This restaurant is amazing. I got the burger....which I have gotten before. It is one of the best burgers in the city. The charcuterie board was also outstanding. Highly recommend. 👍🏻👍🏻
The service is wonderful; the restaurant cozy and interesting--and there's great potential there. I'd try it again. The escargot was delicious but my duck was overcooked. I left thinking this is a respectable 8 on a scale of 10. Not quite a 10. But it may have been me. Worth trying.
Server was very sweet and ambiance was exactly what I was looking for! Duck was a little over cooked for my presence but all else was very delicious as well as appetizers! Dessert was also scrumptious!
Food was good --just not great. Typical French fare. The only deviation was an Indian take on the broth for the mussels. Not sure why this restaurant makes the top lists fir Philly.
the scallops were fabulous. the duck & frites was nice. great portions.
Shrimp cocktail, escargot, trout. Very good; not exceptional. Very good cocktails and wine. Liked the ambience very much. Will go back.
One of the best brunches we have had in Philadelphia. Drinks and food were excellent. We will definitely be going back soon. Highly recommend!
Great spot. Wonderful service and creative fare. Will definitely return
RB was excellent. This was our third time dining with them, this time for my wife’s birthday. We went during brunch and had a great one feasting on the seafood tower, charcuterie board, and many cocktails. It was a great way to start the day and the wait staff were very attentive and nice. Never felt rushed and food order was well spaced.
Great spot , food and service. Loved it.
EXCELLENT FRENCH BISTRO FOOD AND ENVIRONMENT LOCATED IN HISTORIC OLD CITY SECTION OF PHILADELPHIA
We love dining at Royal because it's the space that first sets the tone. Exposed original brick and flooring, dating back to the building's origin. Earlier is quieter for dinner before the after work crowd starts coming in and the bar gets filled up. There is a dining room upstairs and a patio in season. All of the dishes we sampled this night were outstanding. From Pork stuffed olives, to PEI oysters, to escargot, to the Steelhead Trout, and the 72 hour Short Rib. Cocktails, both the Happy Hour offering, and one of Royal's current staples on the cocktail menu, did not disappoint. We sat at one of the two tables at the window, so before darkness set in, there was people watching too. Great place in Old City.
Overall, nice restaurant. Possibly the best burger I've had in my life. Great drink list as well.
Great spot for a night out with friends or a date.
Fantastic lunch. The shrimp salad sandwich was excellent.
Great service, great food....I felt like I was back in Paris! Cocktails are fab as well👍🏻
Friday nights are busy in Philadelphia and we had a five person table so the experience was different from previous visits. For the most part the food was excellent--the oysters were fabulous--but one dish did arrive lukewarm and it was a dinner special so it should have been automatic that steak and potatoes are eaten warm if not hot. Service was a little off but for a Friday it was still professional.
I had high hopes but we went for a business lunch and service was slow. Took 40 minutes to get us lunch. Sandwiches came we all got the Jamon, my bread was burnt and overall just not a good sandwich. I did think fries were the bonus but ultimately not great experience for what was a positive business meeting.
Great food & friendly service
Diner with a friend Saturday night, first we loved the wine selection and cocktail menu. Server was very helpful with menu selection so we ordered a pretty decent amount of food. Everything was OK, and over priced with small portions. Front of house rocked this restaurant for sure, might give dining here another shot down the road.
As is common in French restaurants the tables were very close together. Also the restaurant was very loud, so we had to shout to each other to be heard. Our cocktails were very good, as were our glasses of wine. The food overall was extremely salty, across the board. We ended up drinking a lot of water to wash the food down. Through it all our waitress was very good. In the end the salty food and noise will likely keep us from returning
Great place!! Very happy I chose this place to take some friends from out of town too
Great brunch. Cool atmosphere.
All great, just did not realize that the menu was not that expansive.
Our favorite restaurant in the Old City. Great French bistro ambience.
I had the cassoulet. My friend had the mussels. Both were excellent Our server was awesome.
Food was horrible. The short rib was tougher than a cheap piece of steak.
Four of us met at Royal Boucherie for a catch-up lunch. It is located in the part of the city is surrounded by many other eating and drinking establishments. One of our party was previously here for lunch and recommended it for our get-together. It was not busy when we arrived with a few people at the bar and some seated in the banquettes. The setting is quite comfortable in a brasserie like atmosphere with wood paneling, tin ceiling, and dim lighting. Our friend reported that during good weather there is outdoor seating on the second level. The pleasant hostess greeted us and guided us to a banquette for seating. Our server brought our menus and left us time to look over the lunch menu. The choices were somewhat limited yet with several innovative and interesting items. I would rather have a smaller menu with fresh ingredients than a tome that makes one wonder how fresh the ingredients could be. I noticed on the menu that they offered a few $2 cocktails paired with an entrée...…..can't beat that! So, instead of asking for my same ol' same ol' Makers Manhattan, I requested their French Martini. It was superb, not too sweet and not tart, wanting me to go back for another. Bloody Marys and Malbec were enjoyed by the others at the table. When we ordered fresh oysters our server saw to it that we received a few extra to be shared. She was professional yet appropriately friendly throughout our visit, readily available when we needed her. Three of us liked the description of the house 'burger served on a brioche bun. Our outsider, sticking to his New Year's diet, went for the shrimp cocktail (and a second Bloody Mary). The burger was prepared as requested, with the ingredients blending together for delightful flavor, accompanied by a plentiful portion of potatoes. No room for dessert, coffee only. We left totally satisfied with our meal and the camaraderie.
Enjoyed the experience. Everything was fine.
Still, app was forgotten and attempt to serve dinner was made instead. Once dinner was served, it seemed it had been waiting for us; cassoulet, burger, and rib dishes were a bit dry. Dessert was good, and coffee was gratis and appreciated, to you make up for the app gaff. But while service was pleasant, it might better be less frazzled. Drinks were slow and never did recieve one round. - I’ll go back once more.
The ambiance is somewhat charming. The food is decent, but overpriced.
Food overview: overly salty! I had to ask for a second cocktail; while my husband wasn’t even asked if he wanted a 2nd. The bench seating was beyond uncomfortable.
The restaurant was decent. You definitely won't walk away saying it was the best meal you ever had. Service was ok. The waitress cleared away drinks and plates prior to us finishing. I won't be rushing back any time soon.
Innovative and tasty takes on classics. I'll be back.
This was an amazing restaurant for celebrating a special occasion! The ambiance was perfect, low lighting but not too low, and we got a perfect seat! Not too crowded. Food was delicious!!! The charcuterie board is a MUST!! Everything was amazing, expect there was a lot of disconnect with the staff. We had two separate waitresses waiting on us and it was really confusing and even after we told each of them that we were being helped by a different waitress, it continued. But overall an amazing restaurant! Definitely recommend!
lovely birthday experience for my boyfriend. our entrees were superb and I hope to come back soon!
love this place! best charcuterie and burger in Philadelphia
This is one of our favorites in the Old City. The oysters are superb, the bar is excellent, and the menu always reliably good. Tried the snails for the first time, and they were fantastic. We’ll be back soon.
This was our 2nd time back at Royal Boucherie. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Our only complaint is with portion size. First of all, I had the burger, which was outstanding and came with perfectly cooked fries. No complaint whatsoever with the burger. My wife had salmon, which she said was delicious but on the small side. My wife is not a big eater, so her complaining about portion size is unusual. She ate half my fries after consuming her salmon! Finally, we ordered the cheese plate as a shared appetizer amongst 4 of us. This was tiny and initially served w/ 4 small pieces of sourdough toast. For $18! C'mon, now you're just taking advantage of your customers. It's cheese, we shouldn't have to cut tiny slivers to share. You can do better, RB!
This was an overall great experience. The food, atmosphere, and service were all outstanding. Our server made great suggestions and the food runner accidentally grazed my fork, but replaced it before I even realized.
The brunch food was delicious! Our server was very friendly and the atmosphere was great. Would definitely like to return for dinner or drinks.
