I booked the table at Rovi for Sunday lunch with my boyfriend having loved following Ottolenghi's recipes for a while. On arrival at our booked time the entrance to the restaurant was so busy with people waiting for their tables that we had to wait outside in the rain. The two ladies working on the reception desk were so busy they were not extremely welcoming. The food however was great and we opted for two of the smaller plates for starter followed by two mains and dessert. Would highly recommend the octopus and burrata. It is such a shame that we didn't like the atmosphere of the restaurant which came across more like a busy cafe than a mid-expensive priced restaurant.
Wonderful food, great service, beautiful space. Would recommend!
We arrived a bit early for our seats at the bar, and were directed to a waiting area with menus. However, no one check in with us for about 20 minutes, so we didn’t have a chance to actually order a cocktail as you might expect with this modern waiting arrangement.
Our seats were ready about ten minutes late. Usually not a big deal but it is actually relevant here...
Food was fine, although a recommended dish was sold out for the night. Had to ask for a wine menu.
We were expressly counselled by our waiter to order four items between the two of us and not five. I appreciated the care at first.
After eating our first and second rounds of food, we looked at the menu we had been counselled to keep by our waiter but upon making a decision about ordering another course, someone from the wait staff came up to tell us that the kitchen was closed.
What the hell? You told us to wait and see about ordering more? Also in what world does a kitchen not give out notice that they are closing? We should at a bare minimum not still have food menus if those items are not available. That happens at the sleaziest bar.
It might seem like small issues but it affected our meal in multiple ways. Would we have ordered a bottle of wine? Probably not.
When you’re at a restaurant which encourages tasting, this is part of the decision making process. One of my dish choices would have been different if I knew that I needed to fill up on that course.
We also witnessed many plates of hot food coming out of the kitchen after we were told it was closed, furthering frustrating us. I understand they may have been ordered before us, but no one explained anything to us. And judging by the speed with which our first course arrived, much of the food is prep related and simply assembled for service.
A woman seated beside us was clearly involved in the restaurant and received better service from everyone over the 45 minutes she was there than we did over our whole meal.
Loved the design of the restaurant and the atmosphere was buzzy without being too noisy.
Everything we ordered was delicious. The portions were quite small so you do need to order quite a lot but the whole idea is to taste a variety and share.
The wine is expensive with no house wine as such but the Italian white we ordered was perfect with our food.
The service was excellent and friendly with good advice about the menu.
In the end there were 4 of us rather than the tree we'd booked for and they were able to accommodate us.
we will be back!
Great food and great place !
Delicious brunch, really fantastic service and all in a lovely relaxed, cosy contemporary venue.
Valentine’s Day meal.
Fantastic service throughout and the food was incredible.
Highly recommend a visit.
Can’t wait to go back.
Great service and atmosphere. Food was good, but poor value for money. The burrata and steak were particularly good, but the sauces in general were bland and tasteless (and for £15-20 for a small plate, you expect it to be excellent). However, the wine selection was good and muscat dessert wine was particularly delicious! Overall, great atmosphere and good experience if you’re happy to fork out a bit over the odds.
Very nice restaurant with delicious food and very friendly service.
Great service, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will be back to try the rest of the menu!
Great, innovative food. We went late in the afternoon and even though the restaurant was going to close soon we never felt hurried.
We had a nice lunch here despite going on a very wet weekend when it was quiet. The service was bit hit and miss. We had the set menu but they forgot to bring one of the dishes then took ages to get it and instead of letting us choose which puddings we wanted they brought a random selection of their choice. The food is very good however and great value. We had enough left over for lunch the next day.
We have gf, sf, df diets. This proved difficult. As a result the modified dishes were not tasty, were poor value and we could have no dessert other than fruit. Our Portuguese waiter was very good. My wife and I both then suffered from upset stomachs, which rather surprised us as we are so careful about what we eat. Hope this helps.
Buzzy vibe and slick decor, but the service couldn't really keep up, almost felt like they were in-training. Food is good, but no better, and you have a nagging feeling you are another step towards Otto's next million.
As soon as I knew I would be in London for a few days, I booked dinner. Even though I was on my own, I felt totally welcomed and comfortable. The food is amazing. I loved the meal and the service. Thank you!
It’s hard to have a business meeting squashed between two tables. It’s a bit too tight.
Great as always, first time at the bar, the service was OK but not as good as at a table. The food was perfect, well presented and the flavors just flowed, one of my favorite places to go in London
Great idea of having fermented and nice grilled options as well, but service too rushed.
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere. The staff were very accommodating and we were not rushed.
We felt very comfortable at Rovi - the atmosphere was lively - great decor with lovely flowers and greenery dotted around to help with privacy and ambience.
The food was delicious!
We have wanted to try one of ottolenghi’s restaurants for a while now and it was everything we expected and more, the service was great the staff helpful and knowledgeable and the food was fantastic.
Great service, great breakfast menu and lovely environment in the heart of the West End.
Food that meets all expectations in a vibrant setting
A thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish
Delightful menu I’ve been returning to every dish in my mind since we left. Inspiring vegetables and refreshing touches with the fermented relishes. Happy times.
It was not the first time we visited Rovi. We like the food and the staff. What I did not like this time is that we had to wait standing un in the way of the service for almost 20m waiting for our sits to be ready. They also asked us several times if we wanted to order drinks. We were moving all the time to let people pass, it was not the most confortable place to have glass in my hand. I think in a situation like that it should have been the staff who offer us a drink.
The staff, the food, everything was amazing. We sat at the bar and it was great atmosphere, very attentive, knowledgeable and never rushed. Highly recommend.
The food and ambience in the restaurant was wonderful. I was a solo dinner that night and for the duration, the wait staff was very attentive to my needs and the noise level was low enough that I was able to enjoy some reading during my meal. Everything tasted exquisite and the restaurant decor was beautiful. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! I will be visiting again when I come back to London.
I’ve been several times before but it was particularly busy . One of the sharing plates was forgotten until reminded and the food did not seem as hot as normal . That said it was still delicious . Might be better to go when quieter
Great food and attentive service in a lovely setting
Rovi is my first Ottolenghi restaurant; went with 2 coworkers and ordered 5 small plates and 2 entrees to share - the perfect amount. Our server Juan was really great, showing us ingredients and explaining the menu and recommending a great wine as well. My favorites were the pork chop, prawn crumpet, and octopus.
We were really pleased. The food was exquisite and service (by Fred?) was impeccable.
The food is wonderful. The service very supportive. I will come back.
First time I have been disappointed by Ottolenghi.
Veg side was overcooked, not appetising, pork tough and uninspiring. Will not be returning.
Nice service but found our choices poor. Beetroot, broccoli both ok but not thrilling. Burrett’s with yoghurt and honey had no oomph. Undercooked rhubarb abd not much honey. Didn’t bother to eat much. So Ottolenghi fab that I am this was really boring. Also not a fan of cappuccino in glass and found toast to high.
Easily the best octopus we've ever had; flavor combinations in the dishes are incredible, especially the burrata with rhubarb and tarragon. Delicious meal from appetizers through dessert
As a vegetarian (5 veggies in a party of 7) we were so looking forward to eating at a restaurant which boasts their emphasis on vegetables and also as a fan of Ottolenghi. The emphasis was in fact on salt, almost to the point of inedible. I ordered 3 vegetable dishes; calcot onion - 1 stringy leek cooked in oil & of course salt for £10.50?!?!? Burrata - which was very tasty and artichoke chips which the waitress forgot to put through to the kitchen but I tried my mother's and I wasn't missing anything - just more salt and no other distinguishable flavour. The bill added a whopping 12.5% service charge (not optional) adding £60 to the bill and a further £80 in tax. A massive increase which I would prefer to have included the total on the menu and know upfront what I'm buying. Very disappointing as it was such a special family occasion, at least the water was free.
I have enjoyed, actually loved, eating in all other Ottolenghi’s restaurants in London since the first visit some eight years ago (including a delicious dinner at NOPI two nights prior). I also have all of his cookbooks and frequently use them. Visiting London again (I live in California but used to visit London 4 times a year) for the first time in about four years, I had high expectations for his newest, ROVI. The ambiance is very attractive, our main waiter was pleasant but unfortunately the food was not delicious. The common problem was the excessive oil in all dishes. The multiple layers of flavors common in Ottolenghi’s food was not there either. The two of us shared the (super oily ) calcot onions, the (best dish) artichokes, the octopus (the octopus was good, the sauce flavorful but the chickpeas were unpleasant, again, greasy), the Jerusalem mixed grill and the chocolate fondant pudding. Glad we did not follow the waiter’s recommendations about the number of dishes since we could not have eaten more due to the heavy, oily plates.
Another problem, which only applied to us once: one on the waiters was delivering plates to wrong tables time after time. Especially in times of worldwide epidemic of Coronavirus it seemed very unsanitary to put plates in front of people and then take them away (because that was not their order) and then deliver them to another table.
I will definitely return to NOPI and Ottolenghi restaurants but not ROVI; not necessary to give it another chance in a city full of amazing food. I am very sorry this was the case.
Loved. Great ambiance, wine list, waitstaff, delicious food with abundance of vegetable dishes and perfect amount of meat and fish varieties. All presented in a beautiful way. It was exciting to be there. We had a fantastic experience.
What a feast!!! Well advised concerning my friend's allergy to bell peppers and paprika powder, we chose 4 starters and 2 desserts. All incredibly surprising and tasteful! Sweet people serving us - we had to ask for our glasses to be refilled once or twice. Nice atmosphere, not too noisy although tightly packed rows of tables.
