Rosa Mexicano - Union Square

I’ve eaten there many many times. We usually have a great time and this time I brought friends who have never been before. We had horrible service, we were sat in a corner at 5:25 in an empty restaurant, we waited 30 minutes for them to even ask what our drink order was and we didn’t get the drinks until after the food came. We never saw the same waiter or waitress twice and had no clue who are actual waiter was. It soiled the whole evening.
Reliably good food -- every time. And, I thoroughly enjoyed the ambience.
overall it was a good experience, pretty good service, cool drinks, the food could be better
our biggest concern was when we just stepped in, we were greeted with chlorine smell ( happened to be the hostess just wiped her table, she cleaned it really good! the smell was just horrible, like we walked into some chemical store - doesn't help the first impression! )
anyway, it worth another try, going to keep this place on my list
It was great as always we will definitely return
Food was dried out and inedible. WAY worse than when we've eaten there before.
Definitely not what it used to be.
Reliably delicious with consistently good service. The table side guacamole never disappoints. 👍🏻
terrible service....server was basically missing more than present.
He acted like he could totally care less about the meal.
The place was freezing.
The table was wobbly.
The decor is dated.
The food was just mediocre at best.
I would not recommend it nor would I go back.
I always enjoy coming to one of the Rosa Mexicano restaurants - great fun!
I've been here at least 5 plus times and every time the food and service was always great, but this time the service was not up to our liking. We had to keep asking people to send our server over. And one time she came over, she touched her hair and a strand of hair fell on my girlfriend plate. Thankfully she was pretty much done with her dinner. But the food was EXCELLENT as usual. Maybe she was having a bad day, not looking for anything in return. I just want her to be more mindful of her service. We gave her the 18% but she definitely would have gotten more if the service was better. However my girlfriends and I still LOVED the food and restaurant. I will definitely return....
Bad service, mediocre food. Had many expectations and walked up quite disappointed
A beautiful evening to dine outside. New menu offering Ceviches...a variety of interesting samplings..fish, mushroom, etc...beautifully presented. Some were quite spicy but delicious. Always enjoy our margaritas, guacamole and sugar donuts. A lovely meal.
Guacamole is great. Fish was not.
Kids birthday, took 25 minutes for cake to be brought out after waiting for dinner to be cleared
We go to the Union Square RM on our birthdays. This time we took two friends for late lunch. Guac was outstanding, as usual. Luncheon menu updated and excellent. Entrees were perfect. Drinks fab. The place is well run. Food is gourmet Mexican. Everything is freshly made. The manager stopped by to ask how we were doing. The waitress was attentive and knowledgable. What more can I say?
You could do so much better just about anywhere else for Mexican food. The service was non existent. The guacamole is good. But the rest of our dinner was so bland and mediocre we didn’t even want to wrap it up. How do you screw up ceviche? Use old scallops that smell like they turned.
Terrible ambiance. Can’t really call it ambiance. So loud and chaotic energy. Not fine dining or even taco stand dining but you’ll pay ALOT for the priveledge.
I never write bad reviews. Never. I always give the server / chef the benefit of the doubt but this was so bad I feel it’s my duty to warn.
Very disappointed! I'll stick with the uptown location
What an AMAZING experience! My friends and I all went to the City to celebrate my engagement and the ambiance when we walked in was so beautiful, warm and fun. The fresh guac was also so good, we are still wondering how we have gone on in life without it all this time. Apart from our entrees which tasted so fresh and authentic, the drinks were spot on, especially the margarita. The best part of my night was when we were greeted by the manager, who was the warmest person I ever met in the City. She offered my table some desserts in celebrating my occasion- tres leches and cheese cake were amazing. I truly felt loved and we were blown away by the food and impeccable service. I would like to give more stars, but 5 is all they have.
The service here is absolutely terrible.
We were seated right away and they were very friendly.
Nice ambience, good for large gatherings or a casual get together with friends. Had reservations and were seated promptly - the restaurant was about half full at the time. Service was good and friendly. The food was very average. The guacamole was good, but $16.50 for essentially one avocado mixed with some spices is not a good value. Had the short ribs, which were good, but again, not exceptional. Other dishes Amongst the party were generally ok. Go for the setting, not the food.
Been before and fun place with decent food but if I am going to be honest they messed up the reservations seating our party separately saying after that there were 2 reservations but I only made 1 thru open table. The frozen margarita should have been served in a margarita glass. Salmon didn’t have flavor but the guacamole was delicious and the corn is also delicious!
Food wasn’t that tasty—just ok. A little too salty and not that flavorful. I got the budin pollo. Guac was pretty good though.
It took forever to get our food and our plates were cold. I saw them sitting on a platter for a while and it seems like someone forgot about the plates. They still served it to us....They came over to apologize later and gave us drinks on the house, which we never got until we waited 45 min before asking someone where they were. Guess they had forgotten about that too. Didn’t even finish the drinks because by that point, it had gotten pretty late and everyone was tired. They also never refilled our water...
Just crazy that they pretty much forgot about us for everything
Good if you’re looking for a not-so-cramped place to grab drinks after work. Not good if you want good food and good service.
We had the worst experience. Just beside us the waighter seated 2 very drunken ladies who acted very badly. Throwing glasses, food etc.
Despite of that the food was almost cold.
Would not go there again.
Way overpriced. The skirt steak was burnt. Service was good but I didn’t go there for the service. Food is the most important thing and this place is horrible
We celebrate two of my friends birthday, got the bottomless brunch- great food as usual as well as great drinks and service! Definitely recommend it!
Unable to accommodate my request. I asked to substitute the mushroom quesadilla for chicken quesadilla and the server said this is not possible. I have had chicken quesadilla at Rosa Mexicano countless times....
Excellent Mexican food in a very family friendly setting. Prices are reasonable and the service is friendly and attentive.
Basically one of the best places to have a great lunch, dinner or drinks. Tableside Guacamole is a must have, the selection of apps is simple and delicious, they now have street tacos which are great for a light dinner. Their selection of regional entrees will not disappoint with a good variety of choices. I chose the Pork Shank which can best be described as a delicious succulent piece if pig it did not disappoint. What I suggest is asking your server to pair your meal with their huge selection of tequilas.
If you don't drink your tequila on the rocks I suggest one of the dozen or so specialty drinks on the menu. The deserts menu is small however if you want to go into a chocolate coma go for the Mexican Truffle.
In 15yrs I have not had a bad server or a bad meal at Rosa Mexicano, I've been to a lot of places but here you will be treated well and be satisfied.
My friend and I always enjoying meeting here for dinner. The food was good, the sangria was good and the service was excellent. We didn't feel rushed to leave so had a lovely evening together.
Menu order was fine. But we asked for a special order (simple enchiladas) and what we got was insulting.
The ambiance was perfect for all types of occasions - date nights, family dinners, girls nights out, work happy hours. The food was delicious and the drinks were tasty and authentic. The service was also great. Our server was very knowledgeable about the drink menu and able to suggest certain drinks based on our favorite flavors. I'm definitely returning!
A really tasty place! We love the manager, Edson!
Food was excellent. I found the music to be to loud. I would have liked a little more relaxing music not fast techno mexican music. Soft Mexican would have been more relaxing.
Service was great. Great drinks atmosphere is very pretty
Maybe because it was the holiday weekend that the service was awful. It wasn’t even busy and they messed up our order.
Exceptional selection, subtle tastes, way above typical Mexican fare. Wish I lived in NYC to enjoy frequently.
Brunch and unlimited drinks are always wonderful! The ambiance is always outstanding
The service was very attentive. As always the guacamole was great and the main dish was interesting.
The restaurant itself is attractive, bright and roomy, offering more privacy than is sometimes available in NYC restaurants. This is the third Rosa Mexicano I have visited and has moved to the top of my list.
