About Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor
In 1984, Rosa Mexicano set a new standard for Mexican cuisine when it first opened on the upper east side of New York City. Playing a leading role in defining what was then a "new" cuisine to American diners, Rosa Mexicano delivers authentic Mexican cooking in an accessible, stylishly festive atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano's menu features a range of award-winning signature dishes, including our Guacamole en Molcajete, in a traditional lava rock mortar. Described by Time Out New York as "green ecstasy in a stone bowl," it is prepared table side and served with house made chips, warm corn tortillas and condiment salsas. Rosa Mexicano is also known for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, as well as the stylish and festive ambiance that includes an illuminated water wall.

Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor Ratings and Reviews
The food was overpriced. If I wanted to pay $170 for four people I would have enjoyed sending a bit more i.e. $230 and dined at some other fine-er restaurant. The service was weak at best. I felt like I was at a place where servers don't really care for my dining experience. Never going back to Rosa Mexicano. I would have spent about the same at Oyamel and actually had good Mexican food.
Always a treat! I couldn’t ask for anything more. I love everything about this restaurant. We were seated immediately, chips and salsa came out almost immediately after we were seated. Our waitress followed shortly after. She was attentive, but not annoying and the food was amazing as usual. It’s a little bit on the pricier side, but I don’t mind because everything is top notch!
The food was very good. Service was a little slow, but he had a big table next to us to attend to. The margaritas weren’t the best I’ve ever had compared to other places. Their menu is a little more restricted than other Mexican restaurants. But I would however go back. The only real complaint I have is that open table talks about a 15 minute grace period. I called the restaurant before 8pm (reservation was at 7:45) to tell them I got a little lost and that I was walking towards them. The host told me they would have to put me back on the list. Got there, and the table wasn’t even close to ready. The party before us hadn’t even left yet. So why was there a rush to cancel my reservation? I checked my phone list and I indeed called before 8. Opentable even emailed me saying that the restaurant marked me as a no show no call. They didn’t even have that many people waiting when I got there, only like one or two families. I understand you don’t want to lose money and you want everyone to have a good dining experience. But, not even 10 minutes out of the 15 minute grace period had gone by and they had already marked me as a no show no call.
I cannot recommend this establishment for anything. Great disappointment, as we admire Rosa Mexicano in Penn Quarter.
Our prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner was awful. Turkey had dried under heat lamps, side dishes were served tepid and lacked flavor, and the tableside guacamole preparation ritual looked tacky and downright unhealthy. Our waitress was exhausted from short staffing and too many diners.
What were we thinking, motoring out here to National Harbor from Capitol Hill?
Fantastic fresh guacamole served tableside will get me back to this restaurant. The carnitas also were great. I really liked the pineapple that came with it—a bit of the flavor of tacos al pastor. Service was decent but I was seated next to where they were bussing all of the tables and it was a bit noisy. It definitely pays to make a reservation too as this was a busy place.
First of all or seating could not been better with our table buy the window corner that gave us an excellent view of the harbor. But most off all the service from arriving, seating, table service from our very friendly guacamole preparer to our courteous waiter made our anniversary dinner wonderful.
My husband and I have enjoyed Rosa Mexicano several times over the last few years. This weekend we wanted to treat our son, daughter-in-law and teenage granddaughter and told them wonderful things about this restaurant. We had always enjoyed excellent food and excellent service. Not this time! The food was at best mediocre. My husband order the same dish he has enjoyed many times before – Tres Enchiladas--and it was not what it had been…it was skimpy and just “thrown together.” None of the dishes we ordered measured up to what we were used to. Service? The waiter did not bring the drink one person had ordered at all and had to be reminded. He never inquired if anyone wanted a second drink during our time there. While we were all still eating our entrees he dropped the check on the table without an explanation. When this was pointed out he simply said he wanted us to have it in case we wanted to split the bill. Not a rational response at all. He then brought a single small complimentary serving of ice cream for the table to share…and plunked it down on the table while we were still eating our main courses. He never did inquire if anyone wanted to order dessert or coffee after dinner. This is not an inexpensive restaurant and we most certainly did not get the quality of food or service to match the bill.
