Rosebud Prime Ratings and Reviews
The food and service was top-notch. I just don't get why the tables (especially the tables for two) are right on top of each other. One certainly has to limit their conversation to whatever you don't need the people at the tables next to you to hear. For the prices they charge it would be nice to have a bit more of an intimate setting.
I appreciated that they spread the dining room floor. Main level was mostly family parties with children. Second floor were for those more intimate dinners with friends and family. I honestly think i would have preferred to have my dinner at the bar; surprisingly it was warmer there then our table upstairs. Our captain was nice, nothing extravagant, Floor Managers and host were super nice as were our bartenders.
My wife and I were in Chicago for New Years and had this restaurant as a recommendation from our hotel. Excellent food. Staff was attentive and friendly. Wonderful holiday atmosphere. Not inexpensive, but a perfect location for that special occasion or dinner experience.
We had one night in Chicago and chose Rosebud Prime for dinner. The Christmas decorations made it a festive evening, the cocktails were cold and served promptly, and our prime rib meal was cooked nicely and was plentiful. We ordered the BBQ bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer, which were very good but could have used less bbq sauce. Next time we will order without the sauce!
Service was great and we had a leisurely dinner.
Called ahead of time to make sure they had valet parking and could we leave our car there while at HAMILTON play next door. They assured us that would be fine. Got there valet was not there then they took our car we again asked will someone have are car when okay is out. They said we close at 10 but valet will be here with your car when play gets out at 10:15 no problem. Guess what 7 degrees outside restaurant close no valet no car called number on ticket no answer waited 45 min outside. Business next security call someone finally car came. Food was fair prices high not as good as Morton’s or Ruth’s .
So, don’t arrive early for your reservation and ask if you can be seated early!! (Or you get the be right in front of the load piano.) Yeah, host was being a jerk.
The food; large portions, done well, boring, and very expensive (but, the portions were large).
The atmosphere; robust, loud (might have been the piano), bustling and everyone in a hurry. Not conducive to a pleasant relaxing meal.
The servers; very good, knowledgeable, attentive but, if asked, will gladly lead you to the most expensive things on the menu. BUT, why make the female servers wear the ugly, boring tux(ish) suits the male servers wear? It’s just ugly.
Would we return, nope. Was it terrible, nope. The place is so uninspired and mired in the 50s that there must be better places in a foodie town like Chicago. It felt like a throwback to the Mob days of Chicago. Probably not a goal worth pursuing.
Every part of our meal was perfectly prepared. Our waiter, “Captain” Mino, was fantastic! We gave us excellent recommendations for wine and food, he was gracious, accommodating and personable, and even gave us a créme brûlée on the house. My husband hates créme brûlée put he loved this one. Our filets were perfectly cooked and the Oscar preparation was delicate yet decadent. We always visit Rosebud when traveling to Chicago.
The food definitely lived up to expectations. Had the corn chowder, the lump crab cake and the loaded baked potato. It was an early dinner so not too many people when I arrived. The service was excellent- very attentive. Great holiday decor as well. Enjoyed the experience.
Great service and food. Menu is well priced with lots of very good options. We got seated upstairs. Couple of large parties so it was way too loud. We couldn’t even carry on a conversation with out leaning in to the middle of the table. We should have asked tone reseated when we saw the tables were set for large parties. Will definitely go back but won’t sit upstairs again.
A most excellent choice for a place to grab a high-end meal with drinks. I had the Queen sized prime rib and found it to be too much, but lucky me. leftovers. We also shared a dozen oysters but found them to be on the small, although very tasty. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice large high-end meal. Extremely attentive wait staff, but not bothersome.
For all the people working there, it was shocking how spotty the service was. Bread came after the appetizer, entrees took a long time and had to request the check during the meal to get to the theater on time (and our server knew). The bone-in filet was good, but others do it better. Can’t comment on deserts.
We were excited to eat here but our excitement started to dissipate from the time we sat down. It took our waiter 30 minutes to take our cocktail order, and he consistently was slow/late throughout the meal. We weren’t in any hurry, but the meal was so unevenly served it was crazy. Drink orders taken and not delivered. 1/2 entrees came out and waited 10 minutes for the rest of our table’s to come out. The GM tried to make up for the service by pouring water and clearing plates. We won’t be visiting again.
This was our third time dining at Rosebud Prime and there is a reason it is always a must visit when we visit Chicago. The setting is elegant but not stuffy, swanky but accessible and has a kind of 1950s fine dining way and I don't mean that to say that it is outdated but rather it hearkens back to a time when dinner out was an event! Low level (read: flattering) lighting, mirror lined walls, rich colored leather banquettes create an ideal environment to enjoy what I consider to be the best steak in town. The staff is warm, incredibly accommodating, attentive and spot on when it comes to recommendations (we usually start with a cocktail but rely on our server's choice for the wine, based on our dinner order, and have not been steered wrong yet!). The food is heavenly. My husband I have been to dozens of steak houses over the years and this remains at the top of our list even if we have to travel from Boston to enjoy it. I usually order the filet, which is tender like butter! This most recent time they had a Steak Diane special that was melt in your mouth amazing. My husband ate every bit of his Bone in Filet (served theatrically with a flambeed brandied mushroom sauce tableside). I would recommend this to anyone (especially steak lovers) looking for an all around lovely dining experience.
