Rosa Mexicano - TriBeCa

Our waiter was fine. The food good.
. But, the woman who showed us to our table got our lunch date off to a very poor start. There literally was no one in the restaurant for a one o’clock reservation, and she escorted us to the far table in the back, right next to the kitchen and service area. Not a way to make customers the least bit welcome. When I said I’d prefer not to be there, we were shown to another table. But she set a very unwelcoming tone. The restaurant’s acoustics are noisy, even with very few people in it. So if you want to have conversation, this isn’t the place. But it looks like it has an active bar scene in for the evening.
Rosa Mexicano in Tribeca is an intimate space with solicitous service and a nice selection of dishes. Their guacamole makes this a destination restaurant. The main dishes were great. My only quibble is that with dessert, they only served regular coffee and I would have liked to have a cappuccino or tea, neither of which was available.
Upstairs bar is VERY loud. There is a room at the back of the restaurant, upstairs, that shields the noise from the bar - so request seating there when reserving on open table if you don't want to have to yell at your dining partner to be heard. Manager was very understanding since we did not know about the seating in the back and bought us a round of drinks. Good move to get this customer to come back.
When we arrived we asked for a booth and the hostess (not very friendly) said they were all taken and were for 3 or more guests. When we left 1hr and 15 min later, the place was not very busy, there were parties of 2 in majority of the booths. I wonder if all those people has reservations like I did.
The waiter was ok, but you can tell he didn’t want to be there and was unhappy.
Pleasant place for a simple dinner. Good value, consistent service and quality.
always good food and very reasonably priced.
great ambience - this Rosa Mexicano is smaller than some of the other locations, which is nice.
There were a lot of gluten free options on the menu and the waitress knew that gluten free food had to be prepared separately. I feel confident that anyone that has celiac disease or is gluten sensitive can eat here safely.
The food was well prepared and flavorful. The drinks were good, too. The service was prompt, helpful and pleasant.
The only slight negative here is the decor. From the outside, the restaurant looks like a small hole in the wall. Once you get inside, it is much larger than you would imagine from the outside. It goes way back including a room with a skylight in the rear. It looks like a lot of work went into the look of the restaurant, especially the lighting, mirrors and knick knacks. Maybe there was a restaurant here previously and they just took over the space without making many changes. Maybe this is supposed to represent Mexican decor? It really doesn't work for me. I felt like I was transported back into the 1950's. Admittedly, this is a person judgement, some other people might like the look of this place. So, I recommend you go for the excellent food, drinks and service.
Very good food and atmosphere was great. The whole experience was good. Waiter was very attentive to us.
Excellent service. Great ambience. Very good food. I would visit again.
The quietest Of the Rosa Mexicanos, very comfortable booths. Drinks and churros were great, the food was mediocre.
The food & drinks are great. The service was particularly good.
Service as well as food was wonderful
Chaos, arrived at 6:30 for our reservation, waited 25 minutes to be seated. When we considered going elsewhere we noted that the restaurant was still taking reservations at 7 pm while they were unable to seat 2 people .Table was next to an open door to the kitchen, several meals we were placed next to us and served to others. Napkns arrived 1 hour after our reservation when we requested them. Food and drinks were good, but ambiance and service well below price level.
The check-in staff/hostesses were a bit disorganized. I arrived early and wound up not being sat until 20 minutes after my reservation but they never updated me on what was going on. They were slammed due to Cinco De Mayo, so I understand there was to be some chaos but they weren't being communicative though I was standing there waiting right by the hostess stand. The food was good and the service was okay. They ran out of water glasses and never brought the tortillas for my fajitas.
Food was decent but I don't think our margaritas had any alcohol in them - which was especially disappointing given our $70 pitcher was approx 60% ice. We also had to wait almost an hour despite having reservations (which I wouldn't have minded too much given how busy it was, if they gave our table complimentary guac/drinks/something to show that they were sorry). Have been wanting to find a good Mexican spot in my neighborhood, but don't think I'll be back any time soon.
Our server was wonderful. The margaritas were as well. The food was ok, seviche was nothing great. Ambiance feels more like a French bistro that they tried to make Mexican feeling
The food and drink selection was exceptional and the service was impeccable! great night for the family!!
You get a warm welcome upon arrival. Which continues throughout your service. Great drink and food! Very attentive staff!
Not what it used to be and ended up being very expensive
AMAZING!! 5 STARS!! Will definitely be back
Nice place - knowledge friendly staff. Good and drinks were good.
This was our first time at Rosa Mexicano and we enjoyed it very much. Everyone was so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a good experience. Food and drinks were spot on!
I’m definitely going back. That location has been a hangout of mine for the past 5 years. Great specialty location in the Rosa Mexicano brand!
Food was awful as was the service.
First I was celebrating my anniversary. We were seat quickly. Unfortunately the server came like 10 minutes later since we got a table. Drinks delayed another 10 minutes not even water was at table and server never ask us if we want more alcoholic beverages. We just had one so sad that he wouldn’t wanted sell more drinks. We order several appetizers and table was small and everything came at the same time I was expensive to have a single appetizer at a time. Then we had the main course that I can’t complaint Food was awesome. But unfortunately the service that worse I have ever had in my life.
Service disorganized down to the hostess.
Food portions are small but fresh.
Price for 2 people 100+....expensive for what you get.
food and service was great. When we discovered a leak coming from the ceiling they offered to move our table and also comped a round drinks for the entire table.
Hostess not very welcoming or cordial, but our waiter was fantastic and very attentive. Delicious food and drinks, pricey for what it is though.
Service was outstanding. Margarita was disappointingly watery. Food oddly lukewarm.
The ambience and the food are really good. I went there for both lunch and dinner and love that place.
It is a beautiful place, the staff is amazing, the drinks are delicious - the food was okay.
Everything was good. Except the food. It’s was a bit cold. Guacamole taste ok.
Usually the Tribeca location has decent food. At least the guacamole. This time it felt like someone in the kitchen had an accident with a bag of salt and added massive quantities to everything. Made for a bad dinner with an out of town guest. Then there is the not calling the margarita by its name on the regular drinks part of the menu so the server points you to one’s that are $2.50 more and you don’t know any better.
One of the best margaritas I’ve had in a long time. Not only did our bartender/waiter make fabulous drinks, he made awesome menu suggestions, all while running the very cool downstairs area by himself. Great evening!
Great place to grab drinks and some snacks after work. Service was prompt and polite. The food was pretty good, and the drinks were very good. Would definitely go back!
Guacamole was very good —Other food was ok. Service was friendly but super slow.
The name of Rosa Mexicano should be removed from the restaurant. Beer was warm, margaritas were small and without much alcohol, guacamole was not made at the table and was bland. Shrimp dish was small, enchiladas mole had not chicken and tortillas were dried out. Our guest had skirt steak and she said was good, but not sure if she was just not complaining since it was her birthday dinner. Hostess were unfriendly, server was not attentive and delivered bill without asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. It was our first time to Tribeca Rosa, frequent guests of Lincoln Center location. Will definitely not return to this location.
Took 20 minutes for a server to take drink order, served a steak and was told there were no steak knives, steak was ice cold
Had lunch here. Food was fantastic. Generous portions and the best salsa ever. Everything was delicious. Wait staff was very attentive until it was time to pay, took awhile to return. Great spot. Will return again.
A lot smaller and significantly quieter than the Union Square location but better in my opinion. Great cocktails, great apps, great service. Enchiladas for entree weren't great but overall a good experience
