Rosa Mexicano - San Francisco
Book your next event with us
I made reservations through open table a week before and when we got there they wanted to seat us in the bar area not the main dining area and when I asked why are they seating us at the bar they said they are booked and don’t have space in the main dining room. Of course with complaining they moved us to the main dining area but they made it look like they were doing us a favor. I would not recommend this place for large groups since apparently they don’t know how to keep a reservation. There were 7 people in our group and I kind of felt embarrassed in front of my coworkers since I had to be aggressive to be able to get a table in the main dining room which I made the reservation for a week in advance
Food was tasty but portions were on the small side (in my opinion). Nice table side guacamole preparation and presentation. Margarita was very good but expensive. Restaurant was a bit of a ghost town and some menu options were not available. Perhaps it was the area of town that wasn’t that popular on a Sunday evening. Was hoping for something a bit more lively. Not meant to be!
Enjoyed the lunch and look forward to returning for the things that haven't been tried.
Great selection and good service
Went with my husband and two little ones (6 yrs; 1.5 yrs). We ordered the table-side guacamole which was pretty good. It could have used a touch more salt, but the avocados and tomatoes were fresh and ripe.
My 6-yr old ordered her food and wanted shrimp tacos. The server didn’t even make a comment or clarify the cost for the shrimp. Ended up paying $14 instead of $9.50 for my daughter’s meal.
My husband ordered the braised short ribs. It looked so good when it came to the table, but it was extremely over cooked - it was hard to chew and had more cartilage and fat than meat. What a disappointment for $34.
1. The hostess was rude upon checking in as we had a couple of extra people in attendance compare to the reservation. I understand the need to organize and plan ahead, but with a group it can be tricky so there is no need to have the hostess be rude and point out to customers how challenging it is to accommodate changes. Customers should not feel bad for bringing in more business upon arrival.
2. The food was mediocre. My husband and I have dined at this restaurant often throughout numerous years so decided to bring people from out of town to try it. We both felt that the quality and presentation has certainly declined and some of our guests were NOT positively impressed. The guacamole is the only food item that continues to be consistently good, but you cannot have a restaurant based on good guacamole.
3. What’s up the plastic cheap looking menus that barely open? For a restaurant in the middle of the financial district and with so much competition, it is not a good way to go.
Great place to have a first date! The ambience and the service is amazing! I had the Hongos vegetarian tacos! They were very very delicious! I was particularly fond of the freshly made guac! Amazing!!!
We had a party of 11 and some people received their food and others had to wait. By the time the others received their food our food was cold. Enchiladas and other dishes did not come with sides so the price was rather high considering you only received an entree.
I made a note on my reservation of a birthday, but it was not acknowledged.
This was my second lunch, there, in the past six months. Unfortunately, while the staff are very good and service is, as well, I have to reiterate (same, as my last lunch) that the food was only lukewarm, when it was brought to our table. I don't expect it to be piping hot, necessarily, but lukewarm just doesn't cut it, not at the prices charged.
Either there are not enough wait staff, during lunch hours, or the food sits on the service counter, too long, before being picked up, for delivery to tables.
This particular Rosa has gone down in quality as of late. The portions are getting smaller, prices are getting higher, and the service outside is increasingly bad. I hope they pull it together soon because we love their outside space and guac!
Great restaurant. Service was perfect, food delicious and ambience nice whether for business or a date
The service today was slow. We sat outside for lunch and the service was super slow. We had to ask for water a few times, extra chips and salsa (never came) and no one checked in on us. The experience was complete opposite from when I sit inside. They are super quick, to turn over tables at lunch.
Food was good as always. Guac and tacos for lunch... you can't go wrong.
This place is awesome. The food is delicious and the people who work there are so nice and professional. I go to the one on 30 Mission Street practically every month. I took my family there on Wednesday and they loved the food and enjoyed the place.
Too Americanized...the Manager did take the dead Caesar Salad of my bill but I’ll never be back except for cocktails. The drink was good but everything else....womp womp!!!! Over priced for bad microwaved food.
Yes for anytime other than business lunch but business lunch is way too busy here. Food took forever and service was very delayed.
Service was amazing the food was delicious the ambience was perfect
We came at 11:40. Got a nice table by the window at the back which was nice. We then ordered a few appetizers and our entrees. The restaurant got full and we noticed 30 minutes has gone by and no food. Then the waitress came, yet - that was not our food, but our neighbours who came after us. We asked the waitress about our food and she said "it's coming"... another 25 minutes passed. The manager came and told us there was a mistake - food is coming! and that we won't pay for the entrees (yayyy!)... another 15 minutes. Food came dry. We also received a complimentary dessert (and I know you should not complaint about free food) - but the chorros were all burned out and charred.
We still love Rosa Mexicano, but please, make your staff be more aware!
Last two times, same experience. Service is beyond slow. Very difficult to reach anyone and when you do, you may or may not get what you ordered. Took 25 mins for a couple of drinks. The happy hour menu used to be good, now it’s very limited and not great food quality. It should not be a surprise to management that the outside tables get busy during warm weather and need basic levels of service.
Fish tacos were greasy and lukewarm. Took way too long to place order. Took way too long to get check. Not nearly enough waitstaff for Friday noon service. I may grab a marg at the bar, but no plans to eat there again. #chainrestaurantproblems
Felt like a fast food restaurant! Main course arrived when half way through starters!! Asked for more time to finish starter....they didn’t like that!
Food returned cold.....$100 in 50 minutes, not good! Would not be going back!
Rosa Mexicano always has delicious food and great service. Great for dates, friends, or business/team lunches. They can handle larger groups as well.
This place has delicious food, desserts. I love the music they play. The people who work at this Rosa Mexicano are very friendly and professional. I come to this place no less than 5 times a year. That's how great this restaurant is.
The guacamole is great and the spicy salsa is awesome. The fish tacos were good but compared to other places the pieces of fish in the tacos were small. The service was fantastic and our server informed me they would be happy to substitute grilled fish instead of batter fried one in the tacos.
Great food! Great presentation! Great drinks! Friendly staff. Guacamole was medium spicy! So if you like mild, don't get it or ask if they can tone it down. The only real criticism is that the sound level is LOUD! The tables are large, which has its advantages, but it can be hard to hear the other members of your party. They need to put baffling in the ceiling to tone it down.
Our server was very sweet and attentive. The food, as always, was phenomenal. Love the guacamole, love the enchiladas and love the ambiance. Have been many times, won't be stopping any time soon. Thanks RM~
Meal portions were not very big : service could have been better
Food is great, service is just soooo slow. Took forever to get drinks and forever to get food.
I don't think they were prepared for such a big table at lunch. Everything took forever. BUT they were very sorry and brought us free dessert and guacamole. So they kind of made up for it--even though we were all rushing to get back to work. Food was delicious and the waitstaff very nice.
As a family we visited Rosa Mexicano in New York earlier this year. When we knew we were coming to San Francisco we made sure we booked a table and it didn’t disappoint!! Best commercial Guacamole that is made in front you at your table
It was great for my team and I to meet and celebrate there. Great service.
Overall this was an okay night out. The world's most expensive guacamole (but tasty), other food a bit bland and pricey for what it was but okay. Environment was nice but service a bit disinterested.
Sat and talked w ole friend hadn’t seen in 20+years and enjoyed fish tacos, guacamole & steak quesadilla.
The server wasn’t good. He took forever just to come to our table to welcome us and take our drink orders. When he finally brought the drinks, he tried to squeeze by my daughter and spilled 2 drinks all over her back and stained her new white sweater all pink from the Shirley temple. The manager was kind enough to give me back the cash to buy her a new sweater, but when the bill arrived, nothing was comped for the huge inconvenience of having my teenager soaked with sticky soda and to have to go back to the store to buy her darn sweater. We were leaving from our vacation to go back home the next morning. I cannot believe they didn’t comp at least her freaking meal. The food was good the place is beautiful but the server was crap.
It was a friend’s birthday. Server brought the cake that we ordered with a nice candle and made it special for her. Also they understood our vegetarian and dietary constraints and served great food. The fresh made guacamole in front of us was awesome!!
It has been our second time at Rosa Mexicano in San Francisco (after having been to other Rosas in the US). It was again excellent, first and foremost the Guacamole, then the Nachos con queso, the Mole Poblano. The Margaritas were perfect, and our waitress, Gabby, was wonderful.
I really appreciated Rosa Mexicano’s quick service. They were also very polite and welcome. The food was delicious-I would recommend the enchiladas Suizas. Defined a place you could go with a big group of friends or just for a date night.
This place is awesome. The food the drinks the waiters. Everything about this place is awesome
Great meal. More upscale than casual. Delicious food! Guacamole amazing. Corn to die for! Enchiladas tasty. Highly recommend the trio platter. Empanadas very good and with the corn a great light meal. Overall. Home run!
The service was really slow. It took forever to order the food and a long time for it to come out. Had only ordered one entree. Not a good idea for lunch, especially if you want to do it in an hour.
Would be great if waiters came back to take additional drinks orders more often. Thanks!
