About Rosa Mexicano - Union Square
Just blocks away from Manhattan’s lively Union Square, our third New York location provides a warm and vibrant setting for our award-winning authentic Mexican cuisine. Designed by David Rockwell, the restaurant features architectural accents inspired by the late, famed Mexican architect, Luis Barragan. The internally illuminated electric-blue tiled water wall features cliff diver figurines and candles among the cascading water to separate the bar from the main dining room. Warm terracotta and yellow colors with hot pink accents are featured throughout the restaurant as well as traditional, one-of-a-kind Mexican crafts, fabrics and artwork. This combination creates the perfect backdrop for the festive atmosphere and innovative Mexican cuisine of Rosa Mexicano.

Rosa Mexicano - Union Square Ratings and Reviews
Came here for a special occasion of one of my friends. We were looking forward to a quality meal at a reasonable price. The waitress pushed the quacamole dip (made at your table) in the large size given our 4 hungry dinner companions, however for the amount of actual guacamole, realize that you are paying a whopping $30 for this meager amount of dip. Of the 4 at our table, half of them ordered the tres enchilada plate - Not exceptionally exciting, but decent. Kinda miss some of the truly special entrees like the short ribs cooked in paper. Might be looking for (yet) another alternative next time when in the mood for Mexican.
My friend and I ordered everything to share but I think we would’ve been better off just ordering our own dishes because the servings are not too generous. We ordered the sopa de tortilla for starters which was okay, the presentation was nice but the soup was too dense. The ceviche was really good. We also ordered the trio of enchiladas and I really enjoyed the mole one. It was very authentic and tasted exactly like the one from Mexico. I highly recommend the platanos. The side of rice and beans was a bit unnecessary and we ended but not even eating much of it as the rice was very hard and the beans were cold. The worst part of this experience was the drinks. I ordered a frozen tropical with the mango flavor but did not enjoy it at all. The mango syrup tasted expired and the drink was very watery even though it was supposed to be a frozen. By the time our entrees arrived, the drink was mostly watery with large chunks of ice. I ended up with a very bad stomach ache that night and an even worse one the next day. Our waiter was nothing short of great. He was very nice and was never overbearing.
I have been to this Rosa Mexicano many times and have been coming for years. As usual, everything was excellent. My only qualm was with the “joint owner.” We were seated at the bar area with friends waiting for our reservation and enjoying cocktails and chips. A worker came over to bring more cocktails and I politely asked if we could have some more chips. She replied, snarkily, “Well, I’m the joint owner. So I’ll get a cocktail waitress to bring you more chips.” I thought this was extremely rude and uncalled for - especially since I have friends who own restaurants in NYC and nothing is beneath them! This kind of put a damper on what is usually a very pleasant experience. I will rethink next time.
Very pleasant evening with very good service and ambiance. There were several GF options and the guacamole was excellent. Wished there were more common Mexican options like a simple taco, but overall the quality was very good. Price was a little high however for Mexican, NYC prices aside.
We got seated right away which as great as I was expecting at least 20 minutes wait. Ordered the spicy guacamole as an appetizer and it was not seasoned at all so that was a disappointment as Rosa Mexicano known for its guacamole. Ordered of the kids menu for my 7 year old and the food was ice cold. My dish, carnitas, was ok though temperature wise. The waiters/servants were nasty and slammed plates as the brought food out. Probably was the first and last attempt to go here.
Went early for brunch when it wasn't crowded. Waiter was very attentive.
Food had a nice twist to it, and we enjoyed the french toast and huevos josephina. Free corn bread was very good. Free chips and salsa were OK (we don't like spicy salsa, but this was too bland.)Sangria was very good. We'll be back.
We have been to Rosa's many mnay times. However this time the food was simply horrible. While the guacamole and margaritas were excellent as usual, everything else we ate was terrible. THe fish tacos were leaden, the tortilla soup was tasteless, the cesear salad was a a rip-off of a little lettuce and fixings and more plate than greenery.
Low grade Mexican food in a fun vibrant setting. I really did not enjoy the food and the service was not that great either. Other Rosa's I've visited had much better food (Washington DC and VA) so no plans to come back. There is much much better food to have in NYC.
