Try the fried calamari or the saffron rice balls filled with ground beef, peas and mozzarella cheese to start out your meal at Rovino. Choose from dinner entrées like the prosciutto and arugula flatbread or the pasta al sugo. Top off your Italian experience with a cup of specialty coffee and a dessert such as the tiramisu or the cannoli.
Great as always!
Small restaurant with lots of ambiance and character, has amazing food and wine - it never disappoints!!
On our last visit to Rovino, we were greeted with a very delicious glass of sparkling rose in honor of our anniversary. We chose the Carciofi Arrosto for starters. The artichoke was, grilled with a nice crust and had a wonderful flavor of herbs and lemon aioli. For the main course, we both had the chef's special fish which was grilled salmon on a bed of risotto with pine nuts. Both dishes were cooked and flavored to perfection. The wine selection was good and we each enjoyed a couple of glasses of red wine from their Italian wine selection. The service was attentive but not overwhelming. Overall, it was an excellent meal and I highly recommend Rovino.
Nice patio dining.
We had a reservation for 8:30pm and arrived early. We were asked to take a seat at the bar to wait until our table was ready. We were completely fine with this and grabbed a bottle of wine and a cheeseboard while we waited. Unfortunately, no one ever came back to get us or provide an update on our table. Also, the restaurant was so hot that we both got uncomfortable and lost our appetites. We later received a text message stating they were running behind, but my question was, why wouldn't they just come tell us that personally? I didn't have my phone out during our time at the bar and didn't see the message. Overall, it was a really disappointing experience that ended up costing $100 for a bottle of wine and some cheese.
This place is amazing! I had the Pollo + Prosciutto Tortellini, it was so delicious. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The service was extremely attentive as well. Made the whole dining experience great. Highly recommend!
We had a great time at Rovino’s the other night celebrating a Birthday. It’s a great place with fabulous food and service. We plan to go back again!
One of my favorites. Service was excellent—Adam is great—attentive, knowledgeable about the food and has never let us down with his recommendations.
It was so hot inside. Our appetizers were very good. The ribeye needed more salt but was cooked perfectly.
Fabulous food! Wonderful restaurant!
We were attracted to the menu and wine list. Then we met the staff, including the co-owner, Antonia, who all made for a perfect lunch. The menu, with some traditional Italian choices along with innovative modern dishes, had something for everyone in our party.
And the wine list is excellent. On our second visit, we brought along a friend in the UC Davis masters degree program for winemaking. He was duly impressed.
This is going to be a regular for us. Antonia and her funny and professional team make for a great experience.
This was the worst lunch experience I could have imagined. We arrived at 11:45am and only two other diners where seated. We ordered two salads and a flatbread. After 45 minutes, no food had arrived and I asked the waited what was going on. He told me they had only one chef. We waited 5 more minutes and then walked out. The waiter did nothing to try to encourage us to stay. There was clearly no manager on site. I'll never, ever go there again.
Seated 30 mins late which was blamed on Open Tables reservation system. Flat bread and calamari weren’t hot. Hostess said server would bring slice of cake for anniversary but didn’t. Shrimp scampi pasta was a little undercooked but shrimp and sauce delicious. Arugala salad simple but very good. We were comped a beer for the wait and the calamari which was a nice gesture.
We won’t come back because it’s a wine bar that ties up a lot of tables for non-dining customers and the aforementioned issues.
Nice, cozy atmosphere. Good service. Wine Wednesdays 50% off on bottled wines. Only complaint was the Totellini. Way too mushy, not al-dente which is what I would have expected based on the price range they are asking for. Gnocchi was mushy as well, almost to a point there was no texture. The sauce and seasoning was very good however, really liked the taste.
Amazing experience for my girlfriends and I! It reminded us of an NYC eatery as we were on the patio. Awesome recommendations from our server and great food!
Although not a full liquor licensed establishment, we found their selection of wines to bountiful. The Chicken dinner was amazing. Truly San Diego experience.
Came to San Diego for a weekend getaway. Wife and daughters tried Rovino on a previous trip and loved the food. Came back and didn’t disappoint. The food was delicious. The hostess staff was very accommodating and wait staff was attentive. Would definitely come back and recommend.
Outstanding! Highly recommend. Great food, excellent service, good wine. nice ambiance
This has become our go to Place! The food is always great and they are expanding to west village downtown so we will always be able to get in!!!
The food is fantastic
Great happy hr specials pasta tortellini entree is my favorite!
Food and service were both fantastic. The seating was very close to the next table so it seemed a little crowded and loud. However, the food and wine list is worth it.
I travel to SD once a month and one of my brother's families live nearby in Del Mar. We always eat at Rovino.
One of San Diego's greats. Always a pleasure and sure thing for us. Thank you!
Amazing food and wine selection. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We love going here for date night, best place in Little Italy. I recommend the Burrata salad, Cacio e Pepe, and the chicken.
The food was great !!! Met one of the owners . A very nice experience. Can’t wait to go back .
Great food, service & atmosphere. Very small & quaint so make a reservation. Good happy hour - try several of the $5 small plate appetizers. For dinner we had the lamb chops, roasted chicken, tortellini & house wine - all delicous!! Fantastic service - ask for Eli. We loved it so much we went 2x in one week.
We were very excited to try Rovino because of all the great reviews. We ordered the chicken stuffed tortellini and the rotisserie chicken per our servers recommendation. First, we were served bread, which was good but cold. After waiting for around 15 to 20 minutes we found out that they ran out of rotisserie chicken and we could wait 45 minutes for the next batch. We decided to not wait as we had already been there a little over 35 minutes. Instead we ordered the garlic shrimp pasta. When the food arrived we were very disappointed as we could not taste the chicken in the stuffed tortellini and it was covered in basil. The garlic shrimp pasta hardly had any flavor. The shrimps were huge and cooked well, so that was great but the pasta had no taste and was very disappointing. We ordered a bottle of red wine, which was good. I would visit this place again for their wine selection, the atmosphere, the service and to hopefully try the chicken (it did look delicious), but not for the pasta.
We had a fabulous dinner and evening at Rovino. Thanks to all who made it happen. Will definitely be back next time we’re in town!
Eli, our waiter, was very helpful. Food and wine were delicious!
Cannoli was delicious
Food is excellent. I love the Rotisserie chicken and the Arancini. Tom, Antonia and Vince are fabulous hosts. Highly recommend this neighborhood jewel.
Thank you Antonia! You have a lovely restaurant (great food + great wine + great friends = a GREAT time). We will be back!! #thirstythursday #arancini
Forgot about one of our meals...
There is a reason this restaurant has 5 full stars on Yelp...they know food and they know customer service! They're attention to detail with presentation, quality of food, atmosphere and most importantly service. They went out of their way to spoil our group of six after learning we were celebrating a bride-to-be and made us feel extra special. Eddy our server was attentive and anticipated our needs before we even knew what we wanted/needed! The group thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and flavorful Italian cuisine and would recommend for any special occasion or just because! Thank you to the staff for making our last dinner in San Diego over the top memorable!
Excellent food and service. Some of the best Italian food I’ve had.
Noise level can be a bit high but over all great food great service !
Outstanding food and outstanding service. Well worth it!
Very nice place, superior service and good food
