Food and service was good. Old time San Francisco decor.
Good food, great service friendly atmosphere, a little noisy, but the ususal hustle and bustle of the city
One of my favorite "go to" restaurants with friends for lunch. The food is consistently good and the service is great. I love getting a booth because it's much quieter than sitting at a table or the bar. Highly recommended!
We had a special occasion/business meal for some executive managers treating us graphic designers for all the hard work we had done, and this is the spot we all picked as our 'favorite local dining casual spot' to have some good food, conversations, and drinks (good beer selection!!). We had a great time, great food, always a good time here. However, sadly to report, upon arrival we were not greeted and did not get our reservation (hostess gave our table to a walk in group right before us). We told her we had a reservation for 1:15p (as we had to get back to work by 2:15p) but ended up being late back to work because we had to wait for the next party of 5 table opening and did not get seated on time, kind of disappointing since we made a reservation :( Offered community table but we purposely wanted our own table since we reserved it. Would be nice in future the reservations be honored for people who need to get back to work. Thanks for the great spot to grab food and beers!!!
Black and bleu salad never disappoints. Fast friendly awesome service. You can never go wrong with Royal Exchange.
I've probably been going to The Royal Exchange for over 20 years. I've always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. They must have a new chef because the food quality, and menu have improved. It's not just bar food any more. A good upgrade in flavor and choices!!
Great lunch spot in the downtown/embarcadero area. A little noisey, but food and service makes up for it.
A great San Francisco tradition and meeting spot. The bar is open and inviting, while the dining booths provide quite privacy for conversations. It is the "go to" spot in the financial district.
Royal Exchange does not accept reservations after noon, so we waited for an available table. Same token they do not serve appetizers
We had a good business lunch at Royal Exchange for a group of 6. We had great service, good food in a lively and fun atmosphere. We look forward to coming back again soon.
The booths are great for talking with each other. The noise level may not have been high in the main room but it was fine for conversation in the booth.
We both had the special steak salad, recommended by our fabulous waitress. It exceeded our expectations!!! I love this restaurant. The wait staff is excellent and the food is so yummy. Everything I order is a 10 in my book!
Cool Spot in Sf we came accesos
Excellent pub in the finacial district. Good food and quick service. Fills a void for group lunches in the area.
Great San Francisco tradition, one of the gems of the financial district.
I have been going to Royal Exchange for many years, both when I worked downtown and after I retired. It has never disappointed: good food, good bar and great service. It is my first choice for week day lunches or afternoon happy hour.
Because of its proximity to those meeting for lunch, I selected the Royal Exchange. Having had a good lunch there before, it seemed worth a try. After all, it is colorful, a watering hole for the younger types, but seemed OK for a business lunch (Its menu has enough variation to satisfy most tastes, its wine list is good, & its prices are relatively reasonable for its location.). The 4 of us arrived at varied times. I arrived first & got one of their "quiet tables." As each diner arrived, the service was prompt. As the place filled, the noise gave the sense of a good vibe, but was neither overly loud nor unduly raucous. We spent about 75 - 90 minutes. Everyone was pleased with their food (including the vegetarian), their wine or beverage, their ability to be part of the conversation, & the price was reasonable.
I went to Royal Exchange for a happy hour with my co-workers on a Tuesday after work. The food was very good, nice portion size. The drinks were your typical happy hour prices for the city (special cocktails between $4-$7 and beer was right around $5-$6). However, the service was not exceptional. We made a reservation for 8 and the waitress only came around a few times to refill our orders. When she was there, she was not very attentive.
They take your order on an iPhone instead of writing it down. Maybe I'm a little old school, even though I am on the young end of the millennial generation, by when you are looking at a phone when taking my order I automatically think you are texting or checking social media - it is a very disconnecting experience (something small to complain about but it has a big impact on overall experience).
Very nice place for lunch but if you go, highly recommend getting a booth. Gives you some privacy and away from the noise. Nice place.
Comfortable, noisy. lively lunch spot with great food. Gets really crowded at lunchtime so coming early or coming late is a must.
