The menus are dictated by the produce harvested from the hotels organic Kitchen Garden, the largest of its kind in Australia. The home grown fruit, vegetables, nuts and herbs are teamed with the Royal Mail’s own beef and lamb and the best from other local producers.

The signature experience is the multi course tasting menus. An internationally recognised award winning wine collection allows sommeliers to match wine with each course. You can choose wines from the list by the glass or bottle to complement your meal at Wickens at Royal Mail Hotel.

Our food, an 8-course meal, was very good. But the ambiance was poor, despite a beautiful room, because the heating was not working and no portable heaters were provided. We ate in overcoats. The sommelier spoke too loudly and often at an adjacent table; one of the waiters was difficult to understand; the bill was inaccurate and was amended down. There was no real attempt to apologise for the heating problem.

The atmosphere is relaxing and the views are spectacular. With front view of the Grampians, an 'open' view of the kitchen to the right and the amazing wine cellar to the rear. We did the 5 course menu and each dish was absolutely divine especially as it's locally source produce. The staff were professional and friendly and ensured we were comfortable at all times. The kitchen staff were clinical and watching them prepare the meals showed their true craft and we will be coming back!

A stunning degustation experience, matched with aged first-class French wines. We could not fault it. The best meal during two weeks of eating our way around country Victoria.

While not generally a big fan of set menu, we were wowed by the breadth of the offerings. There was no fuss in switching a couple of plates for us and the wait staff and sommelier went above and beyond. Make sure you don’t eat before coming here as the dishes are generous and plentiful. Timing of the plating could not be faulted and 3.5 hours went like a snap.

We enjoyed my wife's 40th birthday here, selecting the 8-course degustation. We matched wines; one each of the Australia and French pairing.

All the staff were friendly and welcoming ensuring we had a wonderful night. The food was exceptional, and courses spaced well to ensure flow of conversation. The wines were incredible and pours generous. A complimentary glass of champagne and an additional course of pork loin helped make it a memorable night. Worth the 10 year wait to finally get there

We chose the 8 course set menu ( you can choose 5 ) with matched Australian wines. There were also bonus dishes throughout the evening. Dish composition - outstanding. Service - first rate. The matched wines were well explained at the start of the course. Produce from their own garden and protein sourced as close to home as possible. Be prepared for a long sitting - ours was 4 hrs but they prepare you for that at the start. Not cheap but well worth the money. Overall as close to 10 as possible

Our dinner at Wickens was one of the best high-end dining experiences we've ever had.

We chose the 8-Course menu matched with accompanying Australian wines.

The food was innovative and utterly delicious, the wine list extensive, the service impeccable and the ambience of the room just perfect.

For us, it rates on a level with the likes of Attica and Vue De Monde, comes close to The Fat Duck, and outshines Dinner by Heston in every regard.

Of course, it is expensive - but worth every cent!

Excellent food and service. I found the meat a bit underdone hence was chewy. The bread rolls were far too hard. Otherwise was a wonderful experience.

This was an amazing dining experience. The food was exquisitely prepared and tasted fabulous. The wine pairing was lovely. The staff gave detailed explanations of where the wines came from and how they had been matched to the meal. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming.

Wickens at Royal Mail makes for a special evening.
We were treated with great service and some excellent food.
The Alphabet soup is creative, surprising, and tasty.
We both REALLY enjoyed our squab dish.
We had the 8 course menu, dishes were spaced out enough for us to enjoy the entire meal.
If you are able to visit, we recommend it.

A third time visitor just says it all ...
In three months.
We enjoyed all aspects of the experience.
Matthew the maitre d and expert sommelier brings a lovely warmth and professional feel to the space which offers a stunning view of the lower Grampians.
The food is innovative ... we have tried the five course plus numerous snacks and course size is bigger.
Yet really enjoyed the eight course as it had smaller tastes of more.
Make the visit, make a weekend ... we stayed four nights last time.

Vegetarian friendly! And not just carrot ends and lettuce cups, real thought-out dishes where broccoli was treated as respectfully as duck breast. Everything was so considered. From seating, lighting, plating, wines, food; everything had a place and felt right. Knowledgeable and attentive waiters made it more of an experience than just a dinner. Every bite of every meal a treasure.

The selection of wine by the glass was amazing. The sommelier was very good. Enjoyed the food, but it wasn’t as good as similar restaurants at the same level. The building and ambiance were great. The only thing that I would suggest to improve is the flavour combination with the food. More so with the initial starters.

food was adventurous and modern. we had the 8 course menu and there was more than enough food. on a personal note, I found some of the courses a little out of balance with one strong element on some dishes.

We had the five course meal but with the starters, bread and palate cleanser it was too bigger meal. Portions needed to be 10% smaller. The food was divine.

It's worth the trip to Dunkeld for a magical and unique dining experience. The execution and service are first rate. What really sets it apart is the imagination behind some of the flavour combinations. Crayfish tastes wonderfully sweet when paired with smokey tomato. That touch of creamy lemon sago made the savoury broad bean soup zing. The menu changes with the seasons, so there's always something delightful to try.

Waited years to get here with high expectations. This was the best dining experience I've ever had & we've been to some pretty nice places. The quality of the staff & the obvious high level of training we're standouts. Just perfectly executed, an icon for the Oz tourism & dining industries.

Fantastic place! We said it was for my partne’s 30th and we were given complimentary sparkling, an extra course and received a gift! Flawless service. It was a great experience and we loved every minute of it! Would recommend.

This was my second experience with dinner at The Royal Mail. I ordered the Eight course meal without matching wines. I felt the beginning 3 maybe 4 courses were “one note” in taste. The broadbands and peas used carried the same flavors in each presentation. Then the tastes and flavors gradually came better in to play. The floor to ceiling windows revealed a 180* landscape which was lovely to see at sunset. Then my attention turned to what was happening in the kitchen, again with floor to ceiling

Dining at Wickens was a wonderful experience. The food - presentation, taste and portion size was perfect. All the added extras were a wonderful unexpected treat. My only disappointment was the slow, drawn out service which was unacknowledged by staff. The last courses were slightly overshadowed by trying to make the last glass of a second bottle of wine last.... Over 4 hours for late dinner was a bit too long for us.

My wife and I had the 8 course degustation (12 with all the extras). Food was exceptional! Menu is seasonal with a lot sourced from their own garden. We left feeling very full and satisfied :)The kitchen is visible so you can see everyone hard at work. The staff were very attentive and provided excellent service. Will definitely come back when in the area again.

Beautiful scenery out the floor to ceiling windows. Appreciate the use of home-produced ingredients but they went a bit heavy overboard trying to cram in season herbs into almost every dish.

The service was friendly and attentive but not intrusive and informative about the food and wine. The dishes were replete with delightful surprises with beautifully crafted flavours and presentation. The ambience and setting were carefully designed to allow us to focus on the food and wine and the conviviality of friends around the table.

Amazing experience dining for dinner to celebrate a birthday. The staff were welcoming and professional, with waiters ensuring we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Wines paired with each course were clearly explained with a little back story which was a lovely touch. Each meal was elegant and perfectly prepared by the chefs and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience!

We considered our evening at Wickens at Royal Mail to be the most enjoyable experience. All staff were very friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable about all aspects of our evening, not just the food but the design and planning that went into the design and materials used in building the venue. They also shared their knowledge about the local area. Another highlight was the tour of the kitchen garden which we did the following morning, an almost compulsory treat.

Wickens is a gem in a quaint town. The quality of the 6 course fare (we added the squab to our five course) prepared and delivered by Dave and his team (Robin was away)is exceptional. The wine pairing is excellent, though during the Wine explanation from the Sommelier, they should engage both diners equally and not just focus on one.
The overall experience is wonderful and we would certainly come again.

Lovely meal with matching wines. Great for that special occasion..... if you both want the same number of courses.

Selection of a 5 or eight course meal. Very disappointed that we had to both select the same option. Seems it more about the kitchen than the diners.

The RMH has been on my bucket list for a number of years. We took the Friday off work and made the 3hr trek from Melbourne. We had the 5 course menu and you can choose your own wines through their magnificent wine list, or you can choose to have food matched wines from the cellar, Australia or France. We chose the cellar matched wines. We found 5 courses to be the perfect amount of food, as neither of us are huge eaters.
