommended. Sophia was our waitress and did an outstanding job.
Restaurant was 75% empty on this Friday night, so I was confused why I had to take a 6:45 reservation slot when I’d requested 7:30 and there were plenty of tables when that time came and went. Food was good and our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Except she got my daughter’s order wrong —serving the Veal Milanese which was the special, rather than the Veal Chop she ordered. So two of us ate while she waited. Then two of us waited while she ate. An apology was offered but no compensation or manager appeared. Not a good way to handle this error during this expensive meal. It was our 30th anniversary too
Went to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was an incredible experience. Highly recommend the Tomahawk steak and the risotto. The deviled duck eggs were yummy. So was the osso bucco. Great selection of wines and delicious cappuccino to end it all. Will definitely be going again for the tableside sliced Tomahawk steak.
Impeccable service and impeccable meticulously prepared food in a classy atmosphere. What more could you ask for
First time dining at Rumson House. Was impressed from beginning to end.
We enjoyed a very nice and relaxing dinner at the Rumson House. We are right in town and will visit again!
Very good Korean short ribs
Food was good. Our waitress Sophia was fantastic!!!!
We didn't know what to expect since the last owner of the Fromagerie ( the original name of Rumson House) tried to maintain the level of taste and presentation established by David Burke. In my opinion, i was an enormous failure. Our last dinner there was terribly disappointing. So to go back was merely to see what new turn there was by the new owners and chefs.
We were not disappointed. The food was meticulously prepared and was delicious. The wait staff was attentive and cared about your meal. There were a few delays that made us feel "forgotten", but nothing unforgivable. We choose from the NJ Restaurant Week menu. The meal was substantial but not overly filling. Just right portions. The desserts were amazing as well. The Rumson House is worth trying out.
Service at the bar and hostess are was great our waiter and the rest of staff were great too. Amount of food for the money not so great but food was excellent.
Great place for lunch or dinner. we did a post-Valentine's Day celebration. First, the house red at the bar was wonderful and the staff does a very generous pour. we were promptly seated for our reservation. They were a touch understaffed for a Saturday night so we got off to a slow start. That said, our wait staff was nothing if not perky and attentive. for appetizers, the lady split a salad. I had the mussels which were superb, especially the white wine, garlic sauce which was a thicker take than most restaurants. Scott had the suckling pig which was rich and tender. for entrees, we had the cod special, the lobster tail with vanilla special (for our pescetarian), the pork chop and osso buco special. for dinner, we accompanied it with the "Siena" blend which was great. no need to reach into the more expensive selections. finished it off with cappuccinos, espressos and the cheese cake which was enough for four. all in all, plenty of room to go high or low budget with the wine or the food, not issues with anything brought to the table. also, the valet service is also a plus as opposed to hunting a spot in Red Bank or Sea Bright. will definitely return.
First time visit, we were blown away. Waiter made us a table side Caesar salad. Amazing. Everyone in restaurant was super friendly.
Our waiter Richard was wonderful.
My wife and i eat out fairly frequently, and we've lived in this area for eight years yet we never heard of the Rumson House. So we were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, the service, the menu and the quality of the food. It's a little pricey, but not extremely and it's worth it. My wife had the osso buco special, and she gave me a little bite and it was delicious, but so was my coq au vin. I hadn't had coq au vin in many years because not many restaurants offer it. It was very tasty, spiced and cooked perfectly. We shared a caesar salad, which was made at the table and it wasn't the best I ever had but it's right up there. If there's better service anywhere, I'd be surprised. Servers were plentiful and friendly and not overbearing. The menu was fascinating and there were at least five other entrees I would have liked to try, and I'll go back soon to get working on my "bucket list". Lastly, the restaurant is very comfortable and was perfect for our day-late Valentine's Day night out.
We went for a Valentine’s Day special and it was the worst experience. First off we were judged from the moment we walked in and seated in the bar area when there was plenty of tables in the dining room. It seemed if it was everyone first day at work drinks came after 20 min bread came hard and dry along with the butter that we had to ask about. The night continued to get worse as the food started coming out dishes were almost unbearable to eat. We watched couples all around us not touch the food and one couple got up and left. Thinking that it had to get better at some point we stayed only to be disappointed all the way to desert. I feel like I was robbed the price for the quality of food and service and left hungry. We proceeded to order a pizza from Val’s and headed home.
my wife and I experienced our 50th valentines day together and could not have had a better dining experience than our night at the Rumson House. our servor Richard was friendly and attentive and managed the pace of our meal perfectly. food is outstanding.
Food was good, really enjoyed the gnocchi. The lobster atop the salmon was tough but overall the food was good
Overall service was ok. Stood at coat check for minutes before flagging down someone When you are paying top dollar you are expecting more attention as opposed to flagging down servers/servers. Our waiter was good but stretched too thin covering too many tables simultaneously
Excellent service. Food better than it has been in years. Can’t wait to go back!!
Back again for Valentine’s Day! Always a staple for us natives of Rumson. The valentines drink specials by the best bartender in town, Bridget was a perfect start to the evening. Dinner amazing all crab crab cakes, butter poached lobster perfectly done and cherry cheesecake for dessert! Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful night! Just easy and spot on. Add valet parking, fire place and best staff(to many to mention) it’s such a warm friendly welcoming place to go.... put a his place on your bucket list.
This restaurant has been restored to truly fine dining. Everything was superb. Thrilled!
The place was freezing! They told me to keep my coat and apologized. Kept us away from the widows.
No more fancy linens on the table?? Too bad because the dark laminate wood table does not match the fancy French decor from Fromagerie. I had to ask for menus! It took forever for the waiter to come. An apology was made for the wait. My cocktail came after the appetizer. They served the main course on flat slate like dishes that should have been used for sushi. Do I need to go on? Maybe it was just a really bad night. I was there when it was Fromagerie and it was impeccable. The main courses were just okay.
The finest restaurant in New Jersey. My wife and dine here weekly. Consistently fresh and innovative cuisine. Staff is one step above perfect from bartender to bus boys to servers. Chef is exceptional. This is a true gem that shouldn’t be missed. Fish, beef, lamb, chicken......they have it all. Don’t miss out on coming here.
A very enjoyable meal with friends, but for the price I always come away a little disappointed, however, I still keep coming back...
Love this place! Food and staff are outstanding. Highly recommend.
Service was great at brunch. Waitress was attentive, never had to ask for another drink, they just brought it right to us! Food was food, wish there was a better selection of fruits, meats and cheeses, just a little more variety in the brunch menu but overall good!
Excellent food and service. Great local fine dining.
The food and authenic table side caesar salad (with raw egg & anchoives) were very good. The staff were all very nice, but not as experienced as the original staff from Fromagerie era. As a result of that, I wouldn't consider it a 5 star restaurant for special occasions any longer. However, still a nice dining establishment, with a very good bartendar
The best thing I ate all night was the Brussel sprouts in my appetizer. The gnocchi was chewy and under seasoned. The duck confit was very salty and the rice balls served with it tasted like nothing. My husband didn’t care for the prawn entree either. He couldn’t even eat it.
The smell of their specialty Caesar salad being prepared at every other table was so overpowering that it turned my stomach. The portions were small and we left pretty hungry. We ordered dessert and it was terrible.
I miss the days of David Burke. Much better execution of the menu when he owned it. We won’t be back.
First and foremost, I would like to thank Sophia and Chef Michael for making my birthday so special. Sophia was very attentive, personable, warm welcoming and professional person. She explained the menu in detail and was very knowledgeable. She gave us ample time to make a decision from all the wonderful, mouth watering entrees and appetizers. For the appetizer, I had the suckling pig which was delicious, it was moist and tender. And my friend had the butter squash soup which was also delicious. For our main, the Dover sole was done to perfection. Desserts were decadent. My compliments to the chef and for taking the time out to come to our table to greet me a happy birthday and gave me a sample of gourmet cookies. I thank you for a warm and memorable birthday celebration. I would highly recommend this restaurant and looking forward to coming back.
