Welcome to Roxanne—a brilliant, wild, revolutionary project by chef Alexandra Holt, sparked behind a purple door in South Philly two years ago. Named after her mother, Roxanne is a true labor of love. The vibe is cozy, open, and personal: with an open kitchen, you’re right in the action, catching Alexandra plating each dish and pouring her journey into every detail.

Tables are handcrafted by Alexandra and her mom, the entire space designed with their hands. Roxanne’s menu brings ‘American Expressionism’ to the plate, inspired by Alexandra’s life across 30 countries. Expect fearless flavors—seafood, a burger, caviar, organ meats; there’s nothing off-limits.

Whether you’re here for the tasting menu at reserved tables, exploring the à la carte board, or diving into the bar snacks with a drink, Roxanne is all about big, unapologetic vibes and dishes crafted with passion.

What a delightfully fun, creative experience. We haven’t had anything like it in Philadelphia and can’t wait to come back. The cheesesteak was amazing. The duck was fantastic. I loved my strawberry cocktail and would like to see a more robust wine selection as they continue settling into their new space. Definitely a place to try!

There’s a reason why this restaurant was pretty empty on Friday night and that’s because the food was only so so. Not for picky eaters, the menu was quite limited. On a scale of one to 10 the food was at most a five. Also. The chef needs to learn something about customer service. We arrived about five minutes before opening and they would not let us in to sit down. Also, when my husband who is a very picky eater selected their hamburger as a main course rather than dessert, he was refused . Will never go back again. You shouldn’t either Too many other good restaurants to eat at in Philly.

Excellent second meal at Roxanne. Delicious food. Fun atmosphere, surprising menu. The chef is obviously incredibly talented and creative. Looking forward to our next meal there.

An interesting restaurant with unique and some experimental dishes. Service was attentive and friendly. If you want to experience new and inspirational dishes, you should try this place,

We booked the tasting menu based upon the rave review by Craig LaBan. Perhaps we would have faired better with the regular menu, but we certainly didn’t share his enthusiasm for the meal. The first course, tartar cheese steak, for us, lacked interesting seasoning and just tasted like warm raw chopped meat. The course that was scallops (ceviche-like) and greens tasted so strongly of white vinegar that we had trouble swallowing the scallops—also the heaps of white raw scallops with just some scattered greens looked unappetizing. The “soup”-like course was beans (we liked the beans)floating in an oily broth with a heavy vinegar flavor that we again didn’t find appealing. The duck course was more edible with a lovely sauce, but the slices of duck were dry. The deserts, a raspberry sourbet and a heavy rich chocolate mouse, were the best part of the meal. We still went home hungry. We were excited to try a new place with a novel cuisine right in Queen Village but we had to make popcorn later because we weren’t able to eat very much of the over vinegary meal.

An incredible experience overall, made even more amazing given the restaurant is so new. The flavors and textures were perfect - pairings of kiwi and ground pistachio, steak tartare cheesesteak on a wonderful homemade rye toast with an emulsified, almost foamy cheese sauce and diced cornichons for acid - all of it was fantastic. We did not have a bad bite. The service was also spot on with our server, Doug, providing enthusiastic advice as he waxed poetic over the food. He never steered us wrong, but with cuisine this good I cannot imagine how we could have. The space is interesting as it used to be the Hikaru Japanese Restaurant before turning into a board game place in its most recent iteration. They did a great job of converting it and left plenty of room between the tables so that you don't feel on top of the other guests as some places. We live in the neighborhood and this just became our go-to creative food joint. Can't wait to try the other dishes on the menu. So glad it lived up to the hype around Chef Holt. She has created haute cuisine in the most approachable of ways.
