About Rosa Mexicano - Union Square
Just blocks away from Manhattan’s lively Union Square, our third New York location provides a warm and vibrant setting for our award-winning authentic Mexican cuisine. Designed by David Rockwell, the restaurant features architectural accents inspired by the late, famed Mexican architect, Luis Barragan. The internally illuminated electric-blue tiled water wall features cliff diver figurines and candles among the cascading water to separate the bar from the main dining room. Warm terracotta and yellow colors with hot pink accents are featured throughout the restaurant as well as traditional, one-of-a-kind Mexican crafts, fabrics and artwork. This combination creates the perfect backdrop for the festive atmosphere and innovative Mexican cuisine of Rosa Mexicano.

Rosa Mexicano - Union Square Ratings and Reviews
Our family has enjoyed eating at all the Rosa Mexicanos in NYC since the year 2000. We have returned to the various locations time and again for family gatherings, to entertain out of town guests, and ordering online for delivery from the Rosa at Lincoln Square... My husband and I made a rez to go to the Rosa on E 18 this evening for a dinner out. We ordered the cheese enchiladas and shrimp quesadillas. The food was cold when it came out and there wasnt any care in the prep of it. I wondered if the plates had been prepared ahead of time and delivered to our table as part of an assembly line of plates that had already been assembled, ready and waiting. A Very disappointing meal that was cold and had no flavor. We wont be back any time soon.
Restaurant is large and great atmosphere. Went on a Wednesday night and the place had a crowd during the dinner. If you love Mexican food, this is a great place. Unfortunately it's not mine. Had ceviche (starter) , fish (entree) and churros (dessert). The ceviche had a good size and quantity. The fish entree was a little tough (was a cod fish) . Only loved the Churros with the chocolate sauce. It comes with chocolate and raspberry sauces. Raspberry was a bit too tart. They did have a $45 prix fixe menu for the day of the dead which my companions opted for.
Really good food and drinks, excellent and super friendly service (as soon as we were greeted by the hostess). We were a somewhat boisterous party of 5 and our server Joaquin couldn't have been nicer and understanding of our fun mood. Even the gentleman who prepared our guacamole was friendly and fun. We had a great time.
The food was excellent, especially the guacamole, and the staff were so attentive and lovely. We were there for my sister's birthday. They overheard it was her birthday and after the meal was over surprised us by placing a big sombrero on her head and giving her birthday ice cream. A lovely and surprising touch!
DON'T GET THE GUACAMOLE BAR! We were there on Saturday night at 6:15p. The restaurant was not crowded. The waiter asked if we wanted guacamole and we said yes. The guy who makes guacamole brought the cart to our table and left. Thirty minutes later he came back. But then a waitress showed up and he made guacamole for her and we waited another 15 minutes. When we got the guacamole, it wasn't very good. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
We have visited Rosa Mexicano many times in the past, usually the one at Columbus Circle. (I have to add that my daughter is a Spanish major and says "Rosa Mexicano" is a gender mismatch; it should be Rosa Mexicana. Who knows?)This is the second time we've visited this location and we think we like it more than the Columbus Circle location. The space has a much more open and airy feeling to it and the neighborhood itself is charming. Having a working fire station right across the street adds a little spice to the whole experience too. The food and drink are every bit as good as the Columbus Circle location. You cannot visit without having the table-side guacamole. I don't know if it tastes so good because it is so good or because you watch it being made but I guarantee you will love it. The service we've had at both locations is always top rate. The servers know the menu well, know the ingredients of the food and drink well, and won't hesitate to recommend things to you based on your request. My personal favorite beverage is their homemade red sangria. They add something like brandy and peach schnapps to the wine and fruit juice and it makes it very authentic and appropriately alcoholic. No matter what we order, the food is always top notch. I had the Pollo Adobado this time and it was excellent and way too much for me to finish. Others at my table similarly loved their food.
The food is great,my only complaint was that I had requested a reservation for a birthday and it was not specified when we arrived. Therefore, I had to go over to my waiter, explain what was supposed to be arranged, and was rudely and unprofessionally handled by him.He rudely told me I had to purchase a dessert in order to go forward with the birthday ordeal, then he charged me the wrong tab in which I had to receive a credit for before I was charged the correct amount.
The restaurant was beautiful. The host were very professional and sweet. We were there for a birthday celebration. Dinner reservation was for 5:30PM. We got there and happy hour was in full swing till 7PM. We were surprised and quite put off that you are only allowed happy hour prices at the bar. Especially since we were sat feet away from bar. Would I come here again, maybe but next time I would only go to the bar. I have gone to other places were they still offer the happy hour at the table. It is all under the same roof so it looks like the restaurant cares more about their pockets and not the customers.
Rosa became our ritual every time we visit NYC. Love the food, the restaurant and the service. The guac is life! It's definitely the money maker, but you have to have it every time. The fact that it's made table-side adds a nice touch. If only it was bigger for $15. Had the Quesadilla de Camarones which was so delicious and cheesy, can't go wrong with cheese. My fiancé is obsessed with the Tres Enchiladas. Javier was our server and he was great. We've gone to this location and the First Ave many times, different vibes, but both great. First ave feels more like you're in Mexico as it's lowkey traditional and homey but all decorated with Mexican flair. The Union Sq one is contemporary decor and high ceilings. The drinks are so strong.
