Rowes Wharf Sea Grille - Afternoon Tea
Loved the rose petals and the view. Water was not hot enough, had to ask for milk (not cream). Bit pricey.
This was wonderful! The server was very attentive and polite, the food was fantastic and their tea selection was very diverse!
Had a great experience having afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. Our server, Michael, was excellent, and all of the food was delicious.
Beautiful dining experience - the best "afternoon tea" food I've had yet. We went for my brother's birthday because he wanted to do something "fancy" and Rowes Wharf didn't disappoint. Only caveat - even though the restaurant is on the water, the tea takes place indoors due to the use of VERY nice plateware, so if you wanted to sit outside, book the main restaurant instead!
The food was delicious and the tea was excellent! Service was okay - definitely seemed a bit elitist which I guess I should've expected given the location. One of the bussers was so concerned with fixing my teapot lid that didn't quite fit that he dumped out all my tea and brought back a new pot empty! Definitely a bit weird but likely an isolated occurrence - our server made me a fresh pot right away. We were a bit confused because I'm not sure they understood what vegetarian meant - I think they thought my friend was vegan and didn't give her anything with eggs but also brought several pastries made with cream/other dairy products? Maybe clarifying dietary restrictions with customers and all the servers would be helpful :)
Beautiful location and view. Good value but not great, as it was very expensive and the portions were a bit smaller than I'm used to for afternoon tea. Overall we had a good time!
Awesome - 88 year old mom pre-theater - happy times
The marketed harbor view is underwhelming. Cake selection is good (12 cakes per person if I remember correctly). You can choose one tea out of nine. Overall nice, but nothing special.
They kept us waiting for over 20 minutes before sitting us, then, once bitted, they kept us waiting another 30 min before the server came with the tea. Very overpriced for what they offered
Came here for afternoon tea, food and services were both great!
It was the ultimate treat for a friend's birthday and myself. The service was good and not intrusive, the food was nice and there was a choice of about nine different teas.
My only criticism is that the plain white cups, saucers and plates were somewhat clunky. For an elegant afternoon tea at an establishment like the Boston Harbor Hotel, I expected something a little more refined.
Delicious food that took our dietary restrictions into account, lovely tea, and amazing service from our waiter. Highly enjoyable experience all around. Would definitely go back.
The server and staff were amazing. And the food was yummy and a nice variety of flavors. I will definitely do this again!
The hostess was overwhelmed, tables weren't cleared nor reset efficiently, the food was atrocious and the tea was cold. Platters consisted of reheated bits of stale sandwich material (the egg salad was positively congealed) and brought to mind frozen items from Costco. The sweets were of the same poor quality and all in all it was a sad state of affairs. Our teas went cold in the pots and were underwhelming when warm. A take-away from David's Teas would have been a better choice. Our waiter was pleasant and did his best to serve this faux meal with some pleasantry. Tough job for him. High Tea is an expensive gimmick. No one is really going there to pay $50 for a cup of tea; they want the experience of elegance and grace and maybe a decent bite to eat. Best to find that elsewhere.
Despite having a reservation and there being some empty tables, we waited 30 minutes for them to “set a table” for us. We were told that they were preparing a table in the back corner for us, noting that we had a child with us and that they “wanted him to be comfortable”. Our son is 9 and he has been coming with us to Rowe’s since he was 4, and has been quite comfortable everywhere we have been seated.
The staff is very accommodating for different food restrictions/allergies and allows you to smell the teas before choosing.
Afternoon tea was great! Very professional staff and their selections were lovely! A+
I had requested a window table and the hostess was not able to accommodate my request without significant urging on my part. She presented us with more attitude than was appreciated. The tea food trays were sparse for the price of $50pp. I have had the pleasure of attending several afternoon teas and this was by far the worst for food selection, quantity and size for the price.
Our waiter, Adrien was magnificent, very attentive, courteous, professional and pleasant.
A nice touch was the chef inscribed 'Happy Birthday' in chocolate on our tea tower tray.
To top off the entire experience, I was very surprised to be charged $60 to valet park at the hotel that I just dined at.
I would not recommend this experience for the expense.
Fantastic experience overall. Everything was perfect, from service to atmosphere to food.
Wonderful! Took my mother here for a belated Christmas present. The room was open and airy with a ton of natural light. The service was attentive and gracious and elevated the entire experience to that of a truly special occasion. The food was good but some things were more special and outstanding than others. All around though an excellent and elegant experience and one I'm sure to repeat again soon.
The food and service were excellent, but very tiny portions, especially the tea sandwiches. Definitely overpriced.
Love this place! I originally reserved a table for 3 people. But, later, one more friend decide to come. Base on the restaurants policy, if you want to add one more person, you need to call them before hand. However, the people there kindly accept my request and freshly baked more foods. I enjoyed every moment. Definitely will come again.
Every food item was delectable. My complaint from last time (that you can't take the leaves out of your tea, so it gets more and more bitter) was solved because the server brought me an empty teapot (on request) so I could strain my brewed tea into the empty pot. Therefore the whole pot was delicious from start to finish! I loved my whole afternoon there!
Lovely tea service! It was my first time having tea at here, but won’t be my last. Our waiter was very attentive, without hovering. Beautiful table sprinkled with rose petals for my mother-in-law’s birthday, overlooking the water. Nice tea selection and a tasty assortment of sweet and savory tea snacks.
Great selection on tiers. Everything was yummy, and artful. Loved the tea selection -- had the almond and vanilla. Server was AWESOME, professional, energetic, happy. It was my birthday and the plate came with a birthday wish written in chocolate. We didn't realize there was a great Groupon deal -- have to mention it when making the reservation.
Had a lovely time at afternoon tea! We used a Travel Zoo voucher to get a discount and had such a great time. The server, Adrian, was wonderful. The tea was really romantic with rose petals on the table and a great way to spend an afternoon!
I came to tea with a friend and the Sea Grill knew of my gluten intolerance. I received a call early in the day confirming this, and then arrived to find that all of the tea items—most of which would typically involved gluten-based bread or pastries—had been replaced with gluten-free substitutes. I was so pleased, having expected to pick my way carefully through the goodies. I sincerely hope that this was not a huge burden for the staff, which I have since learned can often be the case. But I am so grateful! What wonderful, careful service. Our server was very kind, too. It’s a beautiful tea, fit for a special occasion, in a great setting overlooking the harbor.
We went for afternoon tea. The food was delicious. They had a sample of the teas you could smell and see before deciding. The restaurant was decorated beautifully and there was a nice view of the water from our table.
Had a very lovely time, want to go again
This was my first Afternoon Tea. Enjoyed every minute. Such a great place for a special occasion.
Great spot for afternoon high tea. My wife and I have been to several other places in Boston. This was so far the best in terms of the view, food, tea and service.
Adrian was our party’s server. He was very pleasant. In the notes section of my reservation I noted we were celebrating my cousin, the bride to be. He initiated conversation related to the wedding with her and made the rest of our afternoon tea very special by making sure everything was to our liking. The ambiance was beautiful (we overlooked the harbor by the window) as was the table setting (it was covered with rose petals). My cousin was very pleased and thought it was a memorable experience overall!
Fantastic service! They went above and beyond on accommodating my dietary restrictions and were very "No big deal about it" which was great, but at the same time took it very seriously. The lightness of the atmosphere was great, a nice change up from the Taj.
I have been here for several times with different people. I like it a lot but the afternoon tea menu is always the same. I would like to try something new, actually.
Pretty nice place for dating
My waiter Jeissen was the most professional and well-mannered server ever!
Boston Harbor Hotel seems like a centuries-old hotel on the waterfront. It captures old-Boston charm without any of the stuffiness. It hands-down has the best afternoon high tea in Boston, both in terms of deliciousness and ambiance. We went there for our daughter's 15th birthday. She was the only one among her friends who had every had high tea and they were all wowed. My husband and I sat nearby--the servers were wonderful to them (and to us) and made it a very special, elegant experience for these almost-adults.
Wonderful presentation; however, I wish they provided a way to remove the tea leaves from the hot water. The hourglass timer was a charming touch, as was the presentation of the lovely tea box, but any true tea lover knows that after the required 3-5 minutes of steeping, tea should be decanted into a separate vessel, or the leaves should be in a removable filter basket! My tea, which started out delicious, continued to get more and more bitter until it was almost undrinkable. They refilled the pot with hot water, and that pot was yummy. The table was strewn with rose petals, which was fabulous. The tower of treats was gorgeous. The scones could have been better; they were not warm and crumbly the way I like. Also, the "clotted cream" was just whipped cream. The place looked beautiful, and it felt like a special occasion, despite my complaints. The price is much higher than in the past, so I would expect the food and drink to be better.
It was a very good meal, and the service was very nice too.
We went to afternoon tea and it was perfect!! Excellent Tea choices - food was delicious... forgot to tell the my daughter is a pescatarian and they catered to her needs!! Great experience, would do it again in a heart beat ❤️
In general, this place doesn’t worth the price. I spent 50, but I got only a few kinds of deserts, which is way less than other afternoon tea restaurants with the same price. Besides, they only offer 9 types of teas... i really want to get my money back
