All Positive. We love the new decor , the new menu, the service was wonderful. A nice selection of entrées, a full bar. We will definitely go back.
This group has taken over from some prior failures in this same location. The new group has done a nice job with renovations, much cleaner layout food, service and pricing a good value. I hope they make it as the need to convince the public it truly is a new restaurant.
Great new restaurant in beautiful location. Free valet parking, outstanding service. I had crispy catfish with olives & capers which was very good, could have used a little sauce but excellent. Husband had chicken which he doesn't usually order but also very good. Presentation on both was creative, very cool! Appetizer of Burratta cheese/artisanal toast fantastic. Good wine selection by glass or bottle & interesting cocktails. Fairly limited menu but a couple of good vegetarian options. We'll definitely be back, perhaps regularly!
Brunch was terrific. We started with a spiced pear champagne cocktail- delish! Deciding on a main course was difficult, as there are so many choices. I chose the mushroom toast, with a side of chicken sausage, and ate every bite. My friend chose a dish with poached egg and crispy potatoes, which she said was delicious also. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Being along the river was lovely and the noise level in the restaurant was perfect.
We were thrilled to have a separate room for our large party. It really helped with the noise, but we still had a lovely view. The waitstaff was attentive and pleasant and the food was good. The modern updates of the remodel are perfect. We'll be back.
Had a wonderful Easter Brunch here! The staff was wonderful and the eggs benedict was excellent.
We had a wonderful dining experience. Service was awesome. We went in the evening and it was beautiful on the river. Looking forward to dining on the outdoor deck when the weather warms up. Menu was tasty and creative. Drink menu is impressive.
Went in for Portland Dining Month - service very attentive and on top of all needs. Tempura zucchini was AMAZING! Only disappoint for me was my chicken, which was skin on, was a tad too salty.
Would recommend & will go back again!
Glad to have this place opened again and a good choice. I live in the neighborhood, belong to the spa, and have really wanted this place to be a good place to go and take guests. The setting is so wonderful by the river. I also have done happy hour with good results.
Went here for Portland Dining Month as a group of 4, while a friend was visiting. The place was easy to find, parking was valet. Would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for serene views of the river, peace and quiet to enjoy a drinks whilst snacking on the food. The service staff was absolutely wonderful, and we never felt uncared for nor rushed.
As for the food itself, tried the Ceviche for starters, which was good, but I've had better at other places. Got the Catfish and the hanger steaks. for Entrée. Catfish was well made and tasteful, but the steak was perfectly cooked, but on the saltier side. For dessert, tried the cheesecake and the bread pudding which were both incredible. Overall, this is a place totally worth visiting, and re-visiting.
have wanted to try the venue for a while. handy, with valet parking; nice selection, somewhat leaning toward comfort food [fried catfish] yet with elegant turnings. looking forward to trying out the happy hour. The noise level was actually pretty low, which we really value.
Great place...new chef. Not crowded so I think it’s a new gem waiting to be discovered.
This is one of the few pretty views along a mostly industrial river and it's a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine and have a nice meal and relax and watch birds and trees and dogs and walkers and bicycles pass by. The menu is innovative and the staff are adorable and friendly. Their take on a fried mozzarella stick is incredible: a thin slice of zucchini wrapped around mozzarella and breaded in a delicate and crisp tempura batter. I was very happy with the wines by the glass and my husband liked his cocktails. They also have a patio and, asking for a friend, a dog would be welcome there. The bar has lovely views as well. We'll be back. *Word to the wise: Google Maps doesn't seem to have a clue about how to get here so plot your course before you leave or you may be driving around for a bit trying to find the place to turn.
We chose to go to Rosswood on a double date for Portland Dining Month. It did not disappoint! They provided plenty of options even with the limited menu for PDX Dining Month. The drinks were amazing, the food was fantastic, and the ambiance was excellent. They even cooked my steak how I like it (rare)--which is a rarity (ha! - lame joke). I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and will hopefully return very soon!
Our first experience at Rosswood was fantastic. Wonderful cocktails made by friendly and knowledgeable bar staff, entire meal executed beautifully, attentive waitstaff, lovely chic interior, and a beautiful location and view right on the river.
A friend was in town and we requested a quiet table because I am part deaf. We had a perfect table at corner of dining room with magnificent views across the river. It happened to be March Dining Month in Portland so the dinner was a great value. We shared first course and deserts and each had our own entree. We all agreed that the meal was delicious and that we would be happy to return.
We loved Rosswood. This is exactly the type of restaurant Portland needed. We loved it so much, we went back for brunch the morning after! Excellent food and service.
The service was exceptional from the front door to the water server and everyone in between. Walls of glass overlook the Willamette River. It's bright, modern and clean. The food was presented beautifully. The flavor profiles were on the subtle side... the only suggestion for improvement our group can give is to punch up the flavors.
We dined there as part of Portland Dining Month, and had not heard of it before seeing it in their listings. We were quite pleased with our experience and are hopeful that his incarnation of restaurant makes it in this space. It's views, its food and overall ambiance are lovely, and the effort seems to be there this time to offer good food.......what seemed to be missing with the other tries in that location. SW Portland needs more good restaurants as crossing over to the East side gets harder, and the traffic worse - so those of us on this side of town need more good options like this.
We went to Rosswood on Portland Dining Month and ordered from among the prix fixe specials. All of them were fabulous. As first course, I had the beet salad; my husband and daughter had the zucchini tempura. All three were exquisitely flavored and beautifully presented. Two of us had the hanger steak for entree, and the other had the catfish. All of us were entirely happy with our choices, and again, the attention to presentation was apparent. Our desserts were cheesecake with berry topping, and white and milk chocolate bread pudding with caramel sauce—ummm. We brought our own wine and paid $25 corkage fee. The decaf coffee was also extra, and delicious—worth the additional cost over the prix fixe. Wait staff were universally attentive and very good at their jobs. We asked for and were given a table by the window on a not-busy Wednesday night. The atmosphere there is lovely, looking directly out over the Willamette River and Ross Island with only an occasional dragon boat gliding by.
My husband and I went for Portland Dining Month and the service and food exceeded our expectations. Taylor, our server, was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu! The cocktails were some of the best we’ve ever had (Citron Presse, El Tierra, and the Sly something)! We had the Kitchen Sink and the fried catfish, both fantastic as well as the tempura zucchini and the mushroom toast which we’ve been craving ever since we left. The entire server staff and managers were on top of refills and making sure we enjoyed our experience to the fullest without be uninterrupted during our date. Great options for vegetarians/vegans as well. We will be back!!
I have been to this space when it was many other restaurants, dating back to Rusty Pelican in the 80's. Rosswood is giving it a go and I would love to see this place succeed! I went to dinner with a friend before seeing Hamilton and our food and service was terrific. We will be back!
The theater ended its production too early, so we enjoyed happy hour rather than the planned dinner. A shared opening platter of flat bread and smoked trout boded well for the evening. the 4 of us ordered the burger and fries. The fries were actually quartered baby potatoes- but actually wonderful. The burgers all seem to be cooked less that ordered, but no one complained. 3 wines and 3 beers added to the food and including tip came to $98.00. We had the place to ourselves on a Sunday afternoon, nice table and a great view of the river.
The food ,service and ambience was excellent. My only complaint is my husband’s steak could have been a little warmer. Other than that it was a fabulous experience. We will definitely be back !!
We went for Portland Dining Month. The ambience was awesome, food and presentation was outstanding and service was impeccable. Taylor was our server and he did a great job looking after our needs.
This is the newest replacement for Aquariva. They seem to have gotten off to a good start. Proportions are generous, cocktails are interesting (ice is right), staff is very attentive. The food was good. Nothing wowed me, but this is Portland. It's hard to be impressed. I would say they are a solid choice for finding something everyone will like while enjoying the people and river watching out the wall of windows.
This is a new place in the Aquariva space. The signs still say Aquariva. There is only valet parking but complimentary.
The service was excellent, the food was terrific, and we had a great time.
Staff was very friendly and attentive. We did Portland dining month there and we will definitely come back. We had a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed the dish they ordered which is says a lot. Food presentation. Is outstanding!
Loved the roasted beats & the salmon was excellent! Service was also excellent.
Great service, convenient valet parking, food was very good, and the view of the river was a nice addition also!
Beautiful remodel of the former Aquariva spot. Good food and wonderful service. We’ll be back.
Beautiful space . Overpriced mediocre food. Disappointed !
Our first night at the new Rosswood was in incredible. Beautiful new decor, a serene view from every window, and friendly staff greeted us. Do not forget to order a side of their bread to start...oh my gosh, it's good! Our wait staff were wonderful, professional, and helpful. The food was beautiful, inventive, and right up our foodie alley!! EVERYTHING was delicious!
We will be back soon. It was spectacular, I highly recommend!!
I loved our table with a great view of the river. They had many options for Portland Dining Month and we tried almost all of them. The flavors were great and so was the service.
Delicious food and wonderful service. This was the old Aquariva space. It’s been renovated and revamped. Love the new look. Just wish fir a bit more selection on the menu. Nevertheless we’ll be back.
One last meal before heading home to NY and the new Chef did not disappoint. Allium-free, but packed with fresh flavor. Tender slices of lamb over wild rice and trumpet mushrooms topped with diced Roma tomatoes and orange supremes. Surprising combination.
And the pastry chef couldn’t help herself-delicate cocoa almond pudding and brittle was the perfect last bite of Portland. Thank you Chef, Jels, Jasper, Christian and the attentive staff for taking such good care of me this month.
OMG the salmon was exceptional. Loved loved loved the crispy, salted skin and medium rare, moist flesh. The quinoa was nutty and chewy. The entire meal felt so good for me that my server, Taylor “twisted my arm” with his suggestion that I enjoy dessert. His pick: the bittersweet pots de creme!!! Luscious velvety and DEvine.
After a misty, riverside stroll, I just wanted to warm up. Ordered a plate of those incredible mushrooms which they served with grilled sourdough. Topped it all off with over a pot of Smith’s mint tea. No problem just stopping in for a small plate here. Not only was I treated like a VIP ( spending a lot of time here), but the manager, Marissa sent over a luscious scoop of the banana cream pie ice cream! ( she said she noticed I rarely order dessert.) WOW! When it comes to personalized service, the staff at Rosswood is not monkeying around! .
I simply do not tire of this restaurant. The setting is perfect; a breath away from the edge of the Willamette River with a straight-on view of Mt Hood. The service is friendly and unpretentious, the quality of the ingredients superior, especially the foraged mushrooms which I never tire of.
Tonight, the chef again worked around my allium allergy, reworking the rack of lamb into a satisfying, well-seasoned, and generous plate. The lamb was cooked perfectly and was topped with tender, sautéed local mushrooms. The fingerling potatoes were tender, with crispy skin. Yum. I also enjoyed the background music this evening as the winter sun and mist mingled over the water’s edge. I’m lucky to be staying at the affiliated River’s Edge Hotel & Spa. Tune in for tomorrow’s breakfast report.
