About Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor
In 1984, Rosa Mexicano set a new standard for Mexican cuisine when it first opened on the upper east side of New York City. Playing a leading role in defining what was then a "new" cuisine to American diners, Rosa Mexicano delivers authentic Mexican cooking in an accessible, stylishly festive atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano's menu features a range of award-winning signature dishes, including our Guacamole en Molcajete, in a traditional lava rock mortar. Described by Time Out New York as "green ecstasy in a stone bowl," it is prepared table side and served with house made chips, warm corn tortillas and condiment salsas. Rosa Mexicano is also known for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, as well as the stylish and festive ambiance that includes an illuminated water wall.

Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor Ratings and Reviews
First of all or seating could not been better with our table buy the window corner that gave us an excellent view of the harbor. But most off all the service from arriving, seating, table service from our very friendly guacamole preparer to our courteous waiter made our anniversary dinner wonderful.
My husband and I have enjoyed Rosa Mexicano several times over the last few years. This weekend we wanted to treat our son, daughter-in-law and teenage granddaughter and told them wonderful things about this restaurant. We had always enjoyed excellent food and excellent service. Not this time! The food was at best mediocre. My husband order the same dish he has enjoyed many times before – Tres Enchiladas--and it was not what it had been…it was skimpy and just “thrown together.” None of the dishes we ordered measured up to what we were used to. Service? The waiter did not bring the drink one person had ordered at all and had to be reminded. He never inquired if anyone wanted a second drink during our time there. While we were all still eating our entrees he dropped the check on the table without an explanation. When this was pointed out he simply said he wanted us to have it in case we wanted to split the bill. Not a rational response at all. He then brought a single small complimentary serving of ice cream for the table to share…and plunked it down on the table while we were still eating our main courses. He never did inquire if anyone wanted to order dessert or coffee after dinner. This is not an inexpensive restaurant and we most certainly did not get the quality of food or service to match the bill.
I truly enjoyed the accommodation of my request; however, the appetizer and drink portions are to small. A pitcher is just a small mule and will barley make 2 drinks, when it should have made three. The appetizer portion was small as well but the food flavor was great!!
I had been here before in 2012. I recall it being better on that visit. My chicken dish was overwhelmed with cheese. The table-side guacamole was fair. The Sangria was good. I was underwhelmed by the chips and salsa. It was extremely loud, but not the fault of the restaurant. It was a special occasion and I noted that on my reservation. We got a table quickly by having a reservation but seemingly no attention paid to the request to sit by a window. Overall just Ok. I would not rush back.
Our server was super-friendly and made us feel welcome right from the start. She wisely asked if I had tasted mole before, as it has a distinct taste (I had, and thought Rosa Mexicano's version was excellent with just the right amount of spice/flavor for me). My dinner companions also liked their entrees (carnitas and another dish called Mezquitos?, or something like that. We had the tableside guacamole, which was tasty, but overpriced. All in all, it was a positive evening, and I would recommend it.
Food was not flavored good, blah. Ordered table side guacamole and it was enough to feed one but that is it. Uncle Julio's has the largest portion by far. Won't ever recommend this place to anyone. It was very warm in there as well and the bathroom was filthy!!!!
My family had a wonderful time at Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor. The entire staff was very professional, attentive and well-versed on the menu items. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated by the window as requested. The food is great, especially the guacamole made right at the table. Although I thought the food was a little pricey, it was well worth it to have such a pleasant dining experience. Thank you.
We had a great time at Rosa Mexicano's despite the staff being over worked and not being very attentive. The food was great and the drinks were okay. I've been there before and experienced way better service, maybe it was just too busy for them. We will still come back in the future.
The food was good, for the most part. One person in our group did not like their meal but we were able to swap it out for something else. Also, we found it hard to find options other than fish and chicken, specifically for dishes like the flautas and empanadas. This was disappointing as many other venues with this type of cuisine will have more than one meat option for flautas and empanadas. The service was also pretty slow. The waiter checking in on us was very seldom and it made it hard to make adjustments, add things on, and pay for our meal. I've had a much better experience at other Rosa Mexicana locations.
We had horrible service after sitting for 15 minutes before anyone talked to us we still were not served chips and salsa. The waiter came to the table 3x’s with nothing in his hands. Finally when our waiter brought our food out before our appetizers or drinks that was the last straw. We will never go back. For some reason the waiter couldn’t comprehend why we wanted to talk to the manager. Seriously, if you have ever served you would understand why your customers wouldn’t be happy... customer service is a lost art.
We took my boyfriend's mother here while she was visiting from England. The food was delicious! We ordered the guacamole medium spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all so if you like spice, I'd suggest to ask for extra. The entree portions were huge so we split two between the three of us, which was perfect. We didn't get a chance to see the desserts, but I'll definitely come back again!
The only thing we noticed that was slightly off was our waiter. He sort of had a slightly surly way about him. The rest of the staff were great though!
Tried this restaurant for the first time while visiting the National Harbor for a night with my boyfriend. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and fresh, and the ambience was just right. Vegetarian options are clearly marked which is a plus for me, and my boyfriend was very pleased with his non-vegetarian enchiladas. And the freshly-made tableside guacamole? I could have eaten a gallon of it. So good. Would definitely recommend and try again.
