Rosebud Prime Ratings and Reviews
We were excited to eat here but our excitement started to dissipate from the time we sat down. It took our waiter 30 minutes to take our cocktail order, and he consistently was slow/late throughout the meal. We weren’t in any hurry, but the meal was so unevenly served it was crazy. Drink orders taken and not delivered. 1/2 entrees came out and waited 10 minutes for the rest of our table’s to come out. The GM tried to make up for the service by pouring water and clearing plates. We won’t be visiting again.
First time at Rosebud Prime. Fully unimpressed. We were sat at the first table inside the door and consequently every waiter and patron that walked by bumped my chair.
After waiting 10 minutes for our waiter to ask for our drink order I decided to try their signature Old fashioned drink. Worst I’ve had. Ordered a chop salad to start and the bone in Filet steak. Chop salad was lacking in dressing and the lettuce was starting to brown. The steak, ordered medium was underdone and only like warm.
This restaurant is way way over priced to the quality and service you would expect for over $250 for two people to eat. Will never go back. Complete let down for our romantic dinner.
My husband and I went for our anniversary (which I noted on my rez). It doesn't cost anything to acknowledge and yet no one did. We were seated at a table on the 2nd level which had a lovely view of the room below, but was a tight squeeze. Our server had more tables than she could handle which I don't blame her for. She took a long time to take our orders and when the runner brought the food it sat beside us for a few minutes before she could come over and serve it. It seemed like the runner should have done it. No one could walk by. No one checked on us while we ate. My husband would have had another glass of wine and we would have had dessert, but since the whole meal took so long, we had to skip it to make a show. That said, the food we had (prime rib and filet) was excellent.
We had tickets to a show at the Oriental Theater and we were looking for a restaurant that was close and had good reviews on Yelp. Made a reservation from the Yelp site the day before. We were early at 5pm, but the restaurant was pretty full and had a good atmosphere. As soon as our waiter David got to our table he was all about taking care of us..asking if we were going to a show and what time it started, Offering suggestions on special cocktails and explaining menu items. Since it was early in the evening, we decided to get 3 appetizers to share. Sometimes waiters can loose interest in serving you when you do not order a full meal, but that was not the case here! It was truly a Delight! A little side note...the brussel sprouts are not to be missed!
Poor crust on steak (bone-in ribeye); Requested steak to be cooked as medium rare, but received mostly rare steak. Steak was not cooked evenly (thin band of medium rare steak, followed by large center band of dark red rare steak). The ribeye contained large pockets of non-rendered, sinewy fat (a good one-forth of the steak was inedible).
Do yourself a favor and skip Rosebud in favor of Gibson's, as *they* know how to cook a good steak!
We attended the play Hamilton and we were looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. The service was excellent, food was very good. We were annoyed, however, that the website advertised a fixed price menu for $43 pp and when we asked abt it, we were told it did not exist. Beware of false advertising.
Been here many times but not recently. Have to say, we were disappointed. Tables were extremely packed. Together. Dining room very loud. Service was ...adequate. Our waiter seemed over-burdened. Kitchen was slow. Prime rib sinewy, tough to cut and cool when served. We were disappointed that there were not more realistically sized steak options. When going to the theatre or if you’re not headed straight home or you’re from out of town, and your only options are sizes too big to eat at one meal, it’s wasteful. Not to mention quite expensive. Recently ate at Gibson’s and unfortunately this dining experience didn’t favorably compare.
We had a very hard time finding this restaurant, so we called ahead to let them know we'd be late for our reservation. The person who answered the phone said that it was fine and we would still have a table waiting for us.
When we arrived, the man who greeted us at the door said, "Nobody called to let us know you'd be late. I don't think we can seat you." He then muttered about rude guests showing up late and when we told him we had, indeed, called, he said, "No, it's fine. I found a table upstairs. Next time call. I can't believe you didn't call."
We did call.
They seated us upstairs, and the restaurant was beautiful. There were lights and garlands everywhere.
I have severe food allergies, so I asked if they could accommodate me. They said they could. I ordered asparagus and a plain, medium-done steak. The asparagus was perfect but my steak was a burned brick. I didn't send it back because I was embarrassed, having already been thoroughly shamed by the greeter. I didn't want to cause a scene or make it worse.
I won't be back and I wouldn't suggest this facility to others.
Well, on our round of trying out Chicago steakhouses, Rosebud Prime came up. We were especially excited about this one because it is so close to our home. Despite making a reservation (and noticing that several offerings were still available when we arrived), we were told we needed to wait. 15 minutes later and after a couple of reminders, we were finally seated. The table for 2 was 6 inches from the other tables on each side. So, not much in the way for supporting date night. Overall, service was quite slow. In fact, the table across from us ended up leaving without food because they had not received entrees and needed to make it to a show. Following this event, the server preceded to speak negatively about the theater table to the couple next to us. Lo and behold, the couple next to us also had theater tickets and as they were wanting to leave, became impatient over the amount of time it took to pay. Our server was the same as these other tables, and to top it off he unfortunately has severe halitosis. Fortunately, we were in no hurry, thankfully as our service was also quite slow (even for a steakhouse).
That brings us to food. Solid B. Not the worst steak in the city, but far removed from the best steak around. Cocktails (for which we had to ask to get the menu) are bland and uninteresting. The wine list is average for a steak place. Sides are standard, but lack the "wow" factor you'll get at other places. The actual steak, though, was tasty. Not overly seasoned, so the actual meat flavor comes through and, again, it is solid - not the best and not the worst.
So, if you're in the mood for a steak and are just looking for something easy, close, and solid, Rosebud Prime may be for you. It's not our steak place, though admittedly we did not have the prime rib.
Stay away - this place has slipped dramatically - arrived at 5:20 for a 5:30 reservation - still waiting for food at 7 despite telling them we had a 7:30 show - food finally shows and prime run ($59) was cold and inedible - they comped sides but bill was still over $150 - much better choices in the area.
Rosebud Prime is mine and my husbands favorite places to go before a Broadway show, this time I took my mom before White Christmas. They are always accommodating if going to show after dinner and always ask when greeting you. Service is great every single time and the food is never short of delicious!
The service is some of the best anywhere. Food was timely, perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. Waitress explained how the place works and even shared the off menu items that we could order.
The price is high but for those special occasions it was worth it.
I loved the ambiance . The Christmas decorations are beautiful! Our server was attentive and so very accommodating . We asked for band aids and there was no problem handling our request. The food was delicious and the presentation was spot on. It was a wonderful experience . Thank you!
Chicago has a lot of options for steak. Rosebud is a solid choice that won't disappoint you. The Dearborn location is a convenient walk from many of the hotels. They present a classic Chicago steakhouse experience. Also many seafood options for those so inclined.
Although I've dined here many times for business lunches, I have not been for dinner very often. It was the perfect place before the theater - service was timed very nicely, food was very good and all very convenient to the theater. Our only complaint would be the sides that we had. Every one of them was very dry - not sure if that was intentional or they'd just been over cooked - the rest of the meal was excellent.
We were out for ladies night for dinner before seeing a musical down the street. The service was really considerate and amazingly accommodating. We had a group of us (2) join late and order from the car. Apparently, one of these people ordered from the website instead of off of the menu and they just made it work, wow! On top of that with the ordering timing, it ended up that their meals arrived, just at my late friends arrived at the door. Timing couldn't have been better. And, I'm sure our payment method with partial cash and then splitting among 4 credit cards wasn't easy either. But our server made it seem easy, and we were ready to get our our play with just enough time. We really had a wonderful time. The food was great. I had the special, Risotto with scallops and we shared sides of mashed potatoes and mushrooms among the 5 of us. My friend had one of the fish specials and it was amazing. The seating area is vibrant, but it's nice because you can hear each other, but our neighbor's conversations didn't bother us. Great job.
