Rosa Mexicano - Union Square
Book your next event with us
Rosa Mexicano tries hard to differentiate itself from a regular Mexican restaurant by offering its customers a beautiful and well put together plate. They use great quality products and do their best to give an authnetic Meixcna flavor.
Saturday night fever. Crowdy, noisy, bookings all behind. Food was great but margaritas disappointed
Excellent menu and cocktails, loved our waiter Jordan, he really went out of his way to make our dinner and drinks special with great recommendations!
Great vegetarian options.
The vibe here is friendly, young and welcoming. I hosted a small birthday party for my 30-something year old son and guests and everyone had a fun time. My only criticism is the food--it's the same old, same old. We've been coming to this neighborhood restaurant for years and the menu never seems to change. I guess that's not the point of a neighborhood fave that has other outlets around the city-- consistency is important, I guess, but it's a shame because in every other area, RM maintains high standards. I'm still going to return, however.....those dreamy pomegranate margheritas!!
I had an enjoyable dinner with a friend here recently. The sangria and guacomole were great, our entrees were fine, and churros for dessert delicious. Our waiter was excellent and we weren't pressured to leave. Althugh the noise level is pretty high, Rosa Mexicano is a good place for dinner with friends.
The restaurant seated us late and the food has gone down in quality.
Good food and great service! Nice bar too! Had fun!!
I've been going to Rosa Mexicano for years but the quality quality of the food is just meh. It's borderline bland. No longer beans with your rice anymore. Just beans mashed into a paste. If it really is even beans?
You used to be able to taste the flavor and spices. This place is good for those people who think they're getting authentic Mexican food. For those of us who know better we'll be going elsewhere.
Ok Mexican food if you are not from California or Mexico. Good menu, good service. Good family restaurant.
Food was great - as ever. Lovely guacamole handmade at table.
Service was poor and slow. Waitress was sweet but overwhelmed. The children had finished eating before the grownups were served....hard to get the attention of servers. That said, it was a cheerful place for a family outing. The children had lots to look at and enjoy. They gave me that to wear for my birthday photo.
Great for a casual family outing.
Estuvimos muy bien atendidos por el camarero que se ocupaba de nuestra mesa. El guacamole, sencillamente magnífico.
As always, terrific food and very friendly table service. Unfortunately this was the second time in the past month that I’ve found the hosts to be actively unfriendly and unhelpful. Not putting your best foot forward, Rosa Mexicano.
I have not been to Rosa Mexicano's in about 10 years. The prime feature is still the guacamole made to order at table side. The guacamole was excellent, although since there were only two of us I would have liked to have seen a 1/2 portion option on the menu. The full appetizer portion is too much for two people. A noticeable change since I'd last been there -- quite a few small children with their parents. Perhaps that was because it was New Year's Day. My husband had a chicken quesadilla and he enjoyed it. I had the salmon over kale salad. The salmon was a fine, but the salad was quite salty and I would have eliminated the fried tortilla chips which were on top.
We celebrate NYE countdown here every year. Everything was perfect last year but very disappointed this time. We had 10:15pm reservation. They brought first two appetizers so quickly that we felt we were rushed to finish. So we told the waiter, please do not bring the main until we finish the appetizers. After we were done, we had to wait "45 minutes" to get our main dish. Then as soon as we finish the main, the waiter told us the kitchen would close so we had to order the dessert now. We saw there were other tables just receiving the main dishes. There were a lot of empty tables this year so probably employees wanted to go home early. However, they should be professional to keep the good dining experience for the customers especially special day like this. Very very disappointed!
Excellent food at a reasonable price. Excellent service by Amari.
Pomegranate margaritas are awesome
As soon as we sat down our table was so lopsided we were trying to fix that while our server kept walking by us tending to his other customers. Finally my boyfriend had to flag him down just to get his attention. This can’t be the experience at a restaurant of this quality. It just can’t.
One of the worse dinner in years. Noisy bar, way too slow service, apart from guacamole everything else was very low quality cold and dry food. Not worth at all
I love Rosa Mexicano. The frozen pomegranate margaritas are seriously to die for.
Service at the bar was slow and disorganized. We waited half an hour for the order of guacamole. They had to bring it to the table because it was time to get seated for dinner. Had one cocktail while waiting for our meal. It took them one hour to bring the dinner to the table. By then the food was cold. The rice in my dish was hard. They didn’t bring steak knives until after we had already started eating our meal. Waitress was very apologetic about all the inconveniences. We have been coming to this restaurant since their opening days. It is a shame to experience how deteriorated the service is now and the mediocre quality of the food they serve. We don’t think we will be back.
After having many excellent experiences at Rosa Mexicana, my recent visit just wasn't up to par. The food was delicious, as always, but the service was just terrible.
We started by ordering 2 appetizers (Guac and Queso with chorizo) and a round of drinks. The guac was made immediately table side. Drinks came in a reasonable amount of time - but the Quest never came, nor did our waiter come by to see how we were doing. 25-30m later, we flagged him down and asked if we were going to get our queso and he acted like he had no clue we ordered it. Fine, we re-ordered it and asked for a refill on our chips. The queso came about 5 minutes later, but still no chips. We asked for them again and finally got them.
We ate our queso. Finished the guac. Finished the chip refill... and still no waiter to come take our dinner order. No exaggeration, it was over 30m between the time we finished our queso and when we finally were able to put in our entree order. At no time during that interval did our waiter come by to see if we could use a drink, ask how our appetizers were, clear out dirty dishes, nothing.
But he finally came by and took our order. The food was excellent. He did swing by a few minutes in to make sure our entrees were satisfactory, but after that, it was another 30m+ until we flagged him down again to take empty dishes and we told him then we needed our bill because we didn't want him to disappear again.
We were sat at 8:15 - 15m early for our 8:30 reservation, and we didn't end up leaving until 10:45 and that was completely due to totally inattentive service.
Not a great experience. Not a typical experience at Rosa Mexicana by any means, but it just shouldn't have gone down like this.
What a meal!!! My guest are still talking about how scrumptious the food was and how warm and wonderful the service was.
Good place for a quick drink or a big dinner. Food was great! I highly recommend!!
Delicious as usual!
Really nice food and atmosphere!!!
Service was great. A bit disappointed about the food. Quesadilla with little queso, guacamole with too much cilantro, enchilada drowning in tomato sauce. Shall I give it another try? I’ll think about it.
Besides a little bit of confusion during check-in, our experience was very good. The waitstaff were prompt and fun, the food was delicious and definitely worth the pricing, and the ambiance of the restaurant was fun and festive!
Family holiday visit to NYC
Food & atmosphere is always amazing, unfortunately this visit our waiter seemed like he didn't want to answer our questions and just had negative body language/attitude any time we asked him something.
Personale molto solare, preparazione della salsa guacamole a vista molto scenica, piatti gluten free. Locale molto bello.
Rosa Mexicano is always a winner! The food is delicious and fresh. You must order the guacamole! It is so good and they make it at your table to your liking (not hot or super hot...however you want!). Everything is good and although not cheap, you definitely get your money's worth since the portions are ample. There was a super nice host this last visit who was friendly and festive. The waiter was also attentive and fun.
You can't go wrong here. We didn't have drinks this time but the drinks are really good!
It’s a nice place but expect your reservation to be running a little late. Took us an extra 25 minutes to sit down but we just grabbed a drink at the bar. Good guacamole
Even though it was fairly empty, took a long time to get our meal and the first time it was not our order.
Great food and service.
We asked for the nachos with carnitas instead of chicken and they were delicious. Unique presentation.
Horrible service. Waiter disappeared and the orders were all wrong.
Guac was the only good thing. Every other item was not worth the price, very sub par. Not authentic food at all, tacos were gross. Pitchers were over priced, no alcohol in them $86!
The food (especially the beef) was undercooked, and the service - while polite - was inattentive and very slow. Quite a disappointing experience in a restaurant that I frequent and like.
I have been going to Rosa since the early 90’s (Sutton Place) and last couple of years at the one in Lincoln Ctr. The food was just awful at Union Sq....right down to the churros. Like pre-cooked/thawed food. My husband and I were embarrassed towards our guests.
Wish you can reimburse us.
