Ruggles Black Restaurant
The concept and food at Ruggles Black is modern and fun: a fusion pushing Indian, Asian, and American flavors to whole new boundaries in terms of taste, but keeping it accessible in terms of price.
Ruggles Black is THE place to be for conscious eating foodies, as Bruce “The King of Paleo” cooks his amazingly delicious treats with local ingredients from farmers, while embracing the Paleo principles.

Ruggles Black is the most amazing restaurant I have been to. The atmosphere and food really created the best vibe. If you're going to get an appetizer get the chicken wings you won't regret it! Also the hummingbird cocktail tastes exquisite!!!! The service was magnificent very friendly employees. I will definitely be back to this restaurant, 10/10 recommend!!
Started with the hostess being rude to both myself and my wife. We had to get help to get seated. The food was abundant but not only very poor quality but also very not fresh. We had fish that tasted weeks old and made us both sick for a couple of days. Noise level is bad as they open at the back and it is adjacent to the freeway. Seems that they try to sell based on "keto" and "CBD" menus, but fail miserably on food quality and even worse on service. Won't catch us going back there ever.
Ruggles Black is a consistent deliverer of high quality healthy food made with the best ingredients. It never disappoints.
It’s always great to go to Ruggles Black. One of the most interesting menus in Houston. Love all their hefty and tasty Keto dishes that make me happy to be on this special diet.
Very good service and the food is
A great combination of taste definitely will come back
Despite having a reservation, we waited about 30 minutes for a patio table. COVID precautions seemed very inconsistent - tables close together, chef walking around without a mask on. Our server was helpful but seemed harried.
Excellent, excellent meal and plan to return more frequently.
Food was excellent, service was excellent....we sat outside because of Covid but we felt like the inside seemed dirty. It could use a big, deep clean
We had a reservation for 8 pm but we didn’t get seated until 8:25 what’s the reason for making a reservation if they still make you wait I did not like that and the hostess didn’t even apologize
Love the food, the atmosphere and the service!!
We were on patio. Music was a little loud. Tables were too close together. My friend was seated under a hanging plant. The food was tasty or server was sweet and helpful.
Loved the large healthy selection of food. The crowd on a Friday night was a little too large for me, so we'll be back during the day next time.
Did not feel like Ruggles is taking pandemic precautions seriously. They tried to sit us at a two top that was right next to an empty four top. We asked if that table was blocked off and they said that no they would sit a group less than two feet from us. At one point we saw the chef walking around the dining area approaching tables without a mask and leaning in closely while talking. Beyond the COVID concerns, I do feel like the restaurant has fallen off a bit and is trying too hard (CBD menu? Really?) to stay relevant.
Always great food and wonderful ambiance. One of my favorite restaurants in Houston! Thanks Bruce, you and your team make dining a wonderfully creative and delicious experience😊
Everything was perfect. Sat outside and the ideal weather helped, but the food was outstanding and our waitress was so kind, thorough and helpful.
Only problem was that there were so many amazing choices on the menu! Guess I’ll just have to go back.
Such wonderful flavorful food.. and also great service. If I lived near Ruggles Black I would eat there at least once a week.
Many booths and out doors seating, which I think are 'safer' places to sit.
Lovely food presentation and interesting flavors.
Good gluten free & keto choices.
It was all delicious just as always!
The food, the atmosphere, the location, the staff... AMAZING! I will be back and quite frequently.
We thought the food was excellent. We both bought an entree. We also ordered a salad, and I casually mentioned we were going to share it. It was brought on two plates which I thought was so nice. Then I saw we were charged $4 for splitting the salad. That cost might be justified if we had not each bought entrees - but I just found that to be more of a money grab than anything.
The food was good. The salad was great. But we left our first visit thinking we probably wouldn’t return. It’s pricey to begin with and then the extra costs.
Very crowded during COVID times, reservations are not honored and seating was chaotic. They overbook over capacity and no adherence for public safety.
Service was bad and took a long time to get drinks and food.
Nevertheless, food was excellent.
Favorite restaurant in Houston! Wonderful paleo and keto options and desserts to die for!
Excellent service. Wish I remembered the young lady’s name. All of the food was great. Can’t wait to return
The food was outstanding and the service was very good. I was surprised that during lunch when I added shrimp to my keto pasta dish that cost $22.50 that it was an additional $13.00 for 4-5 shrimp. I would recommend eating here but will be more cautious about pricing, especially at lunch.
I love the food here and the service is always good. I feel the covid compliance is also good but I really don't like the bathroom and how small it is. Too tight of an entrance near kitchen and locks don't feel sturdy. Pre-Covid I prob wouldn't mind but there are too many risk factors in such a tight/germy space.
Can’t get enough. The food is amazing, and with T Swift every other few songs, this place was made for me.
We had read rave reviews about this restaurant and, despite living in the nabe for years, we had never tried it. We went Saturday night and were not impressed. First of all, there is little to no social distancing either inside or outside. And the place was packed. We were seated outside and there was a table right next to us. I could've reached out my arm and touched the woman (and her dog!) at that table, they were that close. To make matters worse, not all of the staff were wearing masks, and of those who were many had the mask only covering their mouth and not covering their nose. My husband asked an employee who was not wearing a mask to put one on, and he said 'yeah' and walked away and, as far as I could see, never put a mask on.
Anyway, we had made a reservation for outside seating but they didn't have any tables available so we had to wait about 15 min. before getting our table. The menu is extensive, but there is a VERY HEAVY emphasis on paleo/keto/CBD food. Probably because of this there were very few meat-free items, so vegetarians will have a hard time finding something. I had the crab tower, which was good, my husband had the fish and chips, which he liked, my daughter had the zataar chicken, which she said was good, and my son had the snapper fried rice, which he said was OK. The dessert menu is very extensive, and for a lot of the options you can get a paleo or keto version! We had the coconut mango cake, which was good, and the cajeta cake, which was not. It was very noisy/hectic, but then it was Saturday night. The servers were pleasant but kind of harried and it was sometimes hard to get their attention. Overall I found it kind of pricey and underwhelming. I doubt we'll go back and I wouldn't recommend it, especially as they don't seem to be taking adequate covid precautions.
Always great food at ruggles black. We were able to enjoy the patio on a gorgeous afternoon.
Great lunch outside. We nice meal! So glad we were able to eat there.
The atmosphere was very upbeat and by the time we left it was quite crowded for the size of the space. Staff was attentive is somewhat slow, especially on drink refills.
Food was excellent. Everything we tried was superb and even our toddler loved their pizza and the Keto Carbanara. Alot of flavors you wouldn't think about blending well together really elevated the dishes.
We will definately be making this one of our main staples, with the possible caveate of booking on less crowded evenings or earlier hours.
This is y favorite place in Houston now. Creative menu with lots of keto and paleo dishes that taste amazing. They also feed you (unlike most restaurants that serve small portions).
They now have a CBD menu also.
Food is great! I went with a party of 7... cocktails and service were amazing... i got the Beyond Meat Pizza ... table was set up and ready when we got there... We had a great time!
I love the patio area also...!
Hands down one of the best restaurants in town. Only took points off for lack of social distancing inside with COVID-19 still in full swing. Seating didn’t look any different than usual.
Amazing food and service
The hamburger was inedible. I asked for Medium and it was Well Done. A big, rough hunk of meat that tasted like i was eating solid pepper. My friend loved the pistachio snapper (?) and if I went back I would get that, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
