The Rumpus Room - A Bartolotta Gastropub
The Rumpus Room offers a laid-back casual dining experience and features a spacious bar, an intimate dining room, a charcuterie area, and a separate private event space. The menu emphasizes local, sustainable ingredients whenever possible, and the bar offers more than 20 beers on tap and more than 100 in bottles, plus a craft cocktail menu that changes with the seasons.
The waiter forgot to put one of our meals in to order! And they didn’t feel appropriately apologetic - just a “whoops” and we had to wait for that meal! It almost made us late for the theater. Even after the waiter had assured us we’d be on time. Food was tasty but that left a bad taste in my mouth. They didn’t even offer to take it off the bill. I would have liked a little more attention to this.
Valentines Day with my wife and yes it’s good to date your wife lol this is our second time here and it was excellent! Wife got the filet I got the NY strip steaks were the best we’ve had at a restaurant in a long time. The waitress was fantastic always checking in making sure we were attended to even when she had a full room. I would highly recommend and yes we will be coming back!
I haven't been there for awhile and happy I tried it again. They have chenged the menu, food was very good and we had a nice waiter.
Price wise, a bit on the expensive side. The food was great, the drinks so-so (one came to our table wrong, but was compensated which was nice). If it is crowded expect it to be noisy. A little slow on service at first but it was very busy when we arrived so that is understandable and we did get our food in a reasonable timeframe.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!
The food and drinks were very expensive. Scallops were great but drowning in butter. Grouper special was very small and dry. My daughter had the bacon flight which she loved and the Korean Ribs which were good. Would not go back as for the three of us our bill was over $200.00
Our waitress was great! She was very courteous and pleasant!
Nice place, ambiance with convenient parking. Unfortunately, the pork schnitzel and fried chicken sandwich Nashville style was disappointing. Both were either overdone or just dry, old meat. The bun bottom for the sandwich could not hold up to the Nashville slaw or sauce. The wet stuff should have been on top of the chicken. Definitely not what we would have expected from a Bartolotta restaurant. The Rumaki was good.
Just not a good execution on dinner. We were asked how everything was and as I was replying with a so-so it's OK, the server was already about 5 feet away and moving on to next task. It was busy, had a show to go to, but I would have liked to have given feedback on the spot.
Great beer list. Excellent (not outstanding) pub food, priced slightly high
We were seated immediately at the type of table requested. Our server came shortly after and took our drink orders. She returned to take our dinner order and the food arrived promptly. I had the blackened shrimp pasta. The pasta was cheesy and the shrimp had just the right amount of heat. I also had the Brussels sprouts which were delicious. Great night of dining.
We made a comment that we asked for the booth, and the Hostess said it was for 5 more guests. Then she seated a group of 4 people right after we sat down. When telling this to the Waiter, he just said "Do you want to order drinks now?" He did not care
The salmon burger special was particularly good, and the service was terrific. We like a server named Patrick, but apparently his dance card was full. The person we were assigned did an admirable job. We also like the fact that staff is sensitive to those of us who come to the Rumpus Room before the Symphony. They make sure we get out on time. Finally, the beverage selection is really good. They know how to build an "Old Fashioned" the old fashioned way, which speaks well for the value of having this establishment downtown.
Another great meal. Drinks were delicious. Service was pleasant and attentive. You can't go wrong dining here! Great place to catch a bite before the symphony, as we have been doing.
We went there for dinner prior to a show and let our waitress know. She did everything to make sure we got out on time even though we ordered an appetizer and dessert besides the entrees! The food came out more quickly than we anticipated, which gave us more time for dessert. My water glass was always full which I appreciate as I drink a lot of it! There were lots of people there and they were probably going to the same show we were which is known to be a party outing - that may have contributed to the high noise level in the restaurant.
First time visit, cane before a Bucks game. Food was great, especially the brussel sprouts!
Great place to go before seeing a show at the PAC or Pabst. Excellent selection of wine & spirits. The food is good. It is a limited menu that changes with the seasons.
We arrived precisely for our 7 PM Friday night, Open Table app made reservation. The idea was to have a nice before a Jerry Seinfeld show at the Riverside Theater, dinner and drinks with our friends. There was 4 of us. Although, the hostess station was empty of any attending person, she then finally acknowledged us and had said there'd be a brief wait (turned into about another 10 mins.) So, the huge long bar was hustling and bustling on a Friday January Wisconsin winter's evening. As was all of the sectioned off like dining areas. Where it's a highly social, eating & drinking gathering we're known for in the upper Midwest here, no? Talking with our friends was a bit of a challenge as it was quite noisy in the whole place. If you're into this, great. If NOT, this isn't the place to come for a quieter, calming dinner. It's like a German fare style but much larger pub. Everything is darker wood in here, so the sounds bounce and reverberate. Tastefully done though. There are many beers to suit your palate, as there is a cocktail menu and wine by the glass OR bottle. I understand that they have a happy hour, a specially priced menu which we had missed. Ending around 6 pm on weekday nights. The service was pretty attentive once seated. Our server was very nice and accommodating. Frequently coming back to ensure we had what we wanted or needed. I had the lightly breaded pork schnitzel covered with a fried egg. It wasn't overly greasy at all. However, it just didn't have much flavor as I had expected. My wife had the Cajun Mac entree, which had Swiss Gruyere melted in. Now this dish was quite flavorful and not overly drowning in the cheese. I had liked hers better than mine! We split a wedge salad which was enough for us both. I had a MKE blackberry mule drink or two for about 10 bucks a pop. Our friends ordered some glasses of Chardonnay wine. In short, the $15, 1/2 lb. Cheeseburger looked the best that many were getting! I'd come back but wouldn't go out of my way.
The food was good. Service was slow and long, waiting 2 hours until we got our food and it wasn’t even busy... on top of that, the food was too undercook and not to our liking that we specified... second time being at this place and it was the exact same service and result as the very first time. I most likely won’t ever go again.
Rumpus Room is generally our go to restaurant before a MSO concert of other Marcus Center event. Service has consistently been friendly and efficient. Food too has consistently been excellent. The only negative remark is that the noise level can be too high that it's difficult to have a conversation with dining partners.
Great time. Cozy, warm on a snowy night. Drinks, appetizer were delicious. Main meal was excellent (salmon and red snapper). Thoroughly enjoyed our time their. Service was perfect, attentive but not pushy or neglectful. Highly recommend.
Food, service was excellent. Price, high. Ambiance was good after requesting change from tiny two seat table by kitchen door to four seat table.
Food was excellent and service was great. Cocktails were good - great selection of spirits.
When you walk in it is such a great ambiance. We sat down and we had to wait a while for someone to help us, it wasn’t busy either. The server helping the people next to us ended up bringing us water and saying someone would be by soon because he saw us waiting so long. The server was nice once she began to help us. The food was okay, the Cuban was dry and the beer cheese soup was luke warm. Our appetizer dish was kept on the table the entire time even though we piled plates on it, normally I wouldn’t care but the table was small. We would have ordered more drinks but we didn’t get much of an opportunity and our server didn’t ask us if we wanted another round. I will come back, I would want to try it again because the ambiance was so nice.
Ate here after a basketball game downtown. Great decor, friendly staff. Food was above average...have the pork schnitzel!!! Recommend.
Food and drinks were great as always!
Service was prompt and got us out in time for the bucks game!
Once we got service, our waiter was very good. The food was good, but more vegetarian choices would have been nice. Meat eaters were happy with their filets and burgers.
Wonderful downtown New Years Eve dinner. Excellent service despite the holiday volume with diverse and extraordinary food. Creative menu, diverse drink menu and terrific interior and ambiance.
The scene was perfect, good lighting, not too bright. Nicholas, our server, was excellent, very knowledgeable about the menu items, and he had the perfect personality for restaurant serving. The food was very, very good. The blending of the bar atmosphere and the restaurant ambiance is unique.
Very good. Fun atmosphere and good service. Not to laud. More than 1 vegetarian entree would have made it better.
After hearing the Trans Siberian Orchestra at the Fiserv Forum we arrived 30 minutes early to the restaurant. We were seated within 15 minutes at our table. That was a win for us because we still had a little over an hour drive home. Patrick was a great waiter and made the night fun. My husband had the spicy oysters and wasn’t expecting them to be so spicy but delicious. I had the pretzel which was very fresh and soft. We both had steak and the knife when through it as if we were cutting butter. We had to pass on the desserts which sounded delicious because we had so much at home from the holidays.
Patrick our waiter was phenomenal! They way he worked five tables at once was amazing. Give him accolades and a promotion.
Very accommodating staff, specials were good. Loved the bacon flight. From appetizer to desert this restaurant never disappoints!
Food was delicious. Highly recommend the Pork Schnitzel and the Rumaki! The Blackberry Mules were great as well. Our service was very slow. I think overall they have a great service team, we just ended up with one who was mediocre.
Overall, a great experience and will definitely go back.
First time, very nice experience!Food was great, reasonably priced but drinks were a little over priced. Will go again!
Great food! Attentive service. Perfect location.
This was my first time here, and I must say I was very pleased with Patrick our waiter, and the rest of the staff. The food and service was outstanding, we will be coming back to dine. Thanks for making my date night memorable.
Always a treat to eat here!
Everything was great. Good suggestions from our waitress. We shared several appetizers. She spaced them out for us so we could enjoy.
Excellent location. Food and drinks were terrific. Great spot.
It’s never a question where we will go before seeing a show downtown. Rumpus room never disappoints. Great food, great drink, great atmosphere.
