Located in beautiful downtown Bernardsville, Rudolph's Steakhouse is housed in a charming historical stone building built in the mid 1800's. But the cuisine is anything but antiquated. Chef David Drake brings his modern american cuisine, simple yet refined, using fresh local ingredients and pairs them with in-house dry aged prime cuts of meat.

The beverage program boasts an emphasis on seasonal specialty cocktails – original creations and updates on classics. Owner Rudolfo Hisena has brought his personal collection of wines to the restaurant, deep in older vintages, perfectly cellared and at bargain prices.

Rudolph's was good food and service, but we actually visited there on the night of Labor Day, so the place was very quiet. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that we caught them on the wrong night for a restaurant.

The dining room had one other group when we arrived. The air conditioning wasn’t working and they had a portable fan on. It was uncomfortably warm. There were several flies circling the whole time we were there and a dead fly on the window sill. The waiter was very impatient and rude. He never refilled water glasses unless requested. We asked to speak to the manager and were told he wasn’t there. We had seen him and spoke to him when we arrived. The appetizer were good, but not exceptional. My husband and son shared a huge porterhouse that they thought was very good. My short rib platter looked like something that would be served in a diner, not an upscale steakhouse. Having only ordered two courses we were dismayed that we were there for nearly 2 hours. It was very disappointing for a meal that cost $160 without drinks. I would never go there again.

Food was good. Service was pretty good, although they didn't really check in with us after we received our entrée to re-fill drinks. Note: the dining room in downstairs, while the tavern is upstairs (although seems to have same menu at both).

This is a terrific restaurant. Only drawback is dim and dark interior.

We were very excited to eat here. The parking lot was being redone and we ended up parking on the street. We walked I’m for our 6:00 reservation and there is nobody to be seen. The computers are on and the door was open but there was nobody in sight. We yelled hello after standing there for a few minutes and nothing. We walked and ate a block away. Really disappointing. I still want to try it eventually but I’m not sure what happened tonight.

We enjoyed this restaurant. They had an outdoor area where people could enjoy nice music with their meal. Inside was quieter and it was nice to be able to chat with friends we had not seen in awhile. Service was quite good, and so was the food.

Went out for birthday. Inside was very nice with stone walls. Noise level was low. Food was excellent and service was great.

Slow service and over cooked food. This was the first time I experienced this. Some new wait staff seem to be the reason why.

Reservations for 6:30 pm delayed almost 45 minutes for party using whole restaurant. Rushed and disorganized after finally being seated. Not up to their own standards.
