Rosa Mexicano - Second Avenue

Even without its soon to come liquor license; this joint was jumping. The ambiance/service/food is better than other Rosa locations. Don't wait for the liquor license-go now!

I was not aware that the new 52nd street location has no liquor license. Unfortunate. Also the outdoor dining space could have better lighting

We were disappointed that we were unable to get frozen pomegranate margaritas, as the location does not yet have a liquor license. We were also unable to get a non-alcoholic version of Rosa’s classic drink, since they didn’t have the frozen machine. We were also disappointed that all of our food was plopped on the table at once, instead of presented as appetizers and main dishes as we had ordered.

I am looking forward to returning to Rosa Mexicano not only for the food
but also your remembered excellent margaritas!

I have been going to RM since the first one opened (in 1/2 the space) in the 80s. Josephina would greet you and if there was a line hand out little snacks. One of my very favorite places and was so disappointed when they closed. Have been waiting EAGERLY for the "new" one to open on 2nd ave. I thought the space was too small and still think it will be but the corner does afford them outside seating.

I was looking forward to a pomegranate margeurita but they have no liquor license yet. They also are not the same as they were originally IMHO.

We went for the first time last night. It was cold but there are no heaters outside as of yet. It did start to rain so we were glad we were actually indoors but next to a big open window. The Guacamole was ordered mild but was so spicy I could really not eat it. We told the waiter but he kind of muttered under his mask and we let it go. I have only had this happen once in my many (100?) visits over the years and they fixed it by adding more avocado.

We knew what we wanted to order. It was difficult to understand the waiter between his make, the music and his accent. He immediately was suggesting additions which we said no to. I dont think he liked that we didnt order anything very expensive.

My food came first and it was quite a while before my husbands. 20 mins? And then they brought something else which we said was wrong table. It was some huge meat thing and hubby is vegan so no...not us. Then the waiter came over and said we had said yes when he suggested (I think thats what he was saying, I could not understand him) and shook his head angrily.

The door is quite narrow and between people waiting to enter, delivery guys looking for pick ups, and in general the flow is hampered. With outside seating and food having to go out they almost need a back door on the side.

In any case, I was disappointed. Will give another chance. Hope they get it together.

There’s no reason why changing from 1st Ave to 2nd should have so many problems. First NO LIQUOR LICENSE. Right off the bat a consumer is disappointed. The guac recipe was off. Tasted no spice, lime or salt. Steak & chicken tasted ok in the quesadillas and beans but rice again, no flavor.

I moved from NY 2.5 years ago and was excited for the pomegranate margarita & experience. Next time I’ll treck over to Lincoln Square.

The food is excellent, the service is personal and thorough and the ambiance is great. I strongly recommend Rosa Mexicano to all of my friends.

Nee east side Rosa is just a poor step sister to the original.

Had to ask five different people over a 20 minute period for a waiter.
Staff has not yet been trained in this nee space.
Guacamole not worth it. They are missing ingredients and just nothing special. Tortilla soup was good.
Ordered fajita style dish and both arrived on the iron skillet but was completely cold. Not accompanied by rice or beans as is typical.
They must get their act together but I will not go back. Will find another Mexican restaurant in the area and am sure to have a better experience.

Disorganized and not quite ready.

After waiting 25-minutes for someone to bring us menus, the front print were available cocktails. An additional 15-minutes went by to have the waiter tell us the restaurant does not have a liquor license. It is my opinion that this should have been disclosed by the hostess when we were seated. I know this restaurant just opened but this is something that could have easily been explained to us before even sitting down.

I think they just just opened. Staff was super friendly but seemed very busy. Also still waiting on their liquor license.

Very happy to have this new location of Rosa Mexicano in the neighborhood! They are clearly still working out the kinks though - when they called the day of to confirm my reservation, they mentioned they are still waiting for their liquor license to come through, so no drinks or time really to replan other alternatives. My friend ordered a side of cauliflower and received a side of kale. But overall the design is lovely, the food received was good, and can’t go wrong with their fresh guacamole made tableside.

Glad Rosa Mexicano was able to reopen at this new location. Nice to see the new vegetarian menu items. Please bring the Chilli Relleno back to the menu.

Just opened new location it was terrible. The food took hours, it came cold. They did have us the dish for free it was so bad the evening. Eating out on second Avenue was not a nice experience

Food had no taste. I understand it’s new and they are still getting the hang of being open but the food was so bad and the service was very slow. Would not return until they get it together.

Best high end Mexican food in NYC

Service was really bad, the servers didn’t really pay attention to you or get your food in a timely manner.

Everything that ordered unfortunately came wrong. Not sure why. We told them no peppers in the queso, it came with peppers. We asked for mild guac, but they dumped jalapeños in there and my parents were suffering eating it. The nachos were unfortunately bland and didn’t come with much.

Quesadillas didn’t even come with sour cream, guac or salsa on the side. Only other sides on the plate was a huge serving of beans and rice. Would have been nice for the quesadillas to have shredded lettuce or other stuff in it.

My dads tacos he said were ok, not amazing but not horrible.

We barely touched our food.

We then smelled butane gas in the air, which was a little concerning. Told the server and he didn’t seem to care.

I rarely ever post reviews, but it just wasn’t what we expected or hoped for. Hopefully they improve since they just opened. But for now, save your money and time.

Mostly pretty good, would recommend if you live nearby. Service was a bit slow considering it was nearly empty (it was down pouring so understandable). The guac was definitely the low point which was unexpected. It wasn’t awful, just very bland. The other food was pretty good, nothing amazing, but good.

Fish tacos were inedible. Fish was rare and tacos were so spicy I could not eat them. Guacamole had huge pieces of onion in it and hard pieces of avocado. We love Rosa Mexicano…hoping this is just first week jitters. Chips and salsa were delicious.

Disappointed to not find out about no liquor license before booking
