Rumi's Kitchen - Avalon Ratings and Reviews
We had a little bit of a wait. The manager made a big deal of it and gave us some appetizers. I told him it was not necessary, we were enjoying the bar. He did it anyway. One of the appetizers I would not have ordered but it was very good. We had a great meal with good friends and the staff was on point.
We waited 30 minutes at the door, despite the reservation. We were seated at a crammed table, literally touching the people dining next to us. The service was friendly, though slow at times. The food was great and the portions were good. Regrettably, they don't serve cappuccino, so we didn't stay for a desert.
Overall, great potential, but the service needs to improve to be on par with the excellent food.
The food was excellent. The seating was terrible. We had a table for two. Our table was no more than 18 inches from the tables on either side. An intimate dinner was impossible. We heard every word spoken at both tables right next to us. To my left, the couple’s food did not come after 45 minutes, and we heard every word of their discussion with the manager. To my right, there was an issue with a gift card, and again we heard every word. This detracted terribly from would have otherwise been an enjoyable dining experience.
Very crowded; anticipated a great meal based on the wait list and buzz of the crowd. Glad I made a reservation. However was very disappointed. Never acknowledged my special occasion and the food was tasteless. Won't be back. Not real Persian food; lacked seasoning and taste.
We had an early 5:30 Friday reservation and were seated immediately at a very nice table along the windows in the front room. Our server was very knowledgeable of each dish, the ingredients, preparation, and origin. Drinks, apps, entrées, and dessert were timed perfectly. By the time we left, the house was full and people were waiting. The food was outstanding and plentiful (we both took near half home). We'll definitely return.
The food was really good but I would go a little easier on the salt on the meats and provide salt on the tables for people to season more as they like. Unfortunately we got some burnt bread and this was not the first time! Kitchen should watch what comes out and wait staff should toss out the burnt bread to keep the customer happy!
Rumi's is simply the best overall restaurant at Avalon for a fine dining experience. The food is unique and bursting with flavors. The servers know their menu and are consistently professional. The decor is stunning and the overall ambiance is impressive. The experience is memorable. Last visit we sat more toward the middle of the room and there was some noise. I prefer to sit along the outside wall or near the front wall. Reservations are honored within 5 minutes of scheduled time. Wine and coctail prices are high and the food is not cheap. The food quality is excellent and the servings are substantial. Rumi's is a winner.
We love Rumi’s. We usually go to the Sandy Springs location, but went for a second time to the new spot in Avalon. Same great food, but the service left something to be desired. First, while we had a reservation, a number of parties were seated before us. We were seated at least 15 minutes late and next to the kitchen so we were bumped a number of times by servers rushing to pick up thier orders. Beyond this small issue, the service was not up to Rumi’s usual with 3 meals delivered to the table and the fourth 5 minutes later. Just not the usual.
Third time to restaurant. The first two were great experiences. This evening the server was terrible. The bread was burned as well as the grilled veggies. Will give it another shot as the other visits were fantastic but good thing this was not my first time here
Rumi’s never disappoints but be prepared for a loud and crowded restaurant. Tables are added to accommodate the volume throughout the night and makes the scene borderline raucous. The restrooms are not sufficient to handle the diners being served. The food however is terrific and the servers work hard to keep pace given the crowd but at times the staff is just not adequate.
Rumi’s Hasbrouck always had excellent food and service. This past Saturday (Thanksgiving weekend) they were slammed. We had a reservation for 8pm and were not seated until after 8:30pm. The front of house manager was doing her best to clear tables and get everyone seated as quickly as possible. As soon as we sat, she came over to the table apologized and sent over some complimentary appetizers. I understand the crowds during the holiday season can be difficult to judge and I really appreciate an establishment which trains its front house staff to be observant and proactive in dealing with these situations. Kudos to Fatima who handled the situation professionally. Rumi’s should be proud to have her on their staff!
Rumi's can be a very frustrating place to visit. The food is great and the portions are very, very generous. The last two times I visited, the service was terrible. The hostesses are extremely unfriendly and arrogant. Reservations are meaningless, as we waited over 30 minutes past the reservation time to be seated. Our waiter interrupted our conversations repeatedly, and every time he poured water, it spilled all over the table, including into the bread service. Drinks took almost 15 minutes to arrive. I don't think anything will change because the place is always busy, as is everything at the Avalon.
The service was a disappointment. The server was very rushed, she wanted us to place our appetizer and entree orders at the same time. We barley got the appetizers before the main entrees came. Also, several times servers bumped into the sides of our table and even knocked a boxed item onto my lap and never even acknowledged it or apologized. Good food, but the service is lacking!
We gave Rumi's a second chance but again they just don't get it. It's the service. The most off putting thing to me when I have a reservation and arrive at a restaurant is to not be seated if my entire party isn't present. Last night, we took two cars and 2 other people were 5 minutes away but they wouldn't seat us. Why not? Guess what. I might actually order another drink or two that increases your revenue (also making me a more satisfied guest but that seems less important to you). To add to that, the host at check in has a bad attitude. All business. Would a smile hurt?
On to the meal. The food is actually decent. Although limited vegetarian entree options which is odd for a Persian restaurant. With the entrees, you need to know that it's somewhat family style (they never care to explain that though) so warning, never order two salmons or fish entrees (sea bass) if two people are ordering the same dish. The entrees also come with mounds of rice.
Back to the service. Here is the most frustrating part of the entire experience. It's quite evident that management has drilled the wait staff on the importance of turning tables over. To support that bad strategy, the restaurant has dedicated people running around, eye balling your table and determining if something needs to be picked up. The problem with this is this staff never asks if you are done. They just use their own judgement and remove plates quickly. No joke, my father was in the middle of his meal and a taller female roamer took his fork off his plate as he was finishing. By the way, this same woman took our unfinished shrimp appetizer away. It again happened with a third meal. So as you can expect, management has created an atmosphere of speed and flipping tables over allowing customers to relax and enjoy a meal. Fine. I get it but it's not an enjoyable dining experience at all. Maybe the solution here is to always eat at the bar. You can hide from utensil and plate grabbers.
The waiting tine as a bit too much but the manager's attentive gesture made up for the extended wait. I congratulate the manager for coming to each table and making sure we were pleased after the long wait. Is a packed place so be ready to enjoy the wait time with a glass of spirit!
This was my Birthday and not my first time at Rumi's. We had reservations and had to wait an additional 30 mins our number in our party changed to 4 however to wait an additional 30 mins is a bit much when there were empty tables. We asked the host and she was extremely rude. After we were seated it took a while for our server to come over to our table. Once we placed our order it took a while to get our food. Overall my Birthday Dinner was not a Happy one
