Rowland's Restaurant at Westglow Resort and Spa

We always enjoy our meal at Rowland and only go on special occasions. They do an excellent job with my husbands allergies. The only downside is ordering after dinner drinks. My husband asked if they could make him an Irish coffee and I asked for coffee with baileys. My drink was a $9 coffee and a $9 shot of baileys. Same as the cost of an appetizer if not more. My husbands Irish coffee totaled to $32. $9 for the coffee $9 for the baileys and $14 for the Jamison. We were so sticker shocked that we didn’t say anything but should have. So a little warning. Ask for cost before ordering a non menu drink.
We've been here several times with mixed results. Keep in mind that we are from one of the country's foodie capitals, so I am picky. The menu is uninspiring and the food is just so-so. I suspect that they have to market their meat and potatoes to the clientele, but I find it uninteresting, no intriguing flavors to rave about and only come because it is a magnificent venue. The porch and view are lovely, service is respectable and the dining room is wonderful for actually being able to have a conversation.
They did a special presentation for my bday!
I BROUGHT A ROWLAND’S GIFT CERTIFICATE AND GAVE TO WAITER. IT TOOK APPROX. 45. MINUTES TO RECEIVE MY COMPLETED BILL. SEEMED TO BE A LOT OF PROBLEMS AT REGISTER?
FOOD VERY GOOD.
WAITER NEW BUT VERY GOOD
Very expensive but well worth it. It’s my second time there in the past four years - I’m not a local. Will definitely come back. My only complaint is that both times I visited the restaurant, with my family of five which includes children, I was sat at the exact same table next to the kitchen. My last visit they could have sat us anywhere as the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived for our long standing (3 weeks) reservation.
Excellent food, service, ambiance. Always exceeds expectations.
The setting in the house is exceptional. The views are spectacular, and the food was great. It felt like we were invited into a private home. Very nice.
My husband and I had a superb evening at Rowland's Restaurant. We were in the area for a very short weekend but had made reservations ahead of the trip. I booked it solely on Trip Advisor recommendations and almost canceled because we were so tired from fly fishing all day. I am so glad we stayed strong and kept the reservation. The setting is unbelievably beautiful and romantic and you are encouraged to take your time and enjoy the beauty. There is a nice selection of liquor and wine and if it matters to you, the stemware is very nice too. The food was well prepared and presented. We had the sea Bass and Salmon entrees and ended with carrot cake. The service from everyone there was impeccable, but friendly and warm. I will definitely be coming back if in the area.
I would recommend with reservations. The surroundings are wonderful, the best in Blowing Rock. The restaurant is beautiful, peaceful with the pianist and views. It is elegant dining with the table settings. But it stops there...the server was inexperienced and not knowledgeable of the offerings. The special was described as pasta with oysters and a mushroom gravy...sounded interesting. It was pasta with oyster mushrooms (no protein) and overpriced at $48.50! Guess we should have asked the price!?! Other members in our party ordered pasta ($22)...bland. Chicken was dry. Wine list is very limited. We were disappointed overall with the service, wine offerings and the unremarkable entrees...just not up to the level of expectations. There are better restaurants in Blowing Rock.
Easter brunch. Everything was perfect.
It’s a beautiful restaurant and the service people were delightful. But the food was sub par. Really not good at all. And prices were high.
We love Rowland's and come here about once per year. This was a wine maker pairing dinner and we weren't disappointed. The company was awesome, service wonderful and food was great. Always a good time at Rowland's and always worth the trip.
All three recent visits at Rowland's were most enjoyable. Please try any of their seafood dishes, as all were impressive.
One of the best fine dining restaurants in the area. Never disappoints. Had the duck and lamb, wonderful. Menu varies.
Great place for a special occasion or a romantic dinner. Arrive just before sunset and have a drink on the back porch to watch the sun setting.
Been there three years in a row for anniversary. Menu limited and hasn’t changed, limited deserts there were three couples there and they ran out of the lemon tart and no one I saw had ordered it?
The special was incredible. What a great place to go for a special occasion. Everything was exceptional.
Extremely disappointed with New Years Eve.
I have eaten there many times and food was always first class. Our group all got different dishes and none were anywhere close to past! We chose Rowland’s even though we had to take a 5pm reservation due to bookings - so disappointed!!!
My wife took me there for my Birthday, it was lovely and we felt welcome and relaxed. We started in the sitting room and had a glass of wine before moving to our table. Felt European style dining. No rush, the table is yours all night. We both loved and appreciated that. Excelente wine selection. Staff manager was professional and offer great recommendations with wine list. Overall we truly enjoyed our time at the Rowland’s restaurant on Dec 23rd 2018 one gem in NC.
Only issue is with signage. We were there on a very dark night & it was very, very difficult to find the entrance & even harder to find the exit—dangerous situation here!
We had a wonderful family dinner here. We were able to catch a beautiful sunset before enjoying handcrafted cocktails in front of a cozy fire. The menu and food was outstanding. Wonderful service from the entire staff - especially Todd and Kara. Would definitely recommend for that special occasion.
My mom, best friend and me decided to treat ourselves to a fine dining experience at the renowned Westglow Spa’s eatery Rowland’s. Here is our experience: I made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner on Open Table more than a month prior. The menu wasn’t posted at the time and we were hoping it would be the seasonal menu. They finally posted it online and it was traditional. Very traditional. Okay. At a restaurant of this caliber I did not expect a buffet. I didn’t see that any where on their website but, I may have missed it. I’m not usually a fan of buffet because my mom is 83 and it means I have to make a plate for and guess what she might like. Luckily, (or not) there weren’t very many options s. And nothing creative or chef-y interpretations. A cafeteria style-large chafing dish-luke warm-dry as sawdust buffet. When we got there there was three pieces of white meat that had been under the hot light for lord knows how long. It looked (and subsequently tasted) like shoe leather. There were some bright spots. The mushroom dressing and corn pudding were delicious. The gravy was also delicious. Everything however, was under seasoned.
After our first pour of wine, the server never poured again. She was quick to remove our plates when we went back for desert (pie was the only option; pumpkin, pecan and apple) (and no ice cream available) she took our silverware but, never came back with more and she disappeared for 20 minutes! I had to track down the silverware and bring it back to the table. I don’t know about you but, I just don’t think I should have to put up with any of this for $75 buffet plus wine. We were all super disappointed.
Excellent food and service
We celebrated a birthday and an anniversary. Everything was perfect!
What a fabulous find in Blowing Rock! The food, the service, the ambience were all outstanding! Our server, Lucy, was charming and delightful and truly added to our overall experience. We will definitely return!
Excellent service and food.
The best lamb I have ever eaten! Exceptional service and delicious food in a gorgeous location.
Amazing experience all overall!!! In addition to the spectacular views outside, the ambiance and food inside left us wanting to come back for more. We will definitely be back!!
Rowlands at West Glow is a quiet beautiful setting with excellent food and service. It is elegant but unpretentious with a very friendly staff.
Great food and incredible service. Highly recommend!
I was very disappointed with their dining experience. My meal which I would rate as poor was the miso Seabass with the forbidden rice and bok choy. There was absolutely no seasoning on the rice or the bok choy. For $45 you expect your meal to at least have some taste and the limited amount of the portion was sad. I guess they bank on the fact that you would use the different salts that are at the table but that is absolutely ridiculous. It was our 30th anniversary and they knew that upon the reservation being made and we were seated at a table on the enclosed patio with everybody and their brother was seated in there and voices carried horribly. There was a table with 3 ladies that had very loud voices. Very dissatisfied with our meal.
Amazing, must have experience!
Best brunch in the High Country!
Wife and I had our 10 year Anniversary Dinner here. Wonderful experience the food was fantastic and the service impeccable. The detailed congratulatory card at the table was a surprise. We will definetely be back the next time we are in the area.
We have dined here several times now and love it! It is one of our favorites.
We requested a table on the patio and were able to experience the true “westglow.” Beautiful setting. Food was lovely as was the wine.
Excellent; very enjoyable experience. Looking forward to another Sunday brunch there.
For the setting, the decor, and the prices, Rowland's gives the impression of being a special dining experience. Unfortunately, it doesn't deliver. Our dishes, from appetizers to entrees lacked flavor, and in one case, a rack of lamb, was undercooked and heavily salted. Overall, a disappointing dining experience.
Everything was terrific. The best restaurant in the high country—Without equal.
