The restaurant was suddenly closed for holidays?! No furniture inside.. strange!
We enjoyed a lovely meal with interesting and flavorful dishes. The service was attentive without being obvious or rushed in any way.
Liked that the tables were not on top of each other. The vegetable dinner plate was skimpy for the price.
Great service, lovely decor. Food was solidly good, some dishes were better than others. My salmon crudo was delicious but I found three bones in it. The chicken was great but a little small. The drinks were amazing, highly recommend the kale cocktail.
The focaccia and side of mushrooms were really good. Nice experience overall but a bit pricey
Terrific dinner! We had the venison and reginetti as well as the walu carpaccio and focaccia. All delicious. Service excellent.
This is a superb restaurant.
Every time we dine there it gets better and better.
The menu while brief is always creative and delicious. Their wines by the glass always have some interesting selections.
Couldn’t say enough great things about this place. The chicken breast was best I’ve had, people were all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and it’s an amazing ambiance!
We had our wedding dinner at the "old" Rouge Tomate on the Upper East Side and, for our 5th anniversary, decided to come and celebrate at the new location. It certainly didn't disappoint. Our server, Carolyn, was very friendly and accommodating (vegan and omnivore eating together) and the whole team from the somm to the assistant servers were very warm and welcoming.
It's a fine dining experience that doesn't feel stuffy or old-school, very organic and warm decor.
The food was very tasty and beautifully plated (on very nice plates, too). You will not feel like you've eaten a rock after leaving.
Definitely worth checking out - there's also a bar with a happy hour if you'd like to get a small bite/drink!
This was my second visit to Rouge Tomate in the space of a few weeks. This time, I made sure to get the name of our terrific server: Rafael. He is affable and very knowledgeable about food and wine.
We started with a delicious complimentary salad of heirloom tomatoes, Thai chilis, and ricotta. My friend had the squid ink spaccatelli, which she loved, and I had roasted squab / chanterelle mushroom / spigarello / cherry, which was amazingly tasty. My only quibble was, half a squab? Really? This was literally 4 bites. I can't really eat that much food at one time, so it was fine for me, but I would say, if you are starving don't get the squab unless you also have a starter, and/or dessert.
This time we ordered desserts, a Pavlova with berries for me, and I forget what my friend had. The restaurant also provided some fantastic sorbets, including passionfruit, which is a big favorite of mine.
I would be very happy to make a return visit.
Very beautiful decor. Food was wonderful with beautiful presentation
A Micheline star place can't bring food to the table that is undercook!!!
Nice presentation, and interesting flavors but not to the level of the prices.
Also, they serve all types of wine in the same super small glasses that are more like sherry glasses that wine glasses.
And they even charge for bread and you have to order it! Otherwise you get nothing before your meal arrives. Lacks the level of detail that high-class restaurants deliver. It's like they don't care about pampering the clients. They just serve nice food and that's all.
Brilliant dishes, exceptional wines, perfect service
Excellent bar and great milieu on first floor.
The menu is large enough but still very specific and the food is exceptionally prepared, with excellent vegetarian subtleties if that is to your taste.
Do not waste your money. Tiny portions. Big price tag. Surly hostess.
Disappointed in the food. I like the concept of fresh, healthy seasonal ingredients. The hummus appetizer was tasty. The spaghetti lentil dish was dull/boring. the mushroom side with chickpeas was very salty
I took a good friend here for her birthday on 8/21/. Rouge Tomate is very attractive and cleanly designed, and I chose it because I was told it was not noisy and you could hold a conversation without screaming, in addition to the promise of good food.
Initially I chose the whole-grain reginetti with walnut-nettle pesto, because I love nettles, but the delightful, patient server (sorry I did not get his name, he's a gem) said they didn't have it as it was a little late in the season for that delicious "weed."
So I had the baked einkorn with roasted fennel & artichoke, confit tomato, parmesan, olive.
My friend chose the squid ink spaccatelli with crab, peas, calabrian chili, preserved lemon, and uni bottarga.
What a delicious and interesting combination of flavors and textures in both dishes, beautifully presented.
I mentioned when making the reservation on Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday, and so our server surprised us with a delicious fruit and cream concoction to share.
This is a terrific place and I will definitely be back; everything on the menu looked tempting.
Perfect dining experience for our friend get together. Our waiter was outstanding -helpful and great knowledge of menu. Food was off the charts delicious with just right portion size. Vegan dessert rocked!!!
Second time coming here. Brought a second couple with us for a celebration dinner.
Food was fantastic as before. But was very disappointed and surprised that they would run out of beef already for a 7pm reservation ... kind of expect more from a place of this caliber when the item is a regular menu item.
Excellent food and presentation. The service was great and the drinks were also fantastic! The food was also not too heavy, which was good
It was my boyfriend’s birthday and they took great care of our table. Excellent service. High quality food, very tasty.
The taste of food was okay but expected something more surprisingly.
We went for the restaurant week. The food was good, great flavors and complexity. The wine pairings were very good. The ambiance is quite casual slightly loud conversation level. Our server was not too chatty. We have to wait for a bit between courses. The portion is quite small in my opinion, it is more like a lunch portion so kind of disappointed on that part. I wish they would serve some bread so at least I can soak up all the delicious sauce and get more fulled at the end of the meal.
My daughter and I took advantage of NYC Restaurant Week. The special menu at Tomate Rouge exceeded our expectations.
The artisanal cocktails, oh boy! Ours were tequila-based; highly recommended. Each fish and vegetable dish was light and infused with the delicate and/or complex flavors imparted by local summer gardens.
The desserts, oh boy!
Restaurant week find. Food was superb; every dish was exceptional. Nonalcoholic cocktails available and quite pleasing. Service was attentive and responsive, but never intrusive. We got the feeling that the staff enjoyed working there.
Amazing cocktails and exquisite food!
each dish is incredibly presented and very special in taste and ingredient,
This is no doubt a gem and unique place but needs help with management and service.
We waited 45 min from seating for our first course and Appetizer portion was very small. The wine pairing for the appetizer was poured 30 min before it arrived, while we were still drinking our martini+ glass of wine that we ordered when seated. (It was a riesling and by the time the appetizer arrived, it was warmish)
service was kind but weak throughout evening /uneducated in terms of flow and attention to guest.
Kitchen ran out of main course- we waited over 75 min from the time of ordering until main arrived, it was different fish was advised 5 min before presented without any option to change the dish(without waiting another 20or so min more)' Kitchen apologized by bringing us their heaviest dessert which was nice of them - but we already had ordered 2 desserts and the guest who visits their restaurant is clearly not looking for too much sugar +flour:)))
Service was superb! Food and cocktails were both creative and delicious. Friendly vibe. We will definitely be back.
Stopped by for restaurant week and was very impressed by the quality offered off the restaurant week menu. So much creativity and unexpected flavors in each of the dishes. And love that it's a sustainability-minded restaurant. Will find an opportunity to try their full menu.
We had an exquisite 3-course culinary experience! Great atmosphere, very friendly service and amazing food.
Amazing everything... except, the portions are very very tiny!!! I am not a big person but if you’re spending $120 +tip on dinner for 2 ( no drinks, water only!!), and you need to eat when you get home, something is wrong... Rouge Tomate please take a note of this.
Simply fantastic. Wish I had come here sooner!
Went with 3 friends for dinner. We had a RW menu plus one extra appetizer, two extra main courses and two wine pairings . All the starters were very delicious. The main courses were average. The desserts were good. The wine pairings are smooth. Just the service was a bit slow.
Love this place! Cute restaurant, great service and amazing food :-)
Well deserved Michelin star. Quality ingredients, expert preparation, elegant presentation.
The bartender, David, made this night an amazing experience! We are sure to come back, for the food, but definitely for one of his wonderful cocktails and his great service!
Excellent, modern food in a very special space. Loved it.
It was really good. We went early, and it was very quiet. Great option in Chelsea.
So healthy and tasty!
Went here immediately after the Antique Jewelry show and were suitably impressed with the service, decor and food. From fresh fish to short ribs, everything was done to perfection, including the wine. We’ll be back to this understated gem.
