Very disappointed, ordered a Crab Cake and it spelt bad and tasted worse, thought my wife and I were going to get sick right on the spot.
The Ribs were good and they comped the Crab Cake.
Bottom line, I miss the old Royal Hawaiian from years back, there is no comparison....
We have been here many times now, it is a fun place and the service is excellent. The only bad experience here was the first time when they had a very loud band, we all thought we would go deaf. But this time they had a lovely women who played beautifully and at the right level. We had again the poke appetizer which is very yummy and generous, easily 4 of us enjoyed it. My husband and I split the burger which was enough for us. Maybe one of the best burgers around. It was his BD and the server brought a large piece of cake along with our ordered pineapple upside down cake, so that was unexpected and very nice. Our friend got the portobello mushroom sandwich and really enjoyed it.
Wonderful food and service!
Came in for Sunday brunch and was not disappointed! Food was good, the staff was friendly, and the pineapple mimosas flowed right up until happy hour. Great deal!
Awesome drink menu and delicious food! Everything we ordered left us wanting more...especially the homemade dessert.
The food does not live up to the price BBQ ribs are two pieces of four ribs each.
Piled on one kitchen scoop of tasteless rice. Nothing else on the plate.
No napkins given with the ribs and no plate for the used bones. So you
must try to strip the meat off the bones with a fork. Unsuccessful
Other meal was a lobster. At least it came with a starch and a vegetable , two piceces
Good job done with the decore Soft Hawaiian music during dinner I give them a plus
for that effort. If they charge first class prices then they food level must be raised to at
least second class. It is barely third class at this time.
The food is good but the drinks, they put a lot of ice and could hardly drink with a small straw.
live music was nice addition.
Fantastic local spot with classic tiki cocktails ( the Lapu Lapu is legendary) and tasty entrees. The Friday night we dined there was great Island style guitarist ...so refreshing to have live music at a restaurant with a lively bar scene and not be subjected to ESPN or sports TV that could have killed the mood of a tropical hideaway like this.
My family loves this restaurant.
We wanted to try a new restaurant and chose Royal Hawaiian and were very pleased with our choice. Wendy, our server, was very friendly and her recommendations were spot on! Food was delicious!
UCI has an annual Hawaiian Music series this evening was the first of three performances. We went to the Royal Hawaiian before the concert at UCI. We enjoyed the ambiance and amazing food. Prior to arriving at the Royal Hawaiian we walked looking out on the beaches, cliffs and ocean a short block west of the Royal Hawaiian. The evening was a lot of fun. We will be returning to the Royal Hawaiian with friends and family in the future.
The hostess was very nice and we were seated right away. We were just in time for happy hour so we were able to take advantage of the 4 appetizers for $28 to start our meal. We also took advantage of the OC Restaurant Week menu which was a very nice value. The only food complaint was when I read "Butterfish" I expected the normal and wonderful "Black Cod". That substitution was a disappointment.
We came for Restaurant Week and definitely enjoyed our meal.
Food was terrible. I don’t know if it was just an off night or what. From the main entree to the dessert - it was awful. I sent my main course back because it was inedible. We tried to make the of it because it was our 21st wedding a anniversary. Hope they improve their food - as the restaurant itself is lovely.
our table was looking at the waiter station where they put in their orders - so I wasn't thrilled about that - but the decor was very nice and live music was entertaining. Food was very good. Drinks had too much ice - soooo much ice.
Recently renovated, this is a beautiful tiki bar, with all sorts of cool touches like tapa-covered lanterns, glass fishing floats, and so on. The drinks were excellent, and the food and service were great. The four of us all enjoyed the experience very much.
We were slightly disappointed. We asked to split a salad and the ribeye. There was an extra plate charge so we ate off one plate. The ribeye was so fatty that my wife mentioned it to the manager who had inquired about our meal. He comped the steak. We paid for the salad and a very nice bottle of wine and tipped the full amount. An attentive manager made a big difference.
Over- priced, weak drinks and OK food. This is my third visit, now for brunch. Every restaurant around on this gorgeous Sunday day was packed and RH had 3 other tables with customers when I was there.
They need to re-evaluate their pricing. $15.75 for a Mai Tai is ludicrous. This local will not be back.
We have been to RH several times, but for some reason this past Saturday night they had ear-splitting live music. We had to cancel our dinner order and leave. Why do restaurants think their customers want to listen to ridiculously loud music while dining? I draw the line at the point you cannot have a conversation with the person sitting next to you.
Not worth it. Drinks are expensive and not good. Sat for an hour without getting asked what we wanted to eat.
Service was atrocious, the sound level was deafening. Will NEVER go back. Food was overpriced and underwhelming.
Fun spot. Great service and food!😎👍🌴🌈🥂Casual and neighborly
enjoyed the new additions to the menu, especially the vegetarian
items. Love the Hawaiian atmosphere, they have done a great
job on the decor since their opening lasti year.
I had ahi poke and friend has the ribs. Both were perfect.
Can hardly wait to return.
Good service... love the food setting... very cozy... not too loud... foods very tasty got the ribs and coconut shrimp and filet mignon 10oz .... superb👍🏼
Enjoyed a Valentine day dinner with the wife. In comparison to the first time I went there, this place has improved. We enjoyed the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection. There was live Hawaiian style music whic really set the mood. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a tropical vacation ambiance.
Upon arrival I was given a lei and it was Valentine’s Day and they had a pre fix menu which had a decent amount of choices. My boyfriend and I each enjoyed our appetizer, entree and a dessert.
Valentines set menu didn’t leave you many choices, so you had to come in hungry to get your monies worth.
Very disappointing across the board!! One server left waiting on about 7 + tables. Every table near us was equally frustrated. This was our first time back since they reopened and I can say we won’t be back.
One waiter working the entire restaurant. Food came out at different times. We were there for brunch. Toast was served dry and no condiments were offered. By the time the waiter came back with condiments we were done.
Polynesian Vibe, with hand crafted drinks and Mac-encrusted specialties. A nice place to go if you're looking for Hawaiian kitsch and exotic drinks. Was not too busy for a weeknight...I would imagine that weekends would be busier. Go early for their appetizer specials or split a few of their small apps and find an exotic drink to compliment. Their salads are pretty good but the fresh butterfish encrusted with macadamia nuts was superb. We will definitely be coming back. They offer a couple of pricey drinks in collector's edition mugs and won't compromise by allowing you to just purchase the pretty mug...that was the only bummer. Great to hear that they opened again, very Tiki indeed and the live music was a bonus.
Fun little Gem. Tiki Bar and Hawaiian Fare. The food was on point for timeliness and flavor. From hostess to wait staff, our experience was filled with Ohana. Our waitress was fantastic, fun and helpful. Willing to answer any questions. I'd rate it, 2 Shakas Up!! 🤙🤙
Great tiki drinks and happy hour. Free parking lot
So So. Don’t know if we’ll be back.
We were celebrating my Mom's (Early) 85th Birthday. She didn't get a lei or a birthday cake. We didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but we were really disappointed.
great Hawaiian restaurant, vibrant bar area with great live Hawaiian music. good looking people in the bar area. food was excellent. will definitely return.
We sought this tiki bar out for our first night in California from Cincy. We came for the drinks, and all of them were superb. I was a little disappointed in our waitress, the prices were steep for what you got, and they didn’t have what I ordered (pretty simple chicken teriyaki dish). I’m always very understanding all around, but it could have been a bit better experience overall. I’d definitely go again, but probably just stick to drinks if it was a busy night.
fun place! We intend to try the bar area more next time to try some of the other drinks
Love this place. The service is usually better than it was this last visit, ( I felt rushed), but in any case worth it for the delicious food - seared ahi tuna - and great, but expensive mai tais. If you can't go to Hawaii, go to the Royal Hawaiian
