From the moment you walk in the door you feel as if you have been transported back in time. Enjoy a cocktail in the "Rumson Room" which is a wood paneled bar room with a cherry bar at the center piece. Then a short distance is the main dining room with a wall of windows and a private dining alcove. Finally a trip to the upstairs dining room with another full service bar in an elegant yet comfortable setting.
The Cuisine is distinctly Continental with French influences. The table-side Caesar Salad is just the beginning. The menu has something for everyone's taste and is highlighted by our selection of 35 day dry aged steaks. Deserts are all prepared by our pastry chef each morning.
Join us for dinner and let us show you the "New Fromagerie" at its finest.
Great place for lunch or dinner. we did a post-Valentine's Day celebration. First, the house red at the bar was wonderful and the staff does a very generous pour. we were promptly seated for our reservation. They were a touch understaffed for a Saturday night so we got off to a slow start. That said, our wait staff was nothing if not perky and attentive. for appetizers, the lady split a salad. I had the mussels which were superb, especially the white wine, garlic sauce which was a thicker take than most restaurants. Scott had the suckling pig which was rich and tender. for entrees, we had the cod special, the lobster tail with vanilla special (for our pescetarian), the pork chop and osso buco special. for dinner, we accompanied it with the "Siena" blend which was great. no need to reach into the more expensive selections. finished it off with cappuccinos, espressos and the cheese cake which was enough for four. all in all, plenty of room to go high or low budget with the wine or the food, not issues with anything brought to the table. also, the valet service is also a plus as opposed to hunting a spot in Red Bank or Sea Bright. will definitely return.
First time visit, we were blown away. Waiter made us a table side Caesar salad. Amazing. Everyone in restaurant was super friendly.
Our waiter Richard was wonderful.
My wife and i eat out fairly frequently, and we've lived in this area for eight years yet we never heard of the Rumson House. So we were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, the service, the menu and the quality of the food. It's a little pricey, but not extremely and it's worth it. My wife had the osso buco special, and she gave me a little bite and it was delicious, but so was my coq au vin. I hadn't had coq au vin in many years because not many restaurants offer it. It was very tasty, spiced and cooked perfectly. We shared a caesar salad, which was made at the table and it wasn't the best I ever had but it's right up there. If there's better service anywhere, I'd be surprised. Servers were plentiful and friendly and not overbearing. The menu was fascinating and there were at least five other entrees I would have liked to try, and I'll go back soon to get working on my "bucket list". Lastly, the restaurant is very comfortable and was perfect for our day-late Valentine's Day night out.
We went for a Valentine’s Day special and it was the worst experience. First off we were judged from the moment we walked in and seated in the bar area when there was plenty of tables in the dining room. It seemed if it was everyone first day at work drinks came after 20 min bread came hard and dry along with the butter that we had to ask about. The night continued to get worse as the food started coming out dishes were almost unbearable to eat. We watched couples all around us not touch the food and one couple got up and left. Thinking that it had to get better at some point we stayed only to be disappointed all the way to desert. I feel like I was robbed the price for the quality of food and service and left hungry. We proceeded to order a pizza from Val’s and headed home.
my wife and I experienced our 50th valentines day together and could not have had a better dining experience than our night at the Rumson House. our servor Richard was friendly and attentive and managed the pace of our meal perfectly. food is outstanding.
Food was good, really enjoyed the gnocchi. The lobster atop the salmon was tough but overall the food was good
Overall service was ok. Stood at coat check for minutes before flagging down someone When you are paying top dollar you are expecting more attention as opposed to flagging down servers/servers. Our waiter was good but stretched too thin covering too many tables simultaneously
Excellent service. Food better than it has been in years. Can’t wait to go back!!
Back again for Valentine’s Day! Always a staple for us natives of Rumson. The valentines drink specials by the best bartender in town, Bridget was a perfect start to the evening. Dinner amazing all crab crab cakes, butter poached lobster perfectly done and cherry cheesecake for dessert! Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful night! Just easy and spot on. Add valet parking, fire place and best staff(to many to mention) it’s such a warm friendly welcoming place to go.... put a his place on your bucket list.
This restaurant has been restored to truly fine dining. Everything was superb. Thrilled!
The place was freezing! They told me to keep my coat and apologized. Kept us away from the widows.
No more fancy linens on the table?? Too bad because the dark laminate wood table does not match the fancy French decor from Fromagerie. I had to ask for menus! It took forever for the waiter to come. An apology was made for the wait. My cocktail came after the appetizer. They served the main course on flat slate like dishes that should have been used for sushi. Do I need to go on? Maybe it was just a really bad night. I was there when it was Fromagerie and it was impeccable. The main courses were just okay.
The finest restaurant in New Jersey. My wife and dine here weekly. Consistently fresh and innovative cuisine. Staff is one step above perfect from bartender to bus boys to servers. Chef is exceptional. This is a true gem that shouldn’t be missed. Fish, beef, lamb, chicken......they have it all. Don’t miss out on coming here.
A very enjoyable meal with friends, but for the price I always come away a little disappointed, however, I still keep coming back...
Love this place! Food and staff are outstanding. Highly recommend.
Service was great at brunch. Waitress was attentive, never had to ask for another drink, they just brought it right to us! Food was food, wish there was a better selection of fruits, meats and cheeses, just a little more variety in the brunch menu but overall good!
Excellent food and service. Great local fine dining.
The food and authenic table side caesar salad (with raw egg & anchoives) were very good. The staff were all very nice, but not as experienced as the original staff from Fromagerie era. As a result of that, I wouldn't consider it a 5 star restaurant for special occasions any longer. However, still a nice dining establishment, with a very good bartendar
The best thing I ate all night was the Brussel sprouts in my appetizer. The gnocchi was chewy and under seasoned. The duck confit was very salty and the rice balls served with it tasted like nothing. My husband didn’t care for the prawn entree either. He couldn’t even eat it.
The smell of their specialty Caesar salad being prepared at every other table was so overpowering that it turned my stomach. The portions were small and we left pretty hungry. We ordered dessert and it was terrible.
I miss the days of David Burke. Much better execution of the menu when he owned it. We won’t be back.
First and foremost, I would like to thank Sophia and Chef Michael for making my birthday so special. Sophia was very attentive, personable, warm welcoming and professional person. She explained the menu in detail and was very knowledgeable. She gave us ample time to make a decision from all the wonderful, mouth watering entrees and appetizers. For the appetizer, I had the suckling pig which was delicious, it was moist and tender. And my friend had the butter squash soup which was also delicious. For our main, the Dover sole was done to perfection. Desserts were decadent. My compliments to the chef and for taking the time out to come to our table to greet me a happy birthday and gave me a sample of gourmet cookies. I thank you for a warm and memorable birthday celebration. I would highly recommend this restaurant and looking forward to coming back.
I’ve been going to the original Fromagerie since the 1980’s and when Hubert and Marcus sold their business I was very worried! After a rough start with a previous owner it is now almost up to the old glory it once had! We were very pleased! Our service was very good, food was extremely good! It’s a very romantic dinning room too! We sat right by the fireplace? We definitely recommend this to anyone who appreciates fine dining and we will be back! I really do hope they Do Not change the name though! We’ll see?
Have not been here in many moons and it’s changed hands since. Cannot day enough about the friendliness of the staff , especially Debbie
This is a down to earth staff in a high end atmosphere. Food was wonderful. Recommend suckling pig appetizer. Duck and Lamb excellent
Not a creme brûlée fan but they converted me. Apple pie puff was delicious and not overly sweet.
Solid wine list. The Groth Zin with both of our dinners worked great. They have a wine pairing menu as well
We will be back. Hats off
This fine dining experience was everything we had hoped it would be. The cuisine was absolutely divine. My group went for the tasting menu and had various dishes including the King Salmon, Braised Ribs, Scallops and Sea Bass. On the appetizers, the favorites were the Mussels and Butternut Squash Soup. The in-between dishes to cleanse the palette were also tasty and refined. Service was over the top. Debby was our main server and she made sure all aspects of the meal were served promptly and dish removal timely. The Chef de Cuisine made several appearances at our table to make sure we were enjoying the dining experience so that was an extra treat of special attention to detail. Overall a great experience.
It was a wonderful and cozy experience. Food was great too
The Server was excellent and very knowledgeable. The wine list offered a good variety of options. Great dining experience.
Extremely disappointed. One of the worse, if not the worse, dinning experiences ever. Horrible food, terrible service, menu posted on their website is not current menu. All entrees were left hardly touched, no one questioned it. The only good thing was the wine and bread. A wasted night.
The Sunday brunch was expensive but well worth it. We're going back.
Professional and amazing selections
Everyone was very pleasant, accommodating and very professional. They made our dining experience well worth it. The food and service exceptional. We will definitely recommend it and return. In fact we liked it so much that we are considering having our 50th anniversary party there.
Great food. The cod amazing. The suckling pig delicious. Great service. A real find
Anniversary! The chef was fantastic, the crabcake, butternut soup, cod and short ribs were amazing. Debbie our server did an outstanding job and heard it was our anniversary and did something special for us to take home.
We had an absolutely delightful dining experience at Fromagerie! We had a corner booth by the bar which was a great seat. Our waitress was wonderful, very knowledgeable and helpful. We ordered tableside ceasar salad that our waitress prepared and it was a highlight. Fromagerie is pricey so not for everyday dining. We both enjoyed our appetizers, meals and desserts tremendously and will be back for special occasions.
Cod was excellent. Crab cake very good. Short ribs somewhat disappointing. Wine at happy hour is a good deal.
We went for Jersey Shore Restaurant week!! Service was great, very attentive & food was delicious. Well worth the 40 minute trip. We will defiantly dine here again!
This was the best restaurant week dinner that we had out of for the appetizers were large and beautifully presented the entrées or adequate and delicious the baked cod was done perfectly we also had short ribs which were very good although one of our party thought they had left too much grease on the Tish one of the desserts the pumpkin pie with ice cream was not available so we had limited choice but we had a homemade cherry compote with pumpkin ice cream this is a beautiful restaurant and the service is excellent
We had an enjoyable dinner in a pretty restaurant. The tables were placed perfectly so that people were not on top of each other and you couldnt hear other diners conversations. Everyone enjoyed the appetizers. I had the Soup that was delicious, 2 people had the crab cake, another had pork belly and one had a salad. My friend that had the pork belly loved it, I had a taste and it was delicious. I had the "Brick" chicken, delicious. Three of my friends had the short ribs, One loved it, the other two said the taste was delicious but thought they were a little dry. The desserts were also delicious. I had the pumpkin pie with pumpkin icecream. Delicious!!!No complaints on the desserts!!!Our waiter and the rest of the staff were excellent. Even handled the situation re the two meals very professionally. What a well trained staff!! I would certainly return again.
We went to Fromagerie because they were participating in Shore Restaurant Week. We were very pleased with our experience. There were four of us, and we had a drink at the bar and chatted with the very personable bartender. We were shown to our cute table in an alcove and were served by Richard who did a great job. The food was very good - the squash soup was tasty and the crabcake app was nice. The short rib entree was excellent, and the pear tart was super. We will definitely go back again.
Great food. Service was amazing and a great value on what we ate. We will be back soon.
We have been to Fromagerie over 30 times over 40 years. I don't know what happened to it since it changed hands. Restaurant was half empty and we waited for 40 min. between each course. The fish had not taste and had to add salt and pepper to it. The waiter was very nice and gave us free wine. It seemed to be the kitchen could not get their act together. I probably will not return. What happened to this great restaurant.
We were excited for the menu, especially since we had not been there is such a long time.
To me the food fell flat, underseasoned, just ok which was disappointing.
Service was wonderful, servers and bartender were great and aimed to please. The restaurant is as it has always been a lovely place.
Fabulous evening! Our last minute decision to go to the Fromagerie was a good one. The service was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed appetizers, dinner and dessert. The salmon and risotto was especially delicious, cooked just right. The cappuccino was picture perfect! And it was served with a biscotti which was a bonus. We will definitely be returning. Looking forward to trying burger night.
