Food was horrible. The short rib was tougher than a cheap piece of steak.
Four of us met at Royal Boucherie for a catch-up lunch. It is located in the part of the city is surrounded by many other eating and drinking establishments. One of our party was previously here for lunch and recommended it for our get-together. It was not busy when we arrived with a few people at the bar and some seated in the banquettes. The setting is quite comfortable in a brasserie like atmosphere with wood paneling, tin ceiling, and dim lighting. Our friend reported that during good weather there is outdoor seating on the second level. The pleasant hostess greeted us and guided us to a banquette for seating. Our server brought our menus and left us time to look over the lunch menu. The choices were somewhat limited yet with several innovative and interesting items. I would rather have a smaller menu with fresh ingredients than a tome that makes one wonder how fresh the ingredients could be. I noticed on the menu that they offered a few $2 cocktails paired with an entrée...…..can't beat that! So, instead of asking for my same ol' same ol' Makers Manhattan, I requested their French Martini. It was superb, not too sweet and not tart, wanting me to go back for another. Bloody Marys and Malbec were enjoyed by the others at the table. When we ordered fresh oysters our server saw to it that we received a few extra to be shared. She was professional yet appropriately friendly throughout our visit, readily available when we needed her. Three of us liked the description of the house 'burger served on a brioche bun. Our outsider, sticking to his New Year's diet, went for the shrimp cocktail (and a second Bloody Mary). The burger was prepared as requested, with the ingredients blending together for delightful flavor, accompanied by a plentiful portion of potatoes. No room for dessert, coffee only. We left totally satisfied with our meal and the camaraderie.
Enjoyed the experience. Everything was fine.
Still, app was forgotten and attempt to serve dinner was made instead. Once dinner was served, it seemed it had been waiting for us; cassoulet, burger, and rib dishes were a bit dry. Dessert was good, and coffee was gratis and appreciated, to you make up for the app gaff. But while service was pleasant, it might better be less frazzled. Drinks were slow and never did recieve one round. - I’ll go back once more.
The ambiance is somewhat charming. The food is decent, but overpriced.
Food overview: overly salty! I had to ask for a second cocktail; while my husband wasn’t even asked if he wanted a 2nd. The bench seating was beyond uncomfortable.
The restaurant was decent. You definitely won't walk away saying it was the best meal you ever had. Service was ok. The waitress cleared away drinks and plates prior to us finishing. I won't be rushing back any time soon.
Innovative and tasty takes on classics. I'll be back.
lovely birthday experience for my boyfriend. our entrees were superb and I hope to come back soon!
love this place! best charcuterie and burger in Philadelphia
This is one of our favorites in the Old City. The oysters are superb, the bar is excellent, and the menu always reliably good. Tried the snails for the first time, and they were fantastic. We’ll be back soon.
This was our 2nd time back at Royal Boucherie. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Our only complaint is with portion size. First of all, I had the burger, which was outstanding and came with perfectly cooked fries. No complaint whatsoever with the burger. My wife had salmon, which she said was delicious but on the small side. My wife is not a big eater, so her complaining about portion size is unusual. She ate half my fries after consuming her salmon! Finally, we ordered the cheese plate as a shared appetizer amongst 4 of us. This was tiny and initially served w/ 4 small pieces of sourdough toast. For $18! C'mon, now you're just taking advantage of your customers. It's cheese, we shouldn't have to cut tiny slivers to share. You can do better, RB!
This was an overall great experience. The food, atmosphere, and service were all outstanding. Our server made great suggestions and the food runner accidentally grazed my fork, but replaced it before I even realized.
The brunch food was delicious! Our server was very friendly and the atmosphere was great. Would definitely like to return for dinner or drinks.
Went for NYE at 8pm. Very busy but the staff was hustling. The food was amazing (and was on our previous visit), and the service was great considering how busy it was. Was a very enjoyable NYE dinner.
Absolutely amazing!! Our service and food was outstanding. Will absolutely be returning soon! All of your staff especially Valerie, Skylar, all the other wait staff and your hostess were helpful and lovely. Thank you again for our memorable experience for our New Year’s Eve dinner 🙂
Perfect dinner for New Year’s Eve any night . Definitely coming back
The large charcuterie board was outstanding but the wife and I agreed that the duck frites entree was forgettable. Oh, and the Hemingway cocktail was so bad I sent it back.
Food was amazing. Scallops and cassoulet were to die for. The Tripe A drink was phenomenal. Will definitely be back.
This was our first time dining at Royal Boucherie and it was a treat! We had enjoyed an afternoon at the nearby Liberty Museum and decided to celebrate our anniversary with an early dinner. The food was truly outstanding--creative and authentic. Our server most attentive (but not obsequious at all!) and engaging. The ambience is pleasing--lots of interesting architectural elements--and the options are varied. We look forward to returning soon!
Best burger in Philadelphia!!!! OMG!
First time in the restaurant; great food and overall atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Nice work; continued success!
Great food, great atmosphere the oysters were amazing!
Amazing service, food was cooked and presented amazingly. Overall great experience.
Great food, welcoming staff, great atmosphere
Our brunch was delicious! My husband kept raving about his hamburger. Sooo juicy and flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive. The space was warm and cozy. Will definitely be back. 👍👍
Excellent wine list and loved the steak. Perfectly prepared and so tender
Boucherie is the perfect combination of tasty and comfortable—a neighborhood feel with wonderful food, enveloping ambiance and good food!
My favorite restaurant in the city! Food and staff are always above and beyond expectations. Amazing menu, drinks, and ambiance. Whether you want finer dining or the best burger in the city, you won't be disappointed at Royal. Chef Elmi knocked this one out of the park!
Excellent food in a nice setting. Our service was quick, knowledgeable and friendly. All of our courses were cooked perfectly and left us quite full. My only gripe was how tightly the tables were packed together. It felt a little cramped when the restaurant filled up.
Loved the vibe and the food was delicious! Great bar. The decor is warm, rustic, inviting and true to the theme of the restaurant. My duck frites were perfect! Will go back again soon!
The ambience, the food, and our server were all excellent.
Reliably great French food, cocktails and service. Thank you!
Great atmosphere. Nice menu. Fun to try different things.
Excellent as always.
We had a lovely meal before attending a show. The ambiance was warm and welcoming with flickering candles and twinkling lights reflecting off of the rich mahogany. The host, bartender, and server were all so inviting with their warm greetings. Our server knew every in an out of the menu, was genuinely enthusiastic in delivering her descriptions, and knew what drinks would pair well with our choices. The sloe gin fizz with the egg white was such a creamy treat, and the chicken liver mousse was the best I’ve ever had! We are looking forward to our next visit, and can’t wait to bring friends. Cheers!
Great Meal and service. Beautiful and comfy. Great Lunch!
Our server Sky was personable and helpful, and that's part of getting a great experience.
Never had a bad meal here, and this week was no exception. Everything was delicious, looking forward to coming back!
Our server was very poor. She got 2 meals wrong. She didn’t know they were out of hamburgers & it was a downward spiral from there. Only one meal out of 5 came out & we waited a long time when the second meal came out wrong & was taken back to the kitchen. We still waited for the other 3 meals a long time & when they came out they still brought the same meal that was wrong back to the table. No one was able to explain the issue. The manager did make good on the errors , but it was a horrible experience between the kitchen errors & server.
We waited a while for our server to acknowledge us and even longer to take our order after bringing drinks. We waited well over an hour from coming in to our food arriving. The wait time was only addressed by who seemed to be a manager, with no explaination, other than an apology. When the food did come out, it was not cooked thoroughly and not to order. The toast was basically crust because there was so many large holes in the dough. The only recourse was we were offered was free dessert. When the dessert came, it had a topping (which was not mentioned in the description from the server) that I was alergic to. The food was barely mediocre and extremely over priced. We were so very disappointed in the overall experience, unfortunately we will most likely not return or recommend.
