RoSal's Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I ate dinner about 5:30 on a Friday night at Rosal's. Everything was fresh and delicious, you could hear the chef pounding the veal for a neighbor's dish. I could taste the fresh lemon and oregano in the Vesuvio potatoes, they melted in your mouth. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, we will be back.
Went here on a recommendation from local acquaintances.
It is a very small establishment. Once you step in, you immediately feel the warmth of a very personal and informal welcome.
This is the sort of restaurant where families come for their regular night out and the staff know everyone in the family by their first names.
The sign put up that says Welcome as guests, Leave as friends, really epitomizes the ethos.
As to the food, it is an extension of that same ethos. Wholesome, authentic and well cooked. There is a good selection (No Pizza though!). What is quite unusual though, is the facility of the diner requesting any favourite dish that isn't on the menu. The quality of food is excellent and the service very relaxed, personal and prompt.
Would recommend this as a lovely family dinner venue, with very good food, in an extremely friendly and welcoming establishment.
RoSals was such a treat! We were there for a birthday celebration for my niece in Pilsen. The ambiance was perfect, transported to Italy. Such refreshing friendly service with the owner popping by to visit..got some pesto tips.....and...the cuisine....WOW...eggplant rollatini, scallops, they'll customize so created shrimp and mushroom pesto. Our new go to spot in Little Italy!
RoSal’s is the best Sicilian food in Chicago. The veal and eggplant dishes have no equals anywhere. The eggplant parmigiana and the veal steppanjohno are the best Italian dishes in Chicago. And the staff treats you like family even if you’ve never been there before. Come hungry, portions are generous and always piping hot!
The only problem with our dinner at RoSal’s was having a hard time deciding what to order - excellent menu choices, a good mix of traditional and modern Italian, but all genuinely Italian. We were in Chicago on business and wanted to eat somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown. This is more of a neighborhood place, where the locals go. Our salad and dinners were fabulous. You can’t go wrong here!
We went to RoSal’s as a group of 5. I chose it because I’d heard good things about the food and that it was supposed to be quiet and cozy. The food was great. Highly recommend the broccoli salad and the chicken scallopini. I got spaghetti meatballs and the sauce and the pasta on my husbands chicken scallopini was so much better. I’d definitely come back and get that again. Service was good. The only downside was the noise. We sat upstairs with a couple of big groups and it was so loud that I couldn’t hear my dinner companions at times. I think downstairs is quieter so that my be worth asking about.
RoSal's did not disappoint. The freshest flavorful Italian! The prices are amazing, the portions are more than generous and the service makes you feel like you are family. My husband and I were in Chicago for a business trip, but made it a late anniversary trip. We flooded in Houston during our anniversary and have been extremely displaced for over a month.
The people of Chicago are some of the nicest and most genuine we have encountered. Including the waitstaff of RoSal's. This is the second time I have been hear in the past two years. I will continue to make it a tradition, when visiting Chicago.
The service bad because they were short staffed. The chef came out to help and he explained it
The upper room was stifling and stuffy.
I asked that they do something about it but they didn't
Later -- as we were paying our bill... the chef said.. Oh.. the circuit breaker was flipped so the thermostat adjusting wasnt helping.
So.. no.. wont be back and wont recommend.
Had we known when we booked this restaurant that it was the weekend of Italian Fest, we would have gone someplace else in Chicago. It was a crazy time on Taylor street that night, but the food was great. RoSal's has an extensive menu that will most likely bring us back for more. The veal piccata was the best I have ever had - adding melting cheese put it over the top. We also ordered a bottle of Chianti which was good - and reasonably priced. Service started out slow but then improved once we got our wine and ordered. I would have given RoSal's 5 stars if they had valet service. Parking 10 blocks away was not great. Get valet service, please!!!
This was my first time at RoSal's and I was excited based on the reviews that I had read prior to making a reservation. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and would be great for girl's night out or date night. The service was excellent and the food was scrumptious! I had the Mussels Di Cozze- New Zealand green-lipped mussels nestled in pasta served in aglio e olio . Delicious! My friend had the Chicken Piccata- Sautéed in a lemon wine sauce with capers & melted provolone cheese, served over pasta and she devoured hers, lol. It was even better the next day as the portion are big enough that I had plenty of leftovers. They made us feel like regulars and weren't trying to rush us out. I will definitely be talking my significant other into going here for date night.
Rosal's is an absolute GEM! The restaurant is quaint and cozy. The staff is amazing. The sizable portions always provide for leftovers the next day which are event tastier the day after! The restaurant is located in a very lovely area of Chicago. It's always a treat to visit this remarkable eatery.
While staying in Chicago, we went to Little Italy to get an authentic Italian meal and were not disappointed. RoSal's was perfect--small and welcoming with an extensive menu of delicious food and a good wine selection. The lasagne was the best ever! Portions were large and so we were able to enjoy the food again the next day!
