About Rosso Trattoria Italia
ROSSO is an elegantly casual Italian trattoria created by one of the founders of Mr. Friendly's, Gervais & Vine and Solstice Kitchen. The warm, open kitchen features a wood-fired grill and wood-burning oven and the cuisine is simple, rustic and absolutely fantastic. Using local, seasonal products whenever possible, the menu boasts an array of antipasti, fresh pastas, grilled meats and wood-roasted dishes. Their wood-grilled Tuscan Steak Frites is among the best steaks in town and the Chicken Parmesan--an American-Italian classic--sets the standard. The wine list is decidedly Italian with some New World wines with Italian spirit. ROSSO also features a variety of Italian spirits and craft beers, as well. The dining room is rustic, yet modern with rich woods and sleek leather chairs. There are two large communal tables for small groups to get together or for strangers to become friends. Located in Trenholm Plaza, in the heart of Forest Acres, just five minutes from downtown Columbia.

Rosso Trattoria Italia Ratings and Reviews
The service at Rossos has never disappointing us. Our server mad great recommendation and was there enough but not overbearing. He was kind enough to offer a taste of a bottle of wine before I ordered it to make sure I was going to be happy. Cioppino is a favorite dish of mine and this one was good but not overwhelming. My husband really enjoyed the Ragu Bolognese with fresh Pappardelle pasta. The others at our table got the Steak special with mushrooms and each was cooked to perfection. Presentation was beautiful as well. Put this on your list of places to visit soon.
Typically we have wonderful service but our waiter was only ok. He took quite a while to get our wine order and we waited for at least 40 minutes for our entrees. The waiter did say that they were short of help but I would have appreciated being told that either by the manager or before we had waited so long for our food. It's nice to be updated initially.
The mushroom Rizzoto and shrimp scampi were delicious! The server was not very well trained on the wine menu. Because of this my friend Sent back two wine choices that were not very good before settling on one that was enjoyable. Salad prices were high for a few leaves and toppings.
Ambiance and location are very good!
We had a nice birthday dinner for my friend - she loves the CAB ribeye and going to Rosso’s is her first choice. She stared her celebration by enjoying the house special Cosmopolitaliano cocktail We also enjoyed the roasted grapes and olives, and calamari appetizer. We shared the CAB ribeye which was cooked to medium rare perfection, tender juicy and full flavored. We also shared the prosciutto, goat cheese and fig purée topped pizza which is another favorite. For the birthday girl dessert finale was traditional Italian tiramisu with special delivery from Richard., the owner. The service was just the right balance to be attentive and personal from the wait staff and owner. A lovely way to end a well served celebration dinner.
Rosso has an extensive wine list representing Italy, Spain and the US with over 32 varietals offered by the glass. That in itself is great for people who like to try different wines in one sitting without having to commit to an entire bottle . Coming from a family of WA state wine investors it’s always nice to see that there is something for every price point from moderate pricing to a select premium reserve selection.
MY wife and daughter had a late dinner during USC Parents' Week. We all enjoyed our meal, but our waitress struggled and was clearly in no position to be working. Management could have saved her some embarrassment by sending her home. Still, we enjoyed our meal, and we all felt the food lived up to the high ratings this restaurant typically receives.
Wait staff was very unprofessional - almost as if they had been pulled off the street and told they were now waiters and waitresses. Knowledge of menu was dismal, attention was lacking- overall a very mediocre experience. Very much different from prior experiences at Rosso's.
Rosso is a fine dining restaurant without a stuffy feel. Nice table room in most cases. Great bar and wine list to pair with the menu. Staff was attentive, including the owner. I brought some wine from my cellar, and supplemented it with wine from the Rosso list. A reasonable corkage fee was added. Food was timed well and arrived properly prepared. Steaks were high quality, and the side dishes were well thought out and sourced from local farms. Tuna steak was cooked to order correctly, and the veal was melt in your mouth delicious. Desert was spectacular and we accompanied it with limoncello, and a good scotch as a nightcap.
I highly suggest Rosso for wine tastings, business dinners, or just a nice evening meal with friends.
My wife and I were introduced to this fine Italian Restaurant by our daughter. We have enjoyed it since day one. They have excellent food including an open wood burning pizza oven. Their signature cocktails are also a treat. It can get busy and on occasion loud but we would highly recommend for a nice night out.
We love the food. The hostess greeted us with a smile and offered to place us at a two top near the kitchen after she cleaned the table. I asked for a booth and she became a bit frazzled and finally said, "No". Blunt but effective.
We ordered the meat and cheese app. Yum! Now for the sad part.
This trip we ate some fantastic soup and my wife found a half inch piece of sharp hard plastic or glass in her mouth. I thank God she did not swallow it!
We brought this to the waiters attention and he took both of our meals away and offered to get something different. We opted to try a different meal that was very good.
The waiter was apologetic and removed the soup from our bill--which made sense as we had only had a few spoonfuls anyway.
Here is the irritant...no manager/owner/chef stopped by the table to offer apologies on behalf of the restaurant. I find that odd having worked restaurants in the past and being in the "serve customers well" arena for my work now. We did not want anything taken off of the bill, no desire for a free meal, etc. yet odd that none of that was offered.
Will we return...maybe as the food and ambiance are both good.
Some of the menu standards were not quite as good as usual...the red sauce on the chicken Parmesan had too many peppers (sweetish). Also the wine list has gotten more expensive and seems smaller. It's one of our favorites but it might be getting a little too much to be a regular place for us
