Excellent cocktails and food! Tempura cauliflower appetizer is amazing!
The server was beyond unprofessional and made continuous rude comments- this reflected heavily in his tip. He also took away our empty pitcher of water and replaced it with an empty one (??) and the drinks were very meh.
Worth a try… pricey for the quality … was expecting just a bit tastier . Love the ambience and selection of drinks
A bit loud but great ambiance and cocktails!
This was our first visit. Excellent cocktail and spirits list. Food was fresh and made to order. Service was excellent. Loved the atmosphere. I will go back again.
Loved this place. The Lobster roll and cheesecake were the best I’ve ever tasted.
Well, the place is somewhat difficult to find at first. The signage doesn't happen until you actually walk right up onto the building. It is a an 8 x5 piece of paper indicating it's location.
The food we ordered was the shrimp and grits (7/10) and jambalaya (8/10), as I was expecting something on the 10/10 level. Meals were just above average for me and my wife.
The cocktails were very nice to look at and a couple were actually very good. I would order the cobbler infused drinks for sure. Drinks are a bit expensive, but I guess the decor and atmosphere must be paid for as well.
Overall, it was an above average experience but I would not return as it was not a SPECIAL experience as I read from other YELP reviews prior to my visit.
Awesome place. I would go again. The food was great and so was the service
Loved the setting and decor of Rough Rider.
We had an issue with a hamburger being too rare for my husband. The buyer was replaced and cooked to his liking
We arrived during happy hour. The kid I was very loud. The volume seems to be better as we left
Old school gentleman’s club feel with delicious good and a myriad of specialty cocktails to chose from. Greta place for happy hour!! Lovely place for a nice dinner.
What a vibrant, exciting venue. Loved the energy. The food: I had the Scallops and and they were melt in your mouth scrumptous. My Forever Young cocktail seemed a little skimpy but was was very good.
The only reason I gave the rating a 3 was because The music was just TOO loud and requests to perhaps turn it down just a notch to our server went unheeded.
Others in my party enjoyed the Burger, Cauliflower, Wedge Salad and Ceviche.
Amazing as always!
Very loud. Not enough GF options. Overpriced drinks. Average food.
We had the best experience. Not sure what to expect, was blowed away. So much fun.
This place is a total VIBE! Love love love! Will be back!
We had a great meal at Rough Rider. Found this on Yelp and liked the way the restaurant looked. So glad we gave it a try. Food was fantastic. My only comment would be that if you prefer a glass of wine when dining out, the list of by the glass wines is short, plenty by the bottle.
With an out of town friend visiting I knew I had to bring them to Rough Rider! We arrived about 4:30 for our reservation and were immediately seated at the bar. We enjoyed a couple of fantastic drinks (mocktails for me and cocktails for my friend) as well as a selection of oysters. Phoebe was great to talk to and we ended our reservation with lots of laughs. I will definitely be adding Rough Rider as one of my go-to restaurants!
Great food and drinks and a super cool place!
Great atmosphere. Tasty food and drinks. Bartender far exceeded our expectations!
Drinks were good. Food good. Deserts were ok. Cake a little dry but will return
The hostess (who had dark hair) was inviting and polite. Our server Jason was attentive and knowledgeable. Food was outstanding, and ambiance was incredible! Definitely worth the visit!
LOVED this place. They were out of the baked Brie, so I guess we will just have to come back sooner than we thought! The charcuterie was an excellent replacement option, and the punches are all delicious. For entrees, my husband had the scallops and I had the Hanger Steak. Both were outstanding. The service was great, and our servers were knowledgeable and attentive. I’d recommend to any history buff or cocktail connoisseur!
Dining experience was great and the atmosphere was amazing
Food was great! Service was subpar. Ambience was excellent as well as the theme. I made reservations through open table for my wife's birthday, and there was no acknowledgment that it was my wife's birthday. Usually when I book through open table, there's usually an acknowledgment of the occasion that we are celebrating from the restaurant. The waitress we had was nice, but wasn't as attentive as we would have liked, and took forever to get our drinks. Lastly, we ordered our appetizer and entrée's at the same time because we weren't sure when the next time our waitress was going to come back around; the entrées came out at the same time as our appetizer. All in all, we enjoyed our experience, but would have appreciated some better hospitality and acknowledgment of our occasion we were celebrating.
Service was excellent. We had a party of two and had to step away to the restroom before the food/drinks were finished (restrooms are located upstairs). With their speed of service, the busser had already cleared the table before our waiter could tell them to wait. They brought out fresh entrées and drinks at no extra charge which was above and beyond.
Great environment, highly recommend.
The food and drinks were fantastic! The baked brie was amazing and the cajun jambalya was fantastic, especially if you add the blackened shrimp!
Very loud but food and service was great!!!
I loved everything about this place. We had the tempura cauliflower to start with and it was excellent. The west coast experience is a must try if you like gin. The special was a red snapper and I cannot recommend it enough. Will definitely go there again.
Bar is opening seating (which is cool/good to know). We made reservations a week ahead and the host tried seating us at the bar… was told reservations are for wherever is open or we can wait 25 minutes for a table… again we made reservations (?) and we had already been waiting for 10-15 minutes at that point. The esthetics is amazing, food is pretty good, cocktails were bomb, hosts need to be better.
I went last night with my friend for the first time for a girls night out. We enjoyed every bit of it. Everything is on 10 from service to atmosphere. We both definitely plan on going back soon. Until next time because they made a rough rider out of me.
We love this place. The food is amazing, the service is excellent and the place looks amazing. The only issue is the noise is diffused enough to it seems loud and difficult to hear at times.
Very cool concept and decor; 20s Speakeasy in a Phoenix basement. Only one of our 4 meals was what we would consider "outstanding"; it was the special, the beef Wellington. Bison burger, shrimp and grits, roasted chicken all passable/ ok/ not bad, but not outstanding. The tempura cauliflower appetizer and the Chicago cheesecake were all very good. The drinks were interesting but very pricey. We could not hear each other or or server without shouting. It would be a much better atmosphere if a bit more mellow and not so loud. Loved the decor and concept, didn't think the food was worth the price. Go for drinks/ happy hour is my rec. Fun, different place for downtown Phoenix.
Everything was perfect! The music may have been a little too loud as my friends and I had trouble hearing each other. Other than that, very good experience.
At first, identifying the location and entrance was precarious.(As it should be with any good speak easy) Upon entering the lobby and passing the elevator we were asked by a nice young gentleman if we were looking for Rough Rider & after confirmation he invited us to follow him into the elevator.
The space itself was not only well decorated and feels transformative; the service and product came together flawlessly and exceeded expectation.
I cannot emphasize enough that the Caesar Salad was not only the best I have ever had, it was also vegetarian as well as the phenomenal cauliflower entree we enjoyed. Alex was a standout behind the bar and Michael not only provided great attitude and service behind the bar, but was in fact turned out to be the kind and helpful man that helped us find our way in.
Everything about the experience was a 10/10 (especially the Treaty of Paris and whiskey selection)
We will not only be back, but be back soon.
This was our first visit and we were very excited. The setting is perfect, music wasn't too loud and seating is comfortable. The drinks were all amazing, we had the chicken and the steak along with some mussels. We were told the chef makes sure to bring in only the best and I can definitely say this was one of the best dining experiences. Already planning on bringing friends.
Terrible experience. Went with another couple to celebrate our birthdays and they cut us off and asked us to leave when we were halfway through our first cocktails and appetizer. We were in no way acting inappropriate and the manager couldn’t tell us anything we did that apparently made us seem like, “we’d already had enough”. I think they just wanted the table for friends or the hostess messed up and sat us somewhere she wasn’t supposed to. We were excited for a new place downtown but now will not be going back.
Such a fun spot! Great service too!
Very cool new place! The atmosphere was great. waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and the food was excellent too. We had the tempura cauliflower, charcuterie board and jambalaya and shrimp and grits. All of it was so good, the charcuterie board was our favorite with some great cheese selections. We also had cocktails which were all very good, my favorite was the From Alice With Love . Would definitely recommend!
Great food, great drinks, amazing vibe! We were in the 'Counter' area which was loud but fun and service was AMAZING. The space is beyond cool--we will definitely be back
Place is dope. Great vibe. Staff was helpful. Cocktails were tasty. The charcuterie board was great. Had the rack of lamb special and it was dynamite.
