Disappointment but glad that our NYC friends cancelled so that it was only 2 of us instead of 4 disappointed. They knew something we didn’t?

This was just our second visit to Rue 57, both times for brunch. There was, as before, a huge crowd around the desk for seating g, but with our reservation, we were at our table in just a few minutes. SO BOOK IN ADVANCE! The brunch is varied, but of course very French in influence and really good. This is straight French bistro food, with good wines to match. It’s not cheap, but with this location of course it isn’t. And the ambience is classic to go with the food.

In short, we will be back the next time we are in New York

Great experience and definitely will be back. Upstairs is more crowded and louder but the lower level is a great option for a more low key experience.

Second time here in 2 weeks. The service was great and the food is terrific. We were there at the busiest time of day and we were made to feel so welcome and not hurried. The lead hostess, in particular, was so accommodating....

Very cute restaurant with great food! We couldn’t decide what to order so we split two meals and the server put it on two plates for us so we didn’t have to swap the food ourselves.

I’m a Local who enjoys the ambiance of the restaurant but it constantly disappointed with the preparation of the food. French toast repeatedly is undercooked. Tomatoes on the side of Omlettes are cold and raw with a slight grill mark. I Wish the restaurant would carefully prepare food appropriately especially with the prices of each dish.

The food was pricey but delicious! The waiter who was busy but extremely kind & helpful, recommended the sea bass which was excellent. The restaurant was extra busy & loud due to a downstairs party but everyone was gracious. I would highly recommend!

Excellent service.. very accommodating as we had a 5 year old who only wanted plain spaghetti .. our waiter ‘Richard’ was amazing! It was my daughters 16th birthdays and he totally rocked the dessert with a candle and a special message for her!

I was pleasantly surprised at the absolute perfection of our waiter, as well as the deliciousness of our dinner. It's the type of place that you can rush if you need to get out quickly, or dine and relax for hours. Just tell your server! We enjoyed our evening immensely!

I have been many times to this restaurant but this time was the best. The mussels were otstanding, the Dover sole tasty, abundant, well presented, and the profiteroles were very eell balanced. In general the food was outstanding. People think that this is a tourist restaurant (because of superb location) but the fact is that is full of locals. Good mix and ambiance.

Was recommended by a local to visit while we visited NYC. Very busy but we were seated right away with our reservation. Was VERY loud...there were only 3 of us and we had trouble hearing one another (were sitting on the far wall and not even in the middle of the restaurant.) We each ordered something different and tasted each other’s meals (kobe burgers, roasted chicken and chicken Milanese) Each dish was just ok...wouldn’t make it again if I had cooked it myself. Service was fine. Didn’t bother staying for coffee or dessert but instead found another place down the street for some dessert and conversation.

I have not written many reviews, but feel compelled to this time. For what I was charged, my dining experience at Rue 57 was terrible (at best). I expected a decent dinner and was really disappointed. I had eaten there before and was in the mood for something a bit more standard. I ordered a burger. I know, it's supposed to be a fancy French place, but I figured a burger would be pretty hard to mess up. I was WRONG! This was the first sit-down restaurant that I've been to in YEARS that gave me a grocery or convenient store hamburger bun ... it must have been Wonder Bread or something ... maybe from the Duane Reade pharmacy across the street. It had no lettuce, was poorly cooked (I asked for medium, but this thing was so rare that it nearly walked itself off my plate), and was just plain mediocre. Actually, let me correct myself. Bob's Burger Palace would be mediocre. This was just plain terrible. I should have saved myself the $25 and gone to Wendy's or, worse, White Castle ... anything but this place. To make matters worse, the wait staff tried to take my fiance's food multiple times while she was still eating. She finally gave up because her food was sub-par as well. Maybe they were just trying to clear tables, but it was incredibly annoying. You should have seen them try to shove the french onion soup (which we did not order) in front of us. It took multiple attempts to let them know that we did not order french onion soup; it was actually one of the tables next to us. Maybe Rue 57 was just having a rough day, but I won't go there again. If you plan on ordering a burger, do yourself a favor and BYOB (bring your own burger).

We dined at Rue 57 at 8pm on 12/3 to celebrate our engagement in NYC. Hostesses were kind and we were seated on time. From there on, the service was toxic. Waitress forgot my drink order (a beer). We ordered the popcorn shrimp which was delicious as suggested by other guests. Waitress eventually came back to take our dinner order. Linguine w/ Chicken Meatballs, the special, was good. Unfortunately, we had to ask the busboy for bread (and another drink) after a different server delivered our food. Blue Ribbon Burger was very good; fries were cold. Our waitress spent the majority of our visit standing feet away from our table thumbing through her phone and arguing with the manager about a prior guest. We waited patiently for her to clear our table and inquire about more drinks or dessert. We waited for an embarrassingly long time as she stood feet away and decided to skip more drinks and dessert when finally approached. After settling our bill, she made her way to the hostess station and returned to ingeniously say, "by the way, congratulations."

Not what it used to be! This restaurant has clearly been purchased by a new owner or the previous owners have tried to "reinvent" it a bit. Either way it has become a cliche'd tourist trap with sub par food, cheap and untrained service staff, and dirty floors/bathrooms/tables. It used to be a respectable French bistro with the usual, casual french fare and a good wine list. Now they have sushi on the menu and the old french standards are being lazily executed. The bathroom attendants have disappeared, the hosts are amateurs, and it feels like a Times Square chain restaurant.
