My daughter and I use to love this restaurant. She and I brunch every Sunday and generally Roux was always one of them. Unfortunately, the last several times that we’ve come the food was below the expectation and the service was more apologizing than correcting the issues. I always leave a tip of 20% or more despite of, but today was the day she and I both decided that we won’t be back. It’s sad because this use to be one of our favorite places to go eat brunch and prepare for our week ahead.
I don't get all the bad to mediocre reviews lately...maybe it's a monkey see, monkey do kind of thing? Because my husband and I finally had a good brunch here in Tampa. We've tried places people recommended to us, some with 4.5 stars or more and all we can think is...seriously? This place lived up to it's better scores. Good food. Good service. Nice atmosphere. All for under $50 with tip. Will definitely recommend it to friends. Finally, a little class. It's the only 'keeper' so far.
Booked with great anticipation for a great dinner... turned out mediocre at best. The chargrilled oysters were the highlight of our night. Downhill from there. First, our petite salad was dry and warm... yuck. Their grouper dish was absolutely flavorless. The wahoo dish had more flavor, but was over cooked and served on top of a bland pile of grits. The filet was actually very good, especially the Worcestershire/chili reduction. . Finished with a shared below average bread pudding.
Should have realized something was amiss when there were only 11 guests in the entire dining room at 7:30.
Won’t be going back.
Prior experiences were better than this visit. The cornbread, which is usually fantastic, was overcooked and hard around the edges. It seemed I could smell a burnt smell. The waiter did not check on us without my calling for him. He also did not remember my serving request, and despite my stating on my reservation, no one wished us a happy 39th anniversary.
Not worth a 30 minute drive. I would recommend it to someone who lives in South Tampa.
Taste of food fair and lukewarm!
The food is excellent if you like Cajun--it is a bit spicy so be warned! Prices are moderate, but we've seen much higher. This was our second visit there. We'll be back!
For the most part, our experience was great! The entrees were delicious! On the other hand, we ordered the Alligator bites as an appetizer and it was clear the frying oil needed to be changed. We would consider going back to this restaurant in the future!
Unfortunately the food doesn't match the decor and vibe of the place. Overall the food was undercooked and under seasoned, the chef needs a refresher course on Cajun cuisine.
We were happy with our dining experience overall. The one issue was the quarter potatoes were undercooked.
certainly...just do not go at 2pm as they are a bit slower at that time on a Sunday
Roux is the place to go if you want freshly prepared seafood. Both the snapper and grouper were fantastic!
The asparagus, however, was not up to par- very "woody" and definitely not properly prepared. Quite a surprise from this restaurant. Our server was wonderful, too.
We had family visiting from out of town and wanted to try something new. Every dish was delicious our waitress Darlene was fabulous and the ambiance was perfect!! We will be back!!
This was my first visit to Roux Tampa. It was just as my friends said it would be. I am planning my next visit.
The place is nice. Food is uniquely Creole and just was a good experience. The bread pudding a la mode was awesome
First time eating at Roux. Food was great but service not good. Brought wrong food item twice. Wine took 15 minutes. Waited 10 minutes for creamer for coffee. Service seemed disjointed Disappointing
Our first visit and we'll definitely be back again. Food was great and in spite of how busy it was, service was good too!
We had friends in from out of town. I had a reservation. We got seated and then basically forgot about. No greeting or acknowledging that we were there. We finally had to tell the hostess no one had stopped by our table. After we finally got a server all was well.
I went to Roux for my birthday with a few friends. We made a reservation and didn’t have to wait at all to be seated. Our server Kristin was super sweet and attentive, and the meal was fantastic. I’ll be back!
Delicious and great customer service
We used to love going to Roux but the last 2 meals that we have had there have been terrible! We gave it approximately a year hiatus and foolishly decided to give it another chance bc we live 2 blocks from there. The ribeye could have been the worst steak that I have ever had! We wanted Roux to be better bc it is a local place in our neighborhood but sadly we will not be returning! Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere!
Food was great, the chef is incredible!!!
There was only 1 waiter & 1 bus boy for the whole place. The food was interesting & good. The service was slow.
left New Orleans two weeks ago and was missing the food. Thought we would try Roux and was not disappointed. WE went for the brunch. Gumbo and crawfish etouffee were great and their spin corn bread was very interesting and tasteful. We will be back for dinner I will try their duck witch sounds good.
Third time here and while the vibe is amazing and the food is pretty great it’s all over priced for what it is. Even the happy hour specials (they are what the food should normally cost).
Me and my wife looked forward to trying this place so what better time than our anniversary. The look and feel of the place was great, service was good. The char grilled oysters are amazing and so is the ribeye. Everything was going well until a large group of people came in very loud, cussing, belligerent, no regard to anyone in the restaurant. No attempt was made to be mindful of the other guests from the staff so we finished out meal and left. Overall the food was fair to good but the price is a tad high.
Great food as usual.. wish you served Datz Bloody Mary the one at brunch was meh
Great vibe - We'd love a location in Downtown St. Pete!
Service was very slow and subpar. Food was just okay but not worth the price.
Sat us at a table by the front door, only table in that hostess room. Very awkward. Our waitress was very nice but extremely slow and forgetful. Food was ok. The crab beignets were very good. Overall it was just awkward and very expensive.
I am from Louisiana. The service was excellent. The cornbread was great but they ran out. Poor planning for Father's Day. The gumbo, lamb chops and fish served was not up to par. I would give the gumbo and fish 2 stars and the lamb chops 3 stars.
The alligator was great.
My husband is Cajun. The food here is as close as it gets to his Opelousas childhood. Try the cream cheese grits!
I ordered the andouille crusted wahoo. Tasted like either vegetable or canola oil, seems to have been put in oil to sear prior to the oil getting hot....which in turn absorbed the oil flavor. Wife’s pork chop was good.
My second time in a week. Their grilled oysters, shrimp and grits and bread pudding all are the best maybe even better than NOLA!
The wait staff were a little off the second night but not enough to deter the meal.
Overall a fun evening but a bit of a mixed experience. Took a long time for initial drinks order to arrive - server tried to get our food order before drinks were even delivered. Least expensive Chardonnay cost $15/glass! Food was mostly good, but everything breaded or deep-fried so not the healthiest of choices available. Chargrilled oysters were good but smothered in parmesan cheese. Gumbo was flavorful but salty. Crab beignets were filling but heavily breaded. Lamb was bland and fatty, probably the least enjoyed of our meals. Panko crusted grouper was OK, but only 1 underdone piece of broccolini and a small piece of fish under the panko, but lots of rice. Bread pudding was huge, even for 2 to split, but a bit dry, could have used a sauce or additional ingredients. The place was decorated in lively fashion and it had a fun vibe. We enjoyed our overall experience with friends, but not sure I would return for the food.
Food was average at best but very overpriced. A cup of gumbo ( a very small cup at that) cost $6 ( they mistakenly charged $9 but I caught the mistake). The crawfish etouffe was also average (I am used to having more crawfish in my crawfish etouffe); the small pieces of bread that came with it was almost like a joke. I was still hungry after eating the small portions of gumbo and etouffe (I am not a big person and usually get full after most meals ,,, e.g. 3 pieces af pizza and I am done. SO, I ordered a muffuletta thinking it would be like the ones I have had in New Orleans. This one was like a ham and cheese sandwich... the signature olive spread was perhaps a tablespoon , hardly noticable. The bill came and 2 items were overcharged. The waitress blamed it on the computer but didn't seem to think it was a big deal as it probably happens frequently. The decor was great and the service was average.
Delicious and creative. Gracious and attentive staff.
Amazing vibe and great service! The food was excellent and it’s an ideal place for a date. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We came here for Tampa's restaurant week and the pre-fixed menu that Roux was offering. The menu included an appetizer, salad/soup course, main and dessert! We both had the chargrilled oysters to start and they arrived hot and covered in toasty parmesean with some grilled bread on the side to soak up any remaining buttery goodness after the oyster was devoured. I had the salad next and my fiance the gumbo. Both were delicious! My main was the grouper which was simply fabulous! It was light and fresh and just melted in your mouth. Dessert was the bread pudding which was served in its own mini cast iron skillet. It was heavenly and sweet with the right amount of gooey center with a crisper outer edge to contrast. Overall a delicious showcase of what Roux has to offer- scrumptious Southern/ Creole cuisine!
I went on a date here and the food was so gross. I felt so wasteful not eating it. Would never recommend.
Great service where we ate at the bar and excellent signature cocktails like the Pink Fairy.
