About Roti Indian Bistro - San Francisco
When brothers Ash and Rajiv Gujral planned a new Indian restaurant, they wanted to create neither an ultra-formal dining room nor a tiny hole in the wall venue. ROTI Indian Bistro marries casual, contemporary styling to classic Indian cuisine. Designer Susan Gujral created a warm, modern space with dramatic color, light and imagery that portrays the rich aesthetic essence of India. The chefs take diners on a culinary tour of India, offering a taste of the North in the Tandoori meat dishes and hints of the South in the vegetarian curries. Fresh breads are available from the tandoor, a mesquite- fired clay oven unique to Indian cooking. Local and organic ingredients blend with traditional Indian spices to create a diverse fresh, menu. ROTI prides itself on the dining experience - at this popular new addition to the vibrant West Portal neighborhood, refined customer service from the attentive staff and fabulous food have established a higher standard of dining for the area.

Roti Indian Bistro - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
We met there for a special birthday celebration for one of our business friends and expected to have great time and decent Indian food. We had great Indian food and great value for the money. It was birthday celebration that we will never forget and now great spot for Indian cuisine.
The food was good as always, maybe even better. We had their special for the month, cauliflower (the whole cauliflower with a wonderful sauce on it and in it), chicken korma (absolutely, my favorite), and my daughter had veg. korma (her favorite), along with garlic naan and rice. Their mango lassi is excellent. The host is the ever genial Pun Kash (sp?), a wonderful kind man. 5 stars. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I love, love, love the murgh makhani (also known as butter chicken). I've introduced friends to Roti and they've returned without me! On our most recent visit, we had just returned from a cruise in Europe and couldn't wait to eat at Roti. Great food, good service.
Roti's is a terrific local restaurant with a pleasant, responsive staff. The food is always very good and the owner and family are very thoughtful and helpful about menu items. My only problem this time was one table of really loud guests who seemed unaware that they were not at a brawl.
This is our favorite Indian restaurant in San Francisco, heck in the Bay Area! Mr. Pankash, the owner, is the nicest man and always ready to tell you anything you want to know about Indian food. We love his Murgh Makani (chicken) and Tandoori Duck, and this restaurant makes the best rice ANYWHERE! Long, Dry, flavorful, perfect every time. Absolutely delicious. But there are so many great things to eat, it's hard to choose. The lentil dishes are superb, as are the nann selections, and skewered meats galore. Wine and beer prices are very fair. Roti should be on everyone's restaurant list!
I'd definitely go back again, but...
While the lunch menu was more limited than I'd expected, we both found items we wanted to try.
My friend, who isn't that fond of Indian, ordered Tikka Masala with rice, which also came with a cucumber/tomato salad--he liked it a lot. I ordered Tikka Masala salad, and the chicken was a bit dry.
Service was great - fast - but maybe because there weren't many people in the restaurant, the waiter appeared more times than we were comfortable, and (the owner? manager?) walked over multiple times to check on us, making it hard to relax.
We take our son and his girlfriend to Roti every few months. This time, my mother was in town so it was 5 of us. I have special medical needs and the owner always goes way out of his way to accommodate my physical and dietary limitations. He's an extremely kind man. In addition, the food is always very good and plentiful. We will continue to come here regularly. It is always a very positive experience, with no negatives. Good food, good people, good energy.
The food had no flavor or texture , ingredients used were not authentic Indian spices or base. I was not satisfied with the meal and would not recommend anyone to the location.
I consider myself a food fanatic and enjoy the richness in having the options to tap into many cultures and there authenticity being on the bay are. I was quite surprised on the outcome seeing Indian food is my favorite.
Didn't eat my food but paid for it and left a nice tip as if I was satisfied.
The wine glasses were not clean, water residue on the glass.
The couches had holes in them and were taped up with pillows covering the obvious.
I can say the waiter was very pleasant and consistent.
